Hey Trev, definitely. The remoteness of the site I think has helped with that. The people going there have some respect for history. Think about the logistics of getting something like that out there, pre 1900...... Well worth a look if you're in the area.

@OffTheBeatenPathAus6 күн бұрын
Thx mate. The ladder has been great. Just back from a trip where I slept in the tent on the DOT for 10 nights straight. The access was great, super stable and the RTT is very comfortable.
@bazza25406 күн бұрын
Hmm if the ladder is still an issue that you need to use a wobbly step ladder maybe the trailer isnt the one for you?? Like a sleep in one may be better, like a teardrop, pod or even a normal camp trailer without a canopy on top so the tent lower? Seems the dot is not well designed with the tyre and needing reinforcements on every weld. You have a sunk cost but if it doesn’t work for you? Worth thinking about. Personally id sell it and put a kitchen in the fourby and a locker, at least they will be with you and used every trip you make, not just 1 in 10 trips
@OffTheBeatenPathAus6 күн бұрын
Haven't seen a tear drop with a decent sized door to get in and out of, at least for a bloke my size. No issue climbing in and out of the DOT, keep in mind they weren't designed for a front access roof top tent, that's a mod I've done to my trailer. The drawbar is reasonably high so you need something to step up on. The DOT does have more storage than I need though so may consider something more compact. That said I love the drifta kitchen in the DOT.

The ARB Earthcamper is interesting. Love to see some user reviews. That said they're selling well, our local ARB can't even get one for display. Access isn't an issue for those I agree. The TVAN's are also good but neither is an affordable option.

Hah. We’ll done on the Dot fix. Maybe leave the heavy trailer at home next time you’re driving the tougher High Country tracks. As you can see in your video you didn’t do much for the tracks leaving holes etc. Why anyone would want to tow a trailer up there is beyond me. Enjoy the channel 👍
@OffTheBeatenPathAus6 күн бұрын
Thanks. Will be doing more trips with the trailer going forward. Really actually didn't damage the track much towing it, but it was proof of concept that solo it wouldn't be ideal. Going forward looking at planning trips with the trailer where it's more a base camp.

@OffTheBeatenPathAus6 күн бұрын
Yeah orignally the trailer was an equip so all it had up there was a pioneer platform. Then by the time I bought it, there was a large storage box up there, prototype of the original drifta RTT's. Solved now though. Should have done it when I put the tent up there.

Wow! You had such a different experience a year ago! We were on the trach yesterday, and the track now is so cut up and holes everywhere! Every vehicle was on a constant swerve trying to find a line that didn't end in disaster. We saw one vehicle having to be towed out after coming acroppa down the big Hill and another needing help about 50m into the start due to the condition of the track. At the trig point there were a few people we talked to who said they have been up a number of times and that currently it is in the worst condition they have seen it. If.you get a chance have another drive out there. I'd love to see a then vs now video!

@OffTheBeatenPathAus19 күн бұрын
Appreciate your point of view Colin but I don't agree. I don't think I damaged the track any more than some others would which was why I didn't sit there spinning wheels digging holes, rather opted to winch. The other 2 access points that are currently closed have been deteriorating over a long period of time. Installation was actually pretty easy in my opinion. @OffTheBeatenPathAus21 күн бұрын
It's a little more chopped up than back when I filmed this. I guess steepness is open to interpretation. If you were leaving Wonnangatta via the South East, assume that was Humffray River track? Exits are all driveable without lockers, traction control probably helps but have driven them all fairly recently in the 76 which is still open diffs. If you wanted a way out without river crosings you could take Hart Spur Track, although that is actually fairly steep as well. Has some loose sections also, but all driveable without lockers. Still best call if you're not comfortable tackling it, turn around is always the right choice. There's always another time. Hope you enjoyed your visit to wonnangatta

Pays to be mindful about some tracks, if there has been no rain for a spell, the center of some tracks can dry right out and become very hard, yet the wheel paths are still soft and sometimes deep enough to get your diffs hung up on dry hard center, check base with a stick first, if wheel paths have soft base and center has hard, best to go around...
