Really good system used by British military as well, no doubt, as others. I was taught this method as part of my basic by Q Swales, a very long time ago. I have adapted it slightly by using lower breaking strain paracord ("2mm" type - not Chinese knock-offs). After a year using it with Scouts, I've not found any major problems and have reduced the weight of the lines by about 50%. Thanks for sharing and making the technique available to others.

That is a great system for quick needs. I saw Pathfinder Tom use one on his channel, now I know how to put my own together. It was always bungees for all shelter stuff in my day and I am just going back to proper knot tying. Thanks.

Jungle knots. Been utilised for putting up bashas for years in our jungle training. I use a combination of the single ridge line using the Siberian timber hitch and round the other tree going back on its self to tighten it and use jungle knots with micro cord for the tieouts. Have spare tieouts to extend if I can’t reach a tree or use as a gear line under the basha.

When I was a kid I was a Randy Macho Man Savage fan all the way. Looking back on some of his interviews from back in the day they are so hilarious! That dude was all energy! Like I mentioned in a previous video I am using this set up for the first time this weekend. We are going out for 3 days, and night for hiking, camping, fishing, and do some shooting drills. I am super stoked about it, and using the Stoker knot for the first time. I got a thirty foot line ready to go using about 60 feet of 550. Going to do my final gear list inspection tonight, and it's off to the races, buddy. I CANNOT wait. Thanks for sharing this one, brother. I think I am going to love it. I'll let you know how it goes. Okay, I'm in on this one it's great it has some pros and cons but what doesn't. Now for someone who hates to tie knots in the field, this is the way to go. I would like to see it a few feet longer because the trees are not all 20 feet apart other than that it's outstanding.
@tomcreekdevil5967 Жыл бұрын
I just found this video a few days ago. Awesome ridgeline system! Who cares if you dedicate a 50' section of 550 paracord. It's put to very good use! Anyone who's spent time outdoors (especially in the PNW) knows what it's like to get caught in the rain. It comes with the territory. But this system with a tarp and you're out of the rain and making coffee in no time!

If you made a couple of additional smaller sections (ie -12 ft sections) for hanging lights, clothes line, etc, it would be handy and if you happen to need a little more length you could simply string it together with that knot system.

So true!
@katherinekramer64203 жыл бұрын
Great point!
@bubba7626 Жыл бұрын
Actually the Stoker knot system made on a lenght of 100 ft of paracord is also good as a climbing aid by making a toggle rope (such as a grappling devise) , a ladder by placing sturdy sticks in the loops. Carrying a bundle of firewood by using a toggle with it, and you can still use it for your ridge line. If each member in you group had one you can hook them together for river crossings etc... the loops nearly double the strenght of the paracord

Follow up question: what are your thoughts on having 2-3 loops on each side of the center loop then leaving about a foot with no loops, tie a prussic on those sections and then continue with the loops. Or is it better to just use all loops and a toggle where needed? Just thinking out loud here.....
@STOKERMATIC2 жыл бұрын
Could do that. But I’d just use toggles running this set up.

Question: How come you don’t throw the tarp over the whole line instead of how you have it attached to each end coming from the tarp? Does this matter or no? Thanks!
@STOKERMATIC3 жыл бұрын
Laying it over the top is how i would do it, if i didn't have the material to use the toggle. This prolongs the life of the tarp because i'm reducing friction from the rope/cord onto the tarp.

I use plain rope and two knots. I deploy just as quick and I don't have a knotted up piece of rope. (I do have a few of them actually but, I prefer to use plain rope most of the time. These little "useful" items dummy down Bush skills IMO. Just take the time to learn and practice a few (6) simple knots to take care of 98% or more of your BC needs. Stay with your rope and you don't have to carry all the little doodads that have a greater chance of being lost or forgotten.
