The double is more versatile than many think. Game load, buck, slug, etc. This you change at will and as needed without wondering what was in the feed tube of a pump. The pump action sound may intimidate, but it may also pin-point your location as well. Good choice in this day when some think complex is tactical.

I liked your review of owning that particular-styled shotgun. Also, the review of the various choices of shotgun shell ammunition for it. Similarly, my brother has a Stevens Model 311 side-by-side, double-barreled 20 gauge and I own a Remington 870 Tactical Express pump-style 12 gauge. These aren't by any means our only guns but in terms of home defense, they both rank supreme and sufficient in their purpose and function. Thank you for your well-articulated video.

A big plus with having a side by side with a 20" barrel is that it's legal to own in all 50 states and Canada. As long as my Stoeger Supreme is in the trunk of my car and not loaded, I can take it any where I care to go. This is definitely not the case with "tactical" and some other SGs.

I have numerous guns, probably more than I need. But the gun I always have at the ready at home is a stoeger dbbl shotgun just like this one. Nothing talks louder than a double barrel shotgun. The fear in someones face when they are looking at the business end of this is without compare. I have never once felt outgunned in my home with only 2 shots from a shotgun.

Respectfully disagree, stridently.A double barrel shotgun may be a visual deterrent to the bad guys anytime or any place. But I promise you, the sound of a pump shot gun being racked, will send 9 out of 10 bad guys to employ an exit strategy, stat!

Love my Stoeger since i replaced both firing pins from LONG HUNTER SUPPLY. The replacements are Stainless and slightly longer to eliminate one barrel not firing. $15.00 is alot cheaper than sending it back for warranty and the gun now works fine.

Good quality. When I first got it the shells were hard to pull but it's leather. After having shells in it for a while now it's no problem.

I work in the corrections field. I have talked to thousands of offenders. The pump action sound works on smart, sober people. Criminals who break into houses, get high first and hype themselves up to charge in. Never count on the click click to scare away a home invader.

Great vid. Now following and going to be a reg on BGWG. I have a Rem870 Tac and am looking to purchase another two SGs. Last weekend my father mentioned the stoeger brand and coach guns in general as an option. I must say I've not heard much of them but it has really caught my eye. I want something a little more no nonsense for my wife to use. It makes me feel really comfortable to hear you say you've put lots of rounds through your's. I've read of issues with misfires. Any notable probs?

Exactly right on the risk of fine motor skill deficit. It's common to freeze with a shotgun and fail to turn it on under stress. You will fight exactly how you have trained.

This makes sense, just make sure that the gun does not have a single trigger, they have a habit of letting you down when you need them the most. Please do not try to shoot both barrels at once, you need to keep the second barrel for a follow up shot. This is a good home protection gun, it is easily and quickly reloaded, most folks are not sensible enough to use something that won't penetrate walls and hurt someone next door, I am glad that you demonstrate enough intelligence to not use buckshot. Rather large birdshot like fours or sixes will do enough damage, believe me, I have observed what those sizes of shot can do at short range, A charge of # 6 shot in the face at close range will definitely cause an intruder to look someplace else to be a jerk, but at short range would surely almost take his head off, not to mention causing permanent loss of sight. Be prepared to defend yourself, but be aware that a discharge of a firearm at another human being is not something to be taken lightly, at best it will save your life or others lives, but will also result in the Police regarding you as a dangerous, and potential threat, possibly a criminal yourself. Taking a shot at someone is a serious matter and all possible outcomes should be considered in advance so that you can react with confidence, knowing your legal status and realize how the laws and police policies will affect you now and in the future. Shoot only if you are forced to do so.

I have a remington 870 with a 7 shot capacity, and a stoeger sxs coach. the stoeger is under the bed the 870 stays in the closet.

You have to pull buckshot. You can shake out birdshot. There is no extractor.

How about the Black Tactical 12 gag ? I have been looking into one of those to hang off the side of my bed . I like the Tactical rails plus the black looks cool . Im a white guy who grew up and still live in the country and i applaud your choice of defense!! Bird shot is an excellent choice of defense!! Even at 40 yds bird shot no smaller than 7&1/2 shot size causes so much pain it stops the aggressor from continuing his attack!! Being a confessed liberal does show me though that you need some enlightenment... LOL If liberals have their way you or i would not be enjoying or using firearms at all... Stick to the Constitution and the founding fathers original plan of having three equal powers elected by the people and it would run great... Very versatile weapon of choice!!!

Good advice Brad. If one hears a possible intrusion, have your weapon locked and loaded before confronting the threat. I'm a prior enlisted USMC / retired Coast Guard and it's been my experience that it is foolish, or naive to count on the noise of a round being cycled into a pump gun to scare the intruder away; better to have your gun ready for business... I also tend to agree with the reason you chose a double barrel even though I've had my Winchester Model 1200 Police at the ready for 30 yrs

Here in Cali we need to watch what we shoot even if our homes are invaded. What do you think of non lethal rounds? Rubber Slugs..they would put anyone on the floor and then pull the glock as your backup.

I work in corrections. I have never had an offender tell me of a time that they broke into a house sober. Basically, assuming that you can stop someone with pain is a bad bet.

LeadByLogic Knowing California you're liable to get sued by the man that just broke into your house for the injuries he sustained when you didn't kill him. In California, the law is that you need to "fear immediate death or great bodily harm" is going to come to you or your family members, in your home, to use lethal force. In most cases, if someone breaks in at night and they aren't actively leaving when you see them, then you are assumed to have been in fear for your life and you can shoot them. Side note: never shoot to wound. In court they can say that if you were in true fear for your life, you would never have shot just to wound.

Don't worry about what other people say about what shotgun is best for home defense I use a side by also and I have pistols and I don't have any problems with that choice. And I use bird shot only have seen people hit with bird shot and didn't kill them but it ruined there day and that is all I'm trying to do anyway if I have to take a life that's what my pistols are for and back up gun only..

I'm not arguing with California gun laws or whether or not they are communist. However, I don't think it's fair to say that there hasn't been a shooting in Cali for a long time. I think you might be using a different definition for "shooting" than the rest of us. If you're talking about school shootings... ok. But if you're talking about shootings where somebody gets shot, well that happens relatively often. 3 people got shot in Cali this month. 3 people got shot in March that I know of. I don't claim to be an expert, but shootings do happen in Cali... despite the strict gun regulation.

The Double D is an Over & Under. Secondly, he said it had a plastic stock and fore grip. No, it is walnut, just stained black. If it goes really bad for gun owners, we're fucked no matter what. In England or Australia, a criminal could be murdering your mother in front of your eyes, and if you blasted him with your legal shotgun, 3 things would happen: #1. Your shotgun would be confiscated, and your gun permit revoked for the rest of your life. #2. You'd go to prison for at least the next several years. #3. The criminal (or his family if said criminal died) would sue you into the poorhouse, with the state's help.
