Hi Eric great video It reminds of a half ball which you put in the washing machine ti help clean your clothes. I think if they redisign it maybe something that like a slide with som form of lubricant on it so it slides down to the bottom of the pouch. ☺

It looks like the table thing that are put on pizzas to keep the box from mashing it. With how thick my output is at times the same pancaking issue would be likely. Sorry you had that experience but I appreciate you putting yourself on the line for us.

That was an excellent review! It just goes to show that something that looks good may not be any good. I did not even know there was such a thing as a stoma guard. I think I'm going to look around and see what I can find. They don't train us on what products are available. It's really frustrating. I found a good Stoma Nurse though, that helped me so much. I now use the one-piece pre-cut convex pouches by Hollister, the product number is 8613. I use the Hollister 7805 barrier rings as well. I had considerable problems with leakage before I started using these. Thank You for your videos. You help me feel less weird about my Ileostomy.

Great review. I don't know if any stoma guard would work on me. My stoma is flat or convex, in fact some times it appears sunken. Output is normally 100% liquid. About two weeks ago I was in the hospital for four days with Sepsis. I have been on two antibiotics as well as Budesonide, which is a steroid. Two nights ago I experienced two leaks within just a few hours of each other because of thicker output and I was totally unprepared because of this. One was at about 2:00am and then after I had a new bag on I was unable to go back to sleep because I was afraid it would leak again. I kept checking to make sure everything was moving down in the bag and I tried sleeping in odd positions that I thought would force it to move down. I don't know what time I was finally able to go back to sleep, but I know it was after 5:00am and when I woke up at about 9:00am I had another leak. I have not had another one, but I am very aware that I need to rinse out my bag with water and I run my finger along the outside to clear away the output from the inside around the ring of the bag. I am so grateful for people like you and Megan because you get on here and let us all know your experiences and your information is so helpful when Doctors who don't live these experiences say, "each person is different you just have to experiment" and they say this every time. I have a really great Gastroenterologist, but at times, if a person has not LIVED with something that is going on, their advice can be very limited. Thank you again and have a wonderful day. ✌️❤️✌️

+Angel For Animals Holy smokes, you went through a lot! I hope that you're feeling better now! If your stoma is flush and you wear a 2pc with a mechanic coupling (that plastic ring) then you likely won't even need a stoma guard as the ring will offer protection from most things (unless it's something sharp!).

@@lauravalancy2521 ~ Thank you so much. Things got way worse before they got better. I ended up bedridden for over three years. It was horrible. I was sleeping all the time, barely eating, missing every family function, holidays, birthdays...you name it. I have only been getting around for about six months at this point. In 2010, I had Thyroid Cancer, I was put on Levothyroxine...things were great up until they weren’t. Over three years later my new Thyroid Dr decided to try something new...Tirosint...liquid thyroid medication. My numbers were way out of control, in the “death zone” as she put it. My Thyroid had been completely removed and having Crohn’s Disease started making my body jot absorb medications properly. The liquid gave me my life back...that’s a tip, if a medication isn’t working properly, if liquid is available, get your Dr to fight for it. Cutting pills into halves or even thirds, also helps. Thank you so much for asking after me, that was so sweet of you. ✌️❤️✌️

I’m 90% better now ☀️☀️☀️

Hey Eric I sleep with an overnight bag which limits me to sleeping on my back. Do you have any suggestions?
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy Жыл бұрын
Hi Frank. Is your goal to sleep on your side, or are you having difficulties even with lying on your back? One thing worth looking at is a support belt (i.e. a vertical stealthbelt), however, you may need to inquire with the manufacturer to see if they have a garment that will accommodate the larger overnight size. Many may even offer to custom make one. The idea is to offer some support to the bag, so you can lay on your side without is wanting to tug or get under your body. I hope that helps :)

What's the best ostomy guard for liquid ilostomy?
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 4 жыл бұрын
Any stoma guard will work with loose or liquid output, so it's a matter of what style you prefer. I would personally thicken the output using a gelling product as I find that liquid output is more difficult to manage, but that won't affect the use and performance of the guard.
@asafpovo1304

Vegan Ostomy well I don't know which I prefer. Its cost about 50$ so its expensive if I will not use it. How do uvgelly the output? What u recommend? My stoma filled very fast and I can't relax my hand on it. Can u help me with links to this kind of guard? I just recently switched from colostomy to iliatomy with very short bowel. Thank for your fast reply
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 4 жыл бұрын
@@asafpovo1304 It really depends on your application. There are quite a few sizes, shapes, and profiles of stoma guards and one offers their own benefits. I have a video that goes into more details: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6q8oWptr650ndU There are also several different types of gelling products available depending on where you live. Most will do the same thing and it's only a matter of preference and availability. More details in this video: www.veganostomy.ca/guide-to-ostomy-gelling-products/ You may want to speak with your doctor about how to slow down your output. Short bowel can be challenging, but there may be medications or dietary changes you can make to help manage it better if it's currently causing you trouble. Gelling the output will help in some way. Good luck!

They made the stoma flat deliberately? If so I am baffled as to why, if not I'm sorry they botched it. I know what that is like, my second stoma was a mess. How deep is the convexity on your appliance? I'm not sure about Hollister but Coloplast makes a 2" deep flange. Do you wear a ostomy belt too? Those help a lot. Eakin seals or strip paste could help with the leaks, otherwise surgery may be needed to bring the stoma out
