Some birds will try eating your fish and even raccoons and possums. Second... put some lily pads in half the pond. It gives them shade and all shades the water from getting too hot in the summer. And also pond fish like bluegills, crappie, bass are very dirty fish.. there constantly pooping and if u don't have strong enough filter to filter out the harsh chemicals from there poop they can kill themselves. And you will also be needing to clean/replace your filters a couple times of months. But bro u got a badass channel. Glad I just came across it! Earth is my plonet! Lol. Gotta love it

Crappie are also territorial fish but do well living in the same habitat as sunfish /bluegills. I'd recommend adding some more features for the fish to hide around such as a small stump or something if you introduce more fish into the pond. Awesome vid bro!!

Pond is looking good! I’d add some floating plants before summer hits or else you might experience some algae problems. I’ve got plenty of frog bit, water lettuce & salvinia if you’re in need (Just North of Downtown).

I'd say put some driftwood and floating topwater plants like Frogbit in there gives the fish more cover and helps with the water balance of tannins and nitrates.

Have you thought of stocking your pond with smaller native species like threadfin shad, fathead minnows, Texas/red/golden shiners? 50 gallons isn't a lot of water, especially with all of the rocks that displaces some of that water. I'd also recommend pond netting to prevent wildlife from eating your fish.
@71hernandez
@71hernandez 2 жыл бұрын
50 gallons might be a tad small for a territorial fish . You'll at the very least need to add another pot or big rock pile for a second fish to have a chance. Some sort of air stone will also help the quality of the water but an actual filter is what you ultimately need. Look up diy pond filters , they can be made on the cheap out of trash cans. Love your energy on the channel keep on grinding brother!

I did an update on the pond and only have one bluegill in there right now. I added plants and use the pond water to water my garden then do half water changes.

If the fish were caught in your area,u don't need a heater. They already acclimated to your outside temperarure.

I was just paranoid because the smaller body of water will probably cool faster. I didn’t want any risk of killing them butttttt we see how that turned out 😂
@stevensanchez2617
@stevensanchez2617 Жыл бұрын
When transferring them it might be easier to put them in a bucket and acclimate them by adding a lil of the new water in every few min....its more hands on but eliminate the chance of them going through the bag

You should probably clean out random leaves that fall in the pond. As they deteriorate they can be toxic to fish in a small pond. A few isn't a big deal, but you don't want a lot in there. I just take out any leaves I find in mine.

How do you keep the water so clear? I've got a 110g stock tank pond that I can't keep clear to save my life. Adding plants would probably help some but the water gets green so fast I've been debating just getting rid of it all together. (Houston area)

Gudgeon fish in UK rivers do really well in ponds. As do minnows. HOWEVER...you need high pond sides to stop the fish jumping as they naturally do, they easily jump out of shallow ponds with no gap between water surface and the land. dying

Hahahaha, yeah if I had a bigger pond I’d have to go full Nat Geo with the minnows. Frogs lay 1000s of eggs in my pod that turn into tadpoles and the bluegill eats all of them over a couple weeks. Hahaha
