@@archanaakshat4221 First book i would recommend and a book a concider a personal bible. Marcus Aurelius - Meditations... It saved me and changed my life, sure. It doesn't happen over night. But as the weeks, months and years go by the seeds(stoic teachings) that i planted years ago i starting to actually grow and become real. I use them now in my life everyday. Epictetus and Seneca, in what order you like but if you go with Seneca i recommend - Letters from a stoic and from Epictetus - Discourses and Selected Writings. Good luck.

"Learn to get along with others, regardless of the difficulty" , this couldn't be more truer since life is not designed in a way for us to only relate and interact with people we get along with hence, the need to for us to learn how to tolerate others no matter how difficult it is. As a matter of fact, embracing this kind of learning will help make us better people.

One of the things about Stoicism I've noticed is that while always practical, it is deeply profound in it's practicality. An obvious statement to some, none the less like a lot of other philosophies, it can always draw you in when you really need it. Thanks again RedFrost

I learn so much from these ancient quotes. I humbly admit that I would never come to these truths by myself. I have been stuck in the anxiety of the times, overwhelmed by information, social media, and doom scrolling. I only come to my senses when reading or listening to these wise sayings. They are the furthest thing from my usual way of thinking. So I am very thankful these voices from the past are still speaking to us. May they never be silenced.

Being stoic in a world of chaos is an ultimate superpower. I walked around in life fearing death every turn I took after surviving the Boston Marathon Bombing. The second bomb was only a few feet away from me and I ended up living with PTSD, GAD and just led my life with fear and panic attacks. I lost my mind, only to have enough and study my pain, get certified in therapy, move from Miami to a cabin in Sweden and heal my mental. I now post on KZbin about self improvement and hope to help at least one person make it just another day because I know I needed it so much in my life 🙏🏽

This is phenomenal stuff, but everyone keep in mind that despite the awesome aspects of a philosophical school of thought, it can still have its flaws. After 8 months of reading “Letters From A Stoic”, “Meditations”, and “Discourses and Selected Writings”, I’ve noticed Stoicism follows in line with the critiques of it done by Friedrich Nietzsche where there is a complete over emphasis on only reason, logic, and rational thinking being the hallmark of existence and never a reinforcement of the importance of one’s passions unless it aligns with some “Nature” in accordance with the Logos or the “good” whatever God that exists placed within us to fulfill in order to benefit humanity. In your pursuit of apatheia, you may fail to desire or strive for anything anymore because logically you start to deconstruct everything to fit within the pursuit of a virtue, but no longer enjoy it at its base value, which can be considered the dark side of taking rational Stoic thinking too far. All I’m saying essentially is to be skeptical and critical of even things that resonate with you and sound good.
@0otee Жыл бұрын
Yes, ration rules in Stoicism here I think so too. Thats too much of the whole, since were animals with each of us our ‘Holy Instinct’ which never should be swept under the carpet! Its as important to live by that in combi with our ration! It only works its best together since it is one whole in each of us. 💥👌🌺

Yes but the goal is not to be 100% stoic, thats why you find flaws in it, you can apply that to any way of thinking, but stoicism could be of great help for someone in a certain occassion just like when you season a meal, you like salt but you dont want your meal to be salty by adding to much, but a little bit could improve it a lot for you. You can take the teachings of ALL the branches of philosophy and/or religions and take the parts that help you in your everyday life and make it a well balanced life.
@alyxfaust5663 Жыл бұрын
@@fend5333 True, this is the ultimate goal that I may not reach before I get put in the ground. I see the utility of Stoicism and will always pay homage to it in my weekly gratitudes, as the dudes who exemplify it are solid people. I wrote what I did from a “Devil’s Advocate” approach whereby I mentioned a counter to modern day pop-culture Stoicism that garners a ton of likes online.

@@fend5333 "You can take the teachings of ALL the branches of philosophy and/or religions and take the parts that help you in your everyday life and make it a well balanced life." Very well said! That's exactly what I have done in my life in order to create my own personal philosophy. Stoicism is at the core of it but I have also learned, borrowed & applied from the Eastern philosophies & religions, like Taoism & Buddhism. Ultimately one can & should create their own system of principles & values to live by. A free man, who is truly independent minded, should always question everything, analyze everything, compare everything & then use what makes sense to him/her in order to be a better person & to achieve their own version of eudaimonia.

“You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.
As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world - that is the myth of the atomic age - as in being able to remake ourselves.
What is happening today is not God's final plan, for it is written: Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
