I keep yellow bellied sliders and love giving them minnows! Right now I have about a dozen minnows in my tank and am thinking about grabbing my 10 gallon tank from my husband's grandma's house and keeping some of the minnows as pets. They're actually kind of cute.

Minnows are fine on normal tropical fish flakes like people get for goldfish. I feed that to mine and they're over a year and a half old.

Hello! I know this is one of your older videos, but we just recentlg bought our eastern painted turtle, and began watching your videos for advice! We have the tank all set up, but we had put some minnows in with our hatchling and we're told to take them out immediately because of the ammonia level. How have your turtles done with minnows? Also, we are finding that we're having a hard time feeding our little one the hatchling pellets. He doesn't seem to want then at all! After 3 days of not eating at all, we finally got him to eat some lettuce. He has been enjoying red leaf lettuce for the last 2 days and we've fed him a couple of very small crickets... any advice?

I just recently did the same thing. My musk turtle (same size as yours) ate all 6 in 2 days. Im curious if they could potentially over eat. What do you think? Im a fairly new turtle owner

Christian Witte turtle will eat until they hurt their stomach, but most of the time, they know when they are full, so they’ll stop chasing the fish when they know that they don’t need the food, but if it’s pellets, and the pellets don’t exactly swim away, they will definitely overeat.

Bro i have the same yellow sliders, 2 of them and their tank gets dirty in 2 days maximum sometimes within hours of water change. Can u suggest what can i do to keep the water cleaner for a long time. I have the best reptile filter which i keep cleaning every 2 days

@@Ubraxos thanks for replying Mark.... My tank is approx 18 gallons but i have filled water half way through caz of the ramp ive build for turtle to bask. I have aquasyncro corner triangle filter. Also my decors, filters, ramp which is touching the water and the heater all form a white fungus on it even though i scrub them in every water change i do 😭

Aslam Shaikh I would suggest getting a larger tank! And a better filter. Turtles are very messy animals, and they like the biggest amount of space they can. I would upgrade to a 40 gallon breeder tank (that can hold water) and fill it up to the top, and do an out of tank basking area for them. That filter isn’t the best filter, and having half of a 20 gallon isn’t a lot of space to swim. Your tank def gets dirty because you have a couple turtles in too small of a tank, with a small filter :)

I have removed all decors and gravel stones for minimum fungus growing area and i have jus kept heater n filter in the tank which i scrub with salt every water change however the fungus keeps growing back within 1-2 days

Aslam Shaikh you need to do a 100 percent water change and treat your water with Seachem pristine, AND another type of fungus cure, (it can be any brand) (you need both) and you’ll need to make your water is completely dechlorinated :) it’s not too bad for turtles, so don’t worry that much, both chemicals would probably be like 15 dollars in all :)

I know you probably don't/have already heard this, but please do not use those feeder minnows or feeder goldfish from big pet stores. I know they're more expensive but mollys/platys and guppies are extremely healthier, and you have less of a risk, recently I had two turtles, one I had for about 3 years, and one for a year, I fed them the minnows just fine many times, then I guess there was something wrong with a dozen or so I had purchased, both turtles passed after eating just a few fish, one left half eaten fish around which was also odd, just be careful, I'd hate to see anything happen to your turtle.

Turtle Loving Guy that’s a common misconception, they’re just more bone than meat, so people assume they’re filled with parasites, most parasites cannot transfer from fish to reptile. Minnows are just harder to digest them meatier fish. Unless you overfeed (handfeed like 10 minnows) there shouldn’t be anything wrong.

You should do a summer setup in your backyard for Sheldon with the blue plastic kid pool. Maybe he could go outside on sunny days. Also could you make a above tank basking area with plexiglass??? Been wanting to make one but I’ve never used plexiglass before. I have a eggcrate one now like yours, used your tutorial to make it.
