What people actually got to understand is that some people take drugs because they been in the care system and have been sexually abused as a child that what people don't actually understand about drugs and alcohol abuse addiction is all about what happened from what people have done to them remember that

I turned to alcohol when I was 16. Was homeless by 17 loved in 5 hostels before getting my own home as well as living in a woodland for 3 months because it was safer than the open streets. Now I have my partner of 6 years my son who's nearly a year old and our small home. Life can change for the better or worse at any time. I was adopted when I was 2 and always felt out of place an bullied. Alcohol gave me confidence it was a mask I could wear and the bullying stopped but it also made my mental health worse, same time made it easier to cope with. It also kept me warm at night. Lots of ups and downs later I'm so glad I'm not homeless any more and have my little family to be proud of. Every person in the streets has a different story to tell

Where do they get the money for the drugs? This is so sad and unacceptable for 2024 when we take all the economic migrants in and provide them with luxury when the government should be really helping these persons.

The strange thing is a lot of them have had housing, when you have mental health and drug problems. If you were a landlord would you want your property turned into a trap house? They are very vulnerable and most places that will help with the mental health, have strict drugs guidelines. It’s catch 22 the drug stop the mental health problems in their minds. The drugs don’t really help, the truth some people have such noise in their minds they just feel like screaming to stop it. I wonder would you not take drugs?

It's hard because as you say, 'everybody has a story' and nobody wants to live like that. And we are all closer to it than we might think. Stoke is my old home town, well 'castle was. And it's so sad to see it like this. Whilst I don't quite know would could be done just leave them to fend for themselves seems less than kind.

A very grey area my friend wish I had the answers. The only answer I can think of to removing the initial problem with the city centre is to remove these places that are the drug rehabilitation Centre further away from the city centre but that is just kick the can down the road really. I really don’t know the answer.

@@DJMtv1938I think addiction is part of a deeper societal failing. When such a high number of people rely on alcohol, prescription drugs and street drugs to cope, what does that say about the environment they are living in that there is really nothing to do but obliterate yourself. Addiction is connected with poor mental health, why does our way of life tend to generate so many mental health problems? Why do we have so much depression, anxiety, hopelessness and despair? If you can't cope with the demands of your socio-economic status, you are cast aside, then when you try to numb yourself from the many daggers stabbing at you, you are criminalized and people hate you more.

If you read the comments on here I’ve made no secret of my feelings towards them with the problems they are causing in the city and the mess they are causing (bin dipping) and some of them are absolute useless cases that have abused every help going. But has I say in the video and many other videos it’s a grey area some are not junkies and are homeless for many reasons and some are out and out junkies who are a having a devastating impact on this city. Now I’m not sure what your confusion is? I’ve made it clear on all my videos it’s a grey area no one is pretending anything. It’s very sad to see and when you hear some of the story’s it’s very sad. But it’s also sad for the good people in the community who lives are been impacted by hopeless junkies and drug dealers so I’m showing a balanced view hope that has cleared any confusion

Great video. Lived and worked near there for 30 years. Decent people, completely unacceptable how it has ended up. Politicians have a lot to answer for- no vision and promoted way beyond their capabilities. Only solution I can see is a mass non payment of council tax and income tax by the populace. The council and government are clearly not providing a service which is fit for purpose. A mass regeneration, billions not millions required. Those deserted areas will never recover, flatten them and return the land to pasture. Build only low level, high quality social housing overseen by the likes of Dyson and Bamford, on no account let the council be involved.

This is so sad. Stoke-on-Trent is definitely going through tough times, but it’s not the only place struggling, and it’s not the worst off. The decline of traditional industries, government policies, and global trade changes have hurt many areas. Plus, with an aging population, there's more demand for healthcare and social services, and a shrinking workforce. On top of that, issues like people having a hard time with education or ignoring helpful advice can make things even tougher. All these factors together add up to serious economic challenges for many communities.

It is certainly a grey area and a very mixed bag of reasons why people end up on the street from mental health, finances, alcohol and drugs. Its disheartening to see people like the last chap you were speaking to in that nightclubs doorway, he clearly looks as though he has both drug and mental health problems. He shoulnt be sleeping rough on the streets, he should be in safe accomodation where he can be looked after.

Agreed i wont be going back any time soon and I would never let my daughter go there on her own. Your video on the potteries shopping centre was spot on also. I had a walk through around 5pm yesterday and it was deserted. I think there were more shop and security staff than customers. I use to visit Debenhams went i went previously but cannot think of any shops i could actually shop in now. You were bang on about the the hive also , i remember going to cine world and then the hive afterwards sitting outside with a meal at Cost to Coast with all the restaurants open - you are right the hive did provide some optimism when it was opened which now has disappeared. Is a sad and depressing place now. I feel sorry for the shop and security staff who work there.
