Pt. 2 of the riveting V-tail STOL series where you watch Ben Weeks Bonanza Pilot repeatedly hit the ground without exorbitant damage to people or property. Time and time again he coaxes his Dad’s old 1950 B35 Bonanza into the air-only to reconnect with the ground again a short time later.
They say a good landing his one you can walk away from, and a great landing is one where you can use the airplane again. Ben Weeks Bonanza Pilot has neither good nor great landings, but he always makes it back to the ground.
Kick back, relax, and strap in to Ben’s beloved time capsule as he takes you on a morning flight in a 70 year old Bonanza.

Great video. Nice landings. Good to see a young man who loves the old V-tails.

Thanks Mav! I was pretty proud of this one. With more music incorporation I felt like I was better able to communicate the emotional experience of flying as well as the visual. Glad you enjoyed it.

Can you do a short video on how and where you are mounting your cameras?

Cliff Wiggins I can definitely do that. I’ll try to put out a video that shows my set up soon.

Ray Bans - Check. Bomber Jacket - Check. Beautiful flying weather - check. Ha!!! Great video Ben! My favorite of yours so far. Well done! Nothing like those nice early mornings and late evenings in the sky. This video really made me want to go fly! It's killing me that our airport is so soggy this winter. I haven't been able to fly my Bonanza since November. I've got a question and a remark for you. Question first: I thought the old Bonanzas (M35 and older) had retractable steps, but I see yours is always down. What's the story there? And the remark: Notice that in the low light landing video at the end there is no "crazy prop". It's because the camera is slowing down the shutter speed to capture more light. If you'll put an ND8 filter on your camera in most cases that'll change the shutter speed enough that it's out of sync with the prop and you'll lose the "crazy prop" even during bright daylight.

FlyinWithBrian insufferable nerd who wears aviators and leather jackets to pretend to be cool- check! Actually I think the bomber jacket gives me a hp boost. Lol My gf gave the jacket to me as a Christmas present so I have a good alibi for living out my fighter pilot fantasy. yeah so the step is supposed to be retractable but since we are just doing a lot of putting around we decided to duct tape it open for ease of access without wearing out the components. Eventually I’m gonna get the step repair kit from Adam McPeck so that it functions like it’s supposed to. Right now it retracts until you step on it and if you’re not careful and just step off of it it retracts really quick and bangs into the fuselage. I’ll get that filter eventually I just haven’t gotten around to it and finances are a bit tight right now. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Nice video! Are you and your dad A&P's?
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot

Thanks! No we are not AandP’s but my dad might as well be. He knows the B models inside and out from years of caring for ours. We have to work under the supervision of an IA in the area. My older brother is working towards getting his A and P license currently. That will make our lives a lot easier.

People who tell you not to do a flyby within the limits of the airframe are buzzkillingtons and should stick to their flight sims.

Lol I took quite a shellacking, but I’m over it now. I’ve learned quite a bit about internet criticism since that video.

Not sure if you're looking to be a professional pilot for a living someday, but if you are I would keep the high speed low passes to a minimum, or at least don't film them.

Av8rMark funny you should mention that. Not looking to be a professional pilot, but I did get a pretty good ribbing on BeechTalk over it. That’s the first one I’ve ever done and I didn’t realize it was such a no no. Shoot I thought they were standard issue for fly-ins. Won’t be doing them any more for sure.

What’s the reasoning behind this?

Low pass was fine, don’t worry about critics, they are unhappy about something else in their lives & just keyboard bullying. Beechtalk is a great forum, but like anywhere there are a few professional critics who need ignored
