I did all my apothecaries the other day. I did mullen, ivy leaf, thyme, basil, oregano, made a ton of elderberry, rose hips, and juniper. I have also been making a bunch of different soaps for winter. I am going to give some away for Christmas presents and keep a bunch of them to last us through the winter. I have made a bunch of shower steamers for the cold season ahead of us. I have more thyme, basil and organo stitting in honey in jars. I am thinking about making cough drops with them.

So nice to wake up here in the NE US and see your video waiting for a view. Our nasturtium have finally died down after several resurrections and our garden has been covered in a blanket of brown and gold leaves and I think readying itself for the oncoming snow. After the first really cold rain yesterday I’ll be tucking the garden paraphernalia in the shed and generally emptying and cleaning and storing this year’s pots to rest awaiting Spring. I do love the comfort of this time of year. Like crawling under a nice comfy blanket with a good book after a bone chilling hike….time to put away and get rid of that which gets little use and then rest and contemplate what is to come. Thanks for finding time in all you have to do and put these up. Enjoy your week!

I think the time change, etc. Yes, things here are still producing. My tomato plants, for example, and new flowers too. Yes! I noticed just the other day that, here in Colorado, some of the borage that went to seed in late summer has sprouted and bloomed. So odd. We also got a few lilac blossoms last month, which does happen occasionally if it doesn’t get cold before October. I loved seeing all of your pretty tinctures lined up. That is indeed a very safe and comforting feeling. Makes me want to go have a look at my own apothecary cupboard. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge! I always look forward to your videos!

Wow…..your house must smell divine!!! 😉. I’m not one of those women happy going shopping for handbags and shoes. Not anymore. Used to when I was younger. Now, I’m happy when I see my cupboards and freezer full. I put fruits and veggies in the freezer and dried in the dehydrator a selection of fruits and veggies, like apples, strawberries, raspberries, plums, quinces, tomatoes, courgettes, celery, beetroot. I’m happy to see my food in jars. The husband is the gardener boss and I’m the cook, I suppose. But now, taking more notes from your video, making la list for more herbs shopping to put in the garden for next year, to make your tinctures, as it sounds great idea. By the way, we love our new deodorant 😉👍.( as made it following your recipe) .I’ve been telling many people about it. Thank you Terri. I would love to have a friend like you. ❤️

Hi Terri. I was not able to comment for a couple of weeks, I must have annoyed KZbin. I really like your videos and you and the music at the beginning. I've found lots of beds of new nettles also and I've been collecting them and drying for winter and include them in my herbal tea. I think for winter we should drink rosemary, thyme and sage tea even though its bitter. I've collected lots of hawthorn and rosehips and blackberries. They're in the freezer and some are dried. Please let me know if you see a Triskole pendant like yours in Galway, they don't have them in Dublin. God bless

In my garden group people are commenting about things coming back into bloom for a second time that no one remembers happening before. I spent today mulching garden beds and baking chicken with rosemary. The smell in the house is very reassuring. It seems like smells can be very reassuring for us and I never focused on that before. We have been stocking up on herbs, firewood and things like canned pumpkin. Having a winter garden is also very reassuring. Hope you have a great week.

Here in the middle of the states the trees are typically bare by mid-November. This year we still have remnants of the beautiful autumn colors on about half of them, hard freeze last night so those will be down soon. Seeing all your tinctures is inspiring, you certainly have been wise to prepare. I agree...taking a private jet to a climate summit tells the truth of how serious they are.

Hello Terri ,everything about what you are doing resonates with me . Yes the weather here has been quite different .We live in Northern Ontario ,Canada and our first frost was over a moth later than usual. We now have the ground covered with snow - the fire in the wood stove keeps us cosy. I always feel the need to do my fall food storage - I am making sauerkraut with our cabbage and carrots- enough to get us through the winter when the spring greens begin again - potatoes are in the cellar - apples from our tree ,cored and sliced and frozen for winter desserts . I just cooked the last pumpkins - I froze the purée for winter soups and baking . Winter squash is in the cellar and we are still able to get kale for our morning smoothies- not sure how much longer -the rabbits have been visiting 🥰 We just put up a second greenhouse to extend our growing season - later harvest and earlier start of our seedlings - my husband made both but this one is designed so the snow slides off the roof without crushing it( looks like a little church 😊)our first one is wood construction also but we have to put the poly on in the spring and take it off in the fall . I have made tinctures and salves this year thanks to your inspiration . I was able to do a thyme tincture and a hawthorn tincture . I have made my calendula oil for salve and my dandelion oil for salve also . I have been making soap for years and still have a good supply. I have dried a lot of herbs for teas and the last of the seed collecting is done with the pumpkin seeds and shucking of the popcorn cobs. I always feel good about growing our own food and putting it up to have during the winter - there is great security in knowing one will keep warm if the power goes out and the pantry can sustain us during the dark months .

Very nice presentation as always! I do plan for winter when the leaves start to fall. I enjoyed learning about your remedies and would like to try a couple so will look into that. Along with my planning, I enjoy cooking new healthy recipes on days that are too snowy/cold and I stay home. The new recipes keep me motivated and interested and they can be stored also! The doggies are so cute and I like the way the dogs and cats ran into the house when you were going in to begin - LOL - I also thought your skirt was very pretty! My yard looks like a fall-colored blanket over the lawn because of the many leaves falling - very lovely!! Thankyou from Canada.....:)

Hi Joyce. Try to work out the cause of the anxiety and see how you can reduce it. Breathing can help too. I do 4 in, hold for 4, out for 4 and then hold for 4. This regulates the Vagus nerve and can help reduce anxiety. Good luck

Nice to see you preparing for the winter. It’s a bit odd in my neck of the woods this year too. We finally had a really good rain here in Northern California a couple of weeks ago. It was earlier than normal for rain to start, and I think the plants got an unusual boost which they craved so much since we are in a drought. Where I am we don’t get rain from May through September. Thanks to this nice drenching happening after the hottest days of summer, nothing has dried out. Many trees and plants look extra “perky” for November. Hopefully we’ll get consistent rain this year.

I have not cleaned out the garden yet nor have I watered it. However, I noticed one of the tomato plant is insisting on putting out a single tomato. We are preparing this year by purchasing a freezer so that we can get a side of cow, raise meat chickens and a hog. I am working on my herbal skills to create items that normally we purchased. Recently, instead of buying new Swifter liquid I simply popped open the bottle and created my own mixture.

Poor husband. Breathing, relaxation, yoga and Hawthorn will help with any palpitations - you can get it as tea as well from the healthshop. I've been preparing for Winter by getting my staples like legumes, as well as making sure to get my herbs and spices now while I can and I've been preparing my oils, herbal vinegars, and salves now so that its ready when I need it. I'm going to also put together a blend so that I can use it for steams for my lungs when needed. I've got herbs hanging to dry as well! I can't have alcohol where I'm at so I've just been doing the herbal vinegars since I can't afford the glycerine to make the alcohol free tinctures. But the vinegars are great because I can use it for food as well! I'm going to get some herbs next week that I can infuse in oil and make into a salve for my chest for my lungs when I get sick, like a replacement for Vicks Vaporub.

Very strange year this. I live in sweden and it has been a very much too warm summer and the autumn is here but it's too warm. I also sleep very bad right now due to to warm inside the house. Did you notice the skys when there were barely no airplanes? Last summer, first summer of the big C... The skys were as I remembered the when I was little. No clouds at all for so many weeks and the air was fresh and clear. I said to my husband to enjoy it while it lasts because we will never again see the blue sky like this again.

Thanks for this great little video. I learned a few things. I can't help but wonder what is happening, more like where the natural world will end up, with so many changes happening all around us. For the past two years (two years ago is when things became very apparent to me) I've been seeing plants in my garden getting that late fall flush, which doesn't seem quite normal to me. This fall I've noticed a few plants taking off with new growth, like a few borage plants growing anew in my garden as well as nettle and clover. Maybe I've just been blind to it all until recently but things seem to be really changing to some degree. I start gathering herbs in late May or early June, in general. Then by mid-summer I've cut and dried most of the plants I use all winter. I gather nettles, plantain, horehound, marjoram, thyme, dandelion (roots and all), burdock root (in early spring and fall), catnip, lemon balm, raspberry leaves, ground ivy, various mints, calendula blossoms, horse radish root, wormwood, St. Johns wort, yarrow, red clover blossoms, shave grass (Equisetum arvense), and mullein. There are other medicine plants that I've identified growing wild and in the forest around in this region, most trees are medicine, but I only use those if I feel a real need for their medicine. I've been making my own tinctures for years and I do use them. I just ran out of chaga and Turkey Tail (fungi) tinctures that I had been using for a couple of years. I haven't found any chaga or Turkey Tail this year, although I've been looking, to replenish those valuable medicines but I did come across a very nice polypore (bracket fungi) that was growing on a birch tree just outside my cabin door. So I've harvested that polypore, sliced it up into thin pieces, dried it all (apparently drying fungi in direct sunlight increases the vitamin D value of the medicine) and I'll be making decoctions (with dandelion and burdock root) as medicine this winter. I consider medicinal plants for regular daily use, although I know enough to not continue daily usage for more than a week or two with some plants as these are 'medicine' and strong to the point of over use causing toxicity. Like not using peppermint all the time because of the effects peppermint has on the heart. I believe that the compounds in medicinal plants should be consumed on a regular basis though just to give our bodies their healing and supportive compounds in our systems. Using plant medicine to stay healthy is my main tenet, since once illness sets in it is harder to treat. So I use herbal tea, some tinctures, root decoctions, on a regular basis, alternating medicines from week to week. Recently I've been using a lemon balm tincture and a wormwood tincture to help my liver and nervous system. Staying well is important to me and using herbal (natural) medicine(s) keeps me going on a positive track. I'm certainly grateful that I've been able to get to know and use so many plants as medicine. If I had hawthorne I'd be using that too. Thanks again for your great videos. Have a grand winter. Cheers!

Hi Kestrel Feather - things are unusual and when you spend time outdoors you notice it more. Great to hear all about your medicine chest - it sounds as if you have everything covered. I agree that staying well is the best track and that taking plant medicine keeps our bodies supported and healthy; not to mention we stay connected to the web of life.
