Hey Alois! Just a random autistic piggy here that wants to see you succeed! I've seen almost all your videos and of course I know you are a killer player and a great Riven. Just wanted to hit with my two cents/recommendations for your goal to rank 1. For context, I've been playing since beta, and "maining" riven since around 2013 - "" because I played a lot of champs in a lot of roles, even though I never made a life out of playing league I still managed to have around 2-3k games per year in average. My goal was never to be rank 1 or so, but my tysm definitely made me try to get good at many champs and learn about league in detail. The above is just some observations/comments, please don't take it as an offense, as you are an amazing player, but maybe if you find at least 1 useful tip, I'll already feel like I'm supporting your journey in some way. 1. One detail I noticed you do is, when wallhoping over turrets and destroyed turrets, you tend to e first. I've seen a few clips where doing this doesn't allow you to catch opponents or get away. Turrets and inhibs have a surprisingly forgiving wallhop range. To this, I strongly recommend utilizing inhib jumps more! When you q3 through inhib, the extended range from r+q3 covers an enormous distance and enemies rarely expect it. Test it out in practice tool, you'll see I'm not overhyping it. 2. Gragas and Skarn matchups - 2a) In your recent videos I saw you struggling a bit on the laning phase with those. I'd have to disagree with the E start vs Grag, If you rewatch it, even with E start you get dropped at around 60% hp lvl 2 anyways. Starting q gives the pressure to gragas that if he missplays lvl 1, he loses lane immediately. Lvls 2 and 3, instead of trying to facetank Gragas's E, you can consistenly dodge it with q e diagonally, or ofc trying to bait him into slamming too close to minions (I somehow struggled more dodging them with e q than with q e. My theory for this was always that q animation is slighlty longer than e, so casting e as second helped get away of the "wonky" gragas e hitbox faster, but god knows. The minion part is of course also a pain because it's hitbox is wonky and bs). Mercs are OK but remember that Gragas E, the most annoying ability, is half knockup half stun (some sources say 75% knockback 25% stun), so effectively tenacity is not really that valuable (as knockups are unnaffected by tenacity). Gragas R is also a knockup, so realistically, you will only reduce the CC effect on E by a margin, and the slow on Q (which is not the most useful as well, Riven's dashes on q and e distance is unaffected by slows). On the contrary, ionians reduce your e lvl 1 to 8.7 seconds, that extra second of advantage help a ton + you save on 300g. Ofc if enemies have AP jungler or overall high enemy AP, mercs is the go. Grag E is 14 sec, but it gets reduced to 8.4 if he lands it. Your E lvl 1 is 10 secs. The best way to avoid getting stomped is having that 1-3 second advantage in consideration (depending on runes and first back items, grag E with cdr boots becomes 12.2 secs overall, 7.3 secs if landed, your E will remain 10 secs because you won't go for ionians in the first back). Once you respect those 1-3 seconds, the matchup becomes a lot less frustrating. 2b) Skarner and overall high poke tanks - For those matchups, my best advice is, in lane, don't think of your E as a shield, think of it as a gap closer for an extended fight, specifically at the end of the enemy's slowing cc ability. This applies to Skarner, but also Malph, Ornn, etc. After Skarner uses his entire burst, you will be slowed, lost 40% of the hp and maybe even pinned against a wall. Instead of using your e early, just keep AA'ing him whilst he "bursts" you. Then, when he's full on CD's, your e allows you to gap close and stay on top. When you use it right before the "slow" ends, enemies tend to still stay close enough, because they are used to waiting for the slow to finish before backing off to an even "safer" location. Your e distance remains the same while slowed, so it's like a "mini cleanse", effectively reducing the slow time by 0.25 seconds (animation time of e). Same with q. The idea is to sacrifice the HP to run him down after, so using your q or e before they use their abilities is insta lost. If you rewatch your skarner game, at around min 28 from the youtube vid, you keep trying to poke him with q3 or so, but skarns interrupt works the same as a well-timed poppy e. At 28:13, you might've had a window to kill but you used your abilities to run away instead of fighting him, when he was on full cd's! If you don't win these matchups in the early levels like this, they become very draining or impossible, especially now that you can't just wait for the ravenous hydra spike where you just powerfarm the entire map. At the moment, you have to win the early or you will get drained out and will have to rely on your team to do good or find a winning play later on. But as you know, if you're playing Riven and you're even, you're behind. 3. Fps lock! - Maybe your current uncapped setup works for you, but I noticed in your videos that your usual FPs rate is around 230/240 when laning, but it gets reduced to 150ish in teamfights. I don't know if you have felt it, but to me playing like this felt "inconsistent". Capping your FPS at 144 or 120 would ensure the same "feel" throughout the entire game. With 144 FPs, your game checks for inputs every 6.94 miliseconds, vs 250 fps where it checks around 4 miliseconds. With leagues server tick rate being 30 hz (game gets rendered 30 times per second), that leaves you with around 4.14 inputs per server update, vs 8.3 at 250fps. What does this mean in general? With 144 FPs you have more than enough fluidity and responsiveness to play top notch, but that 3 milisecond difference in input checks might make you feel "wonkier" when teamfighting vs laning. I might be tweaking here and it might all be placebo but after many games I did end up just capping at 144 always. 4. Escapes - Similar logic as point 2b) When cc locked, I noticed sometimes you try to e q out, just to get cc locked again. The most consistent escapes I've noticed vs for example champs like Leo, Rell, Naut is to just let them use cc and stall for a second. Then, q, ewq and q and I believe you can be a lot sneakier with those. I wish you all the best for this climb, I'm very happy to see you succeed, as I believe you are an absolute master at league and fundamentos! Big hug
