Omg!!!!! Must spend time in Bali!!! The jewelry making you’ll see and learn!!! Techniques handed down for generation after generation! So sad… what I have heard is the young kids of today don’t want to learn the silver work from their elders ( as they have for century’s) because they are distracted now by technology and other ways to make money than the jewelry. Silver making in this area will eventually be forgotten. So sad… these pieces that come from there are intense art pieces. So you need to study with some silversmiths there!! Cold cloudy weather is a depressant! Lack of vitamin D. You will be soooooo happy!!! Omg the Beaty that is there in every little thing. Bali! You’re a determined person. Teaching at a young age without having done this very long. Amazing. There is a different type which deserves praise as well. Those of us who make one of a kind art pieces. Could never repeat or out source. I may need your advice. I have ADD. could never be as organized as you. Ugh😂❤

Yes! I'm very excited to go see when I go to Bali! Can't wait! The centuries of craftsmanship is inspiring! But like I always say, each to their own in terms of style.

At last, hitting this very relevant topic, thank Megan! Stocking shops, whether wholesale or consignment, is doable with simple, low production cost jewelry but completely untenable for handmade fine or luxury lines. Most retailers at LEAST double the artists "wholesale" price, which for nicer or luxury pieces is the artist simply giving away any profit if they want the piece to sell at all; selling a piece for $4000 instead of $2000 is a sure way to have your work just sit. I believe that enough fine/luxury hand-made art customers are savvy enough these days to have an idea when somebody is getting jacked: the customer AND the artist. Answer: If you are a fine/luxury jewelry maker, you're on your own: make a website and put on your salesperson jacket! 🌺🌺🌺 Note: In my 14 years, I've found ONE boutique owner that insisted on buying my work outright and didn't balk at a real price (to pay ME), and only ONE shop that as a rule believed so much in the work of handmade artists that they only took one-third of the artists' set retail price - AND, they actually put some work into selling. Those integral retailers are few and far between, and to be treasured!

Hello hello, yes, I did this video on your request. ;) And yes I do agree with you. That is why I decided to simplify my designs to make this more doable as I knew I wanted to also sell in shops. But agree that if you sell complex time-consuming pieces, you need to select your shops well and might find it hard to get loads who are interested and willing to pay what it's worth. And that's why I also teach the marketing methods to do it yourself as this might be the preferred option for some. Wishing you a wonderful festive season ;)

Hi Megan, will you be covering how to find manufacturers and approach retailers in your course?

Hi Nina, yes! I go over all the info for working with shops and I also have an hour length video with my manufacturer and share all her details with the students so they can work with her too if they like. I did a LOT of trial and error with manufacturers and she is fantastic and I trust her so much! In the video I go through all the questions I had, and others might have, before working with her. Feel free to send me a DM on IG @megancollins.co if you have any other questions. For some reason replies to replies get a bit lost on YT and I sometimes miss them.

I started making jewelry last year and about to give up. There is so much I don’t understand how price your jewelry, how to market, where to sell that I am about to keep it as my hobby. The world is so technologically advanced already and I am so behind all that 😢

I hear you Beata!! I used to feel like that too, believe me!! In fact that is one of the reasons why I made my course. I cover literally everything step by step so that you don't feel so alone confused and overwhelmed by everything!! Don't give up yet! Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram (I often miss replies to replies on YT as I don't get notifications for those). Let's chat before you throw in the towel. 😉
