The first thing I thought of was the need for sand flags for safety. Good video.

Good idea, apparently not mandatory at Stockton though.

Excellent video and learning curve-md don't worry about the know alls and tough guys you meet on your adventures and in the comments section - they have insecurity issues. Everyone is a novice at some stage and is learning all throughout life (as you well know). I had a Patrol years and years ago and used to hit the Kurnell sandhills, trying to get airborne, before they were mined into oblivion and I knew nothing, absolutely nothing, about tyre pressures - it was all luck I didn't get stuck. Go hit the rocky hills and it's a totally different ball game and everyone is as keen as mustard to pull our their recovery gear (or yours) because you got stuck - that's ok, 'cos it's all part of the fun. Breaking down due to poor maintenance, well, that's frowned upon in some circles, in others, it's a laugh. Glad to see you had fun.

NIce video mate. Is there any etiquette on the dunes? That is are there some diunes you only go up one way to avoid someone coming blind the other way? And did you do any under body sand/salt protection? Was it hard to get all the sand out after??
@OffTheBeatenPathAus10 ай бұрын
The overall direction of travel when we were there seemed to be counter clockwise so we went with that. There were a couple of big dunes that people were going up so logic told me not to go down them. Much like tracks anywhere, use common sense, keep an eye out for other drivers. I had bash plates already fitted, didn't do any particular salt protection as I wasn't driving in any salt water. Didn't seem to have any lasting sand after an underbody clean on the way out of stockton area. Highly recommend the dunes well worth it!

Great video and advice. I’m planning to visit for the first time in either our Ranger or Jeep GC. What portable air depressor did you use, and does it inflate also? Newbie here
@OffTheBeatenPathAus Жыл бұрын
Hey Jamie, for deflating I just use the ARB Digital Tyre inflator that connects to the compressor. It's not as quick as the valve lifters but means I don't need to carry anything else. For inflating I have the small single cylinder ARB Compressor mounted in the engine bay.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. I am also running a Pajero and am now confident to give it a run on the dunes. I noticed you have an interesting camera setup attached to the front of Pajero - what camera/gimbal combo are you using?
@OffTheBeatenPathAus Жыл бұрын
Thx Mate, yeah this was my first time on the dunes and I put a lot of confidence in my maxtrax and fellow humans. Stockton is pretty well populated most of the time. Basically on dunes go down to 14 PSI you'll be fine. Have a shovel just in case, maxtrax as well if you can. Main Camera I do most of the shooting with is a GO Pro Hero 8. I'ts in a weather proof case on a standard GO Pro suction mount. Works great on the windscreen, not so well on side panels. Also now have a claw mount been using on roof racks etc took some footage that way on my recent pinnibar video

So is stockton beach fully opened again? You can drive on dunes and beach?

@@minhgtr definitely. Heaps of people around as you saw. We even ran into a ranger patrolling and said g'day. The very northern section was closed. We entered via the Lavis Lane entrance.

Were you in high range or low range the entire time?
@OffTheBeatenPathAus9 ай бұрын
This was a couple of years ago now so not 100% sure. I think high range, but honestly low range is the go, especially for climbing dunes. With an auto though you'll get away with high range a lot of the time.

Just don't drive on the Dunes North of Lavis Lane and you will be sweet. The North end of Stockton Beach is called Anna Bay and it is spectacular. Enjoy respectfully. 😂

Wouldn't even try Stockton Beach unless I was running 15 psi or less. I see amateurs getting stuck every weekend. Sometimes I help, other times I just keep fishing. 😂😂😂 Laugh my head off. Usually Muppets from Sydney with all the gear and no idea. Buy a Toyota and you will be ok.

lol, yeah never having driven on dunes before this thought 19-20 was low..... thankfully a helpful local suggested 14 PSI. Such a big difference. Amazing place, keen to see how the 76 will go on dunes recently hit some smaller ones on the border track in it.
