Over the years, my daughters' stockings had become more expensive, so we sat down to see how to save money without disappointing them. We also use lots of snacks and goodies as a base and try to accessorize other gifts. My husband and I wrapped each item in a note we had written...some were memories and praise for accomplishments. One usually had the year along with their heights and weights or a list of their best friends. The girls would save the notes in their stockings to be re-read the following year when stockings were being hung. Now that our grandsons are 5 and 6, they will receive notes this year for the first time.2020 seems a good year to renew an old tradition. Happy Holidays to your family from mine ❤

I've always loved getting a fun pair of socks in my stuffing or a new ornament! A friend of mine recently shared that every year her parents bought her and her siblings a new ornament. When they moved out of their parents home, they were gifted their collection of ornaments for their first tree. I thought this was so sweet and sentimental. #premieregang
@mbmama83274 жыл бұрын
This is what we are doing with our kids too. And for the ornament I typically buy one to reflect their interest that year.. so the tree sort of “grows up” with them

We had clementines in our stockings growing up. I think the tradition comes from the Great Depression when oranges were scarce and would be considered a real treat.

I remember that they were also considered a special stocking treat in the Little House on the Prairie books, so the tradition must be even older in the United States 😀

I absolutely love thinking back on my family’s Christmas traditions...including the stocking!! I remember having the same stocking every year, and when I was a teenager, my Mom asked if I wanted a new one. I said no because my original one means so much to me...even now at 43 years old.🥰 I always got a Lifesavers Christmas storybook every year, as well as a chocolate Santa Claus candy...along with some other little things. I love using consumables in my kids’ stockings! They love it, and I love that I don’t have to find a “home” for those items. Win-win! I just watched your video for 2021, instructing me to watch this one for your giveaway. It is thoughtful of you to do this. I want to send condolences for the loss of your grandma, and admire you for your faith and compassion. It is hard to experience a loss during the holidays. I lost a daughter several years ago right before Christmas. It is hard, but as the years pass, the memories and love are still there but the pain becomes more tolerable. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful new house to make wonderful new memories. Enjoy your holidays, have a Merry Christmas.

What a great idea to get us to watch your older video. These tips are great, too! #sneakygiveaway I unknowingly followed most your hacks! I did the thrifting last year, but not this year because I'm sick to death of how many small toy cars he has. 😆 This year, I have: - rainbow chocolate chip cookies - xmas chocolate kisses - PAW Patrol pups set broken up ( still looking for small fabric gift bags to reuse every year...) - two soft-cover books rolled a bit (I guess they'll poke out!) - little easy-up socks with puppies (3-pack broken up probably) - pack of Crayola crayons from our local Buy Nothing group I think that was it. I didn't know i did these things, but now that you've pointed it out, I'll be thrifting more next year and repeating these gems!

#SNEAKYGIVAWAY Watched this last year and left a comment about my memories of my dad's side of the whole family getting together for a big sleepover filled with skits and movies and Super/regular Nintendo wars, singing songs, playing board games before falling asleep for Christmas morning. It feels like times have changed so much now... I miss these get togethers so much! Used a lot of these tips for my almost three year old's stocking this year. We've always believed stockings are for extensions of the mains gifts under the tree or for smaller essentials (toothbrush, new pens for school, magnifying glass, USB stick, etc ) and kept it to a maximum of $30 per stocking. Always kept to a budget, and used tips from Jordan on Funcheaporfree's channel to plan out Christmas and holiday spending. Praying for you and your family Natalie... Your grandma seemed like such a sweet woman. May she sit next to God in Heaven in peace and send warm hugs and loving kisses to all of you on Christmas and everyday thereafter.

These are such great ideas! My kiddos are adults now and live in another state but I thought I'd share what we did. Basics were a variety of chocolate, apple, orange, mixed nuts in shells. Then depending on what they were into I'd get accessories to go with something bigger under the tree or something they already have. For my daughter I'd also include hair ties, barrettes, hand lotion, flavored lip balms and earrings or jewelry sets and makeup. For my son it would be the matchbox cars, beanie babies, gift cards or game boy accessories. When they were little Dollar Tree toys were always a hit. Enjoy your time off with your family. Merry Christmas! #sneakygiveaway
