A Tour around Stockport & the part I was associated with Reddish & Heaton Mersey for comparison with a film I made about it in1966.

Thanks for that. Pulled on the heart strings just a bit, but then Reddish was my home from 1947 until 1983. Looking at it now, I am glad I left.Like most places in Britain change I feel happen to quickly, and without a sympathetic or caring approach for its people or architecture.But again thank you for all your time and effort.

Greetings,and thank you.I enjoyed watchin your film.I was born in 1952,an lived in Heaton Norris,till I was 25,then moved to Birmingham.I'm comin up in May,with my camera to photograph the places I remember as a kid in the 50's.I do miss the place,and having watched Robert Collisters photo compilations,realise how much the place has changed,something I'm not happy about but,ti's true,the character of this super town,has been more or less wiped out ! Such a shame,not all change is for the best.Anyway,I'll see what I can see in May !

Construction of Asda and Sainsbury began in 1985 and they opened in '86. Merseyway (the shopping centre) began as Merseyway the road (completed in 1940), the river being built over to provide a route for the A560.

Simon Abbott it was 1984 and Sainsbury’s opened in summer of 1985.

Brilliant , saw a pic of Tiviot Dale station ,then got a book on it Portwood etc and that loverly church behind , since then got an affinity with Stockport , love the old Stockport

You mentioned Brinnington and Reddish as two deprived areas bordering the Vale. Don't make me laugh, Brinnie might be but that part of Reddish never was or is!
