Thanks for the info! I can tell ya that I hate a thief. Years ago my husband was young and bought his 1st 4 wheeler a Yamaha Banchi! It wasn't about 2 months old and it got stolen. Also his brothers to. It made me sick. We were 19 years old and I had to make payments every month on a bike we didn't have. 5 years I gritted my teeth that if I ever find the son who did it. They will get it. But anyway I looked it up tonight cause someone brought a bike to have us work on cause it has no keys and it just looks stolen. With the problems they said it has so I want to find out. Also we have asked them to come get it asap cause we are not the place to bring anything stolen!! But I liked your video a lot and thank you for the information!!

Great advice! I read some of the comments below and, yes, sometimes the registry won't have the information you were looking for but my thoughts are that if the seller has no problem with you looking up the VIN number there shouldn't be any issues, I'd be VERY worried if the seller starts freaking out on you when you want to do a search, for obvious reasons.
@HarveySpooner7 жыл бұрын
Hey CpILe52irRC, If one starts right out asking about the VIN, looking for it to make sure it was not removed, and then going thru the trouble of running it in front of the seller, that and getting a signed recipient with the VIN from the seller covers one's butt should there be an issue.... Unfortunately, most vintage ATCs/ATVs around me where never registered and never had paper work or documentation beyond the OEM owner, therefore, most folks can not provide the VIN number for a stolen ATV. Most are identified by distinctive photos or a snitch and if they are returned, given that nothing can be proven, most of the time, charges are not pressed. Thanks for your thoughts, the info U provided, watching, and commenting!!!

here in Oregon off road vehicles are not required to have a title....but need to be registered to ride on public or federal lands ...but you need no proof of vin number they just ask you what the number is....so on my bikes I protect myself by scribing my initials and the last 4 of my social on the bottom of the back bone of the frame and on the bottom of the engines out of sight...and I take a rubbing of the vins frame and engine both...so if ever one is stolen I can 100% prove ownership of that machine....if they can't see or know the information of ownership is there they won't know to scratch it out or grind it off....it's a great way to protect yourself....there's no question who owns it when you.have the vin number rubbing and your initials along with the last 4 of your social or drivers license number engraved on the frame and engine.....also it's a good it's a good idea when buying a used machine to check to see if the vins on the frame and engine match....just because the frame vin isn't hot don't mean the engines vin isn't hot or visa versa
@HarveySpooner8 жыл бұрын
Hey Dude, It is a good idea to put a unique marking on everything that is important and can be stolen.... Now days with digital cameras, it is not too difficult to document the VIN numbers on their ATVs.... U indicate that engine and frame numbers match, I'm going to have to check that on my Hondas that I know are OEM complete, good info there!!!! Thanks for all the good info, your thoughts, good ideas, watching, and commenting!!!

Around here you need ATV's plate and insured to ride on public land. A few years ago I retrieved my 40 hp Evinrude through craigslist and boy was the seller shitting bricks when I showed up with documentation and a big pipe wrench. The thief gave me the old story that he bought my $2000 motor for $100 in a parking lot. All I can say is he's lucky that he didn't lip off or I would have found a use for the wrench.

hey Harvey. same thing here in mass. only problem is there is nowhere to ride a quad or 3wheeler legally. so if you have a plate. the cops don't have to catch you. just have to write your plate # down and your busted. there is one place next town over . if your registered you can ride motor cycles there. here I can go half a mile down the street. there is a pond I fish at. train tracks lead to a state Forest. I'm all set with riding a mini bike down the whoopties though. my back can't handle that any more. luckily if any cops are around they come from the other direction. there busy with real crimes. dought they would bother a mini bike going 20 down the side of the street. I also love the stock muffler on the predator engine. sounds like someone mowing there lawn.and it's quiet. most will never hear me. mostly I have rode around my development. its private property. so far no one has complained. I wait till after 5 when the office is closed. lol when I get a second minibike or pit bike I'll reg them both. then hit legal trails with my kids. gotta have a helmet on also. cheers bud. 👍

I live in MA too & there's many places to ride but most are in Western MA. I grew up on South shore & we had all kinds of places to ride but they were private lands mostly but if someone came we just took off even from cops, I could easily dust their cop cars even their Bronco down small trails, lol. Good old days the 80s we could get away with lots of stuff back then

my frame vin will not match my title because 12 years ago a friend of mine bent my frame and put a used frame from ebay on my atv. i am going to run vin number that he put on my atv and see if anything comes back
@chickensfloat74274 жыл бұрын
What do i do if my bike has a serial number? I want to register it. As far as i know its never been stolen but i have no idea on the history of it aside from i bought it from a guy for 80 bucks with a blown moter, a twisted up frame, no sweat, and for a gas tank cracked from shrinkage.

Damaged VIN - one or two numbers illegible. Makes it hard to guess. One number = easy - run em' on a website such as vincheckup.com till it comes up valid using different #'s. Two or more = hard to do. There's a key number in a VIN so it's kinda hard to throw numbers at it and make it work. I have a legit bike no title with a damaged VIN so I had to figure it out this way. Not hot - just damaged VIN and wanting to pursue title application.

@HarveySpooner7 жыл бұрын
Hey Tactical, Interesting, years ago, during a move from one house to another, I had a really nice 1985 rolling frame with plastic taken.... All it needed was an engine to become a really nice ATC.... Never did find out where it went, normally someone talks, or someone suddenly has a 200X who did not have one before, this one completely disappeared.... I often wondered if it was pushed into the woods or into a pond... Once again, no one talked, even years later.... Sorry U had Ur 200X taken, it hurts twice, U were ripped off and U lost something that is very, very hard to replace, a good ATC becomes like family.... Thanks for the info, I understand Ur feelings, thanks also for watching and commenting!!!

Same here on stolen trike, I just spent $400 my own hard earned money when I was 15 for dealer repairs to my yamaha 225dx & within a week it was gone from our property never to be seen again. My Dad brought home a new 1987 Warrior 350 but within a year I was out cruising in my own car & sort of lost interest in atv riding. Now I'm ready to buy a couple quads & maybe an old 3 wheeler for me & my family and some Craigslist ATV ads are so sketchy in my area, no title? none of my cash goes into someones hand.

no problems with that kinda thing here as long as your sensible. yea running vin number is a good way of covering your ass but how many people do you think have their trikes or older quads vin recorded in the event it gets stolen. do you have a vin record of every item in the hoard

Hey Ashley!!! Very interesting, so many people don't care and play Russian roulette with this. It's the honest people who get stuck if something is wrong most of the time. My question is could you build a bike from other parts and weld the vin parts on legally? If your a great welder this could work.

It's a $$ racket! Why do you have to register an OFF road bike? I don't know of ANY public land that allows people to ride on so like 99% of people will be riding on private property anyway right? Again why even have a title because it is for OFF road use? I mean the bank will want one of course if your financing it. But if you buy it outright you shouldn't need one?$$ Hungry idiots piss me off. LOL BTW I had a 84 3 wheeler stolen from me and I later, Years later found it was took to KY. so I never saw it again. I was so Mad.

Site is fake. When i got my blaster last year it was clean. Last night someone recognized it because it was stolen in 2018 and the noticed it because there was a dent in the oil tank from when it was rear ended. The cops ran the vin on the bike and the owners took it back home. Completely fucked me over. I put 2k into my bike just for me to lose all of it. And it’s not like i can easily get that money back. I’m 13 and worked my ass of for this bike. I got nothing back after they took it. Countless money and hours into it just for it to be taken away from me.
