The theft of Swiss luxury watches is booming in many of the world's major cities. In London, hundreds of luxury watches are stolen every month. These thefts are often committed with violence and in broad daylight. The police and private detectives are struggling to curb down the phenomenon.

Maybe the problem is wearing a fortune on your wrist so people will know you are obnoxiously wealthy (or want to look that way). A watch is easily trafficked on the black market, and I have zero sympathy for them, personally.

maybe just use the clock on your phone, or all the clocks out there just in the world. they're everywhere now. it's not necessary to slap a monument to your greed on your wrist anymore.

9:38 what could be done much more effectively than that very badly demonstrated tape trick that nobody is going to want to use just in case they get robbed today is for watchmakers to design unusual and difficult to open buckles, or buckle locks. what could be relatively reasonable is a buckle lock that doesn't require a key or code to open, but does have a delay of 5 minutes or so.

Wealth disparity is the cause. Walking around wearing a $50k watch in a world where 95% of your fellow citizens can't afford to as well is a liability. The individual rich choose to then invest in security and the Rightwing want to spend public funds protecting those rich people and preventing poor people from access. Where as, if we put an effort into closing income disparity and the wealth gap crime of this sort would go down.
