I did recently. I was OK. Hired boots n skis. They were apparently my size, but I couldn't turn properly. I couldn't get the leverage in my ankles. The more I tried, the more it hurt. Its probably the cheapish boots?!?!

I am a snowboarder and I tried to ski after watching a few tutorials. I would like to share this is the best video which helped and saved me in some tricky places. Slide slipping advice, transition from snowplough to parallel in a turn and everything helped a lot. Also stand up and fix bindings after crash 😊 . And very important set my expectations that feeling a bit of control after first day is very possible! Big thanks and have nice rides. Cheers ❤

Nice. But as soon as he said he'd skated, surfed and snowboarded I thought - "never on skis but not really a beginner"
@imac1955 жыл бұрын
Late reply i know, but it's very much possible to learn how to ski in one day. My first time skiing the closest parallell i had was ice skating which i was terrible at. So i just learn the basic knowledge on how to brake and taught myself to ski by riding the easiest hill several times until i felt secure.

You are absolutely right, but the progression is still good .So if your student have never skated/surfed/snowboarded, may take longer to learn, but in the end he will have to follow the same steps

I am really happy you fructified the chance of doing a big favour to someone. This stage of "frustrated not even-skier" puts everyone on the balance of even quit a sport that could have later on bring amazing satisfactions and benefits. Do you know any trick for learning how to slow down? I had for my first lesson an instructor that kept screaming at me " Do the slice of pizza ! Do the slice of pizza !" ( reffereing to that position when you do a sort of triangle with your skis and are also on the edge of the skis) and i kept saying " i am trying but i can't !" ( i was either on the edges, either doing the triangle but not both in the same time). And that was the whole "lesson" about. Like you said: not being able to explain how to do it, the "instructor" limited to just show me how she was doing it. Not very useful...

Like this guys approach - start them off with the "old time" methods that teach edge control, weight shifting, and skid turning, exactly the things beginners need to know to control things when they get on a slope that is a bit too much for them.

I was a bit surprised though with how you taught plough turns - I always taught my pupils to move the center of weight to turn and not the "point you toes". I think this puts less strain on the knees - but I'd like to learn the ideas behind your teaching methods =) Best regards, - and again thx for creating these excellent resources :)!

I find the title and image of this video discouraging. I am 62, overweight with minor balance issues and a left foot that turns outward by about 15-20 degrees. I've never even skated. I NEED to learn to ski. My reasons are personal, but assure you there is a very compelling (to me) need. My first lesson just showed me that skiing is an out of control, masochistic, activity. I couldn't even snowplough to a stop. Maybe I will be able to at my next lesson. Someone told me to try shorter, lighter skis next time. So you show a young , very fit, person as your beginner. Whoo hoo. I saw 4 year olds mastering their first day of skiing when I took my first lesson. Show me someone like me learning beginner skills in one day, and I'll be more impressed. Now I'm off to view the video for tips. I'm sure they will be great. Just letting you know, though, that the first impression of this video is not helping me to gain confidence.

Suggestion: Can you please make a "how to ski twin tip (rocker/camber/rocker) skis?" Not as easy as some might think. I tried my first time last night and the skis kept over rotating in my turns, kinda squirrelly to be honest. I'm riding the Armada ARV 106's FYI. Any advice would be great. So my girlfriend has had two lessons and is basically here at this level and making more parallel s turns. After two lessons I feel at some point she needs to learn how to slide and skid and do the basic hockey stop so she can stop if she needs to and also use skidding and sliding to control speed as she gets off the honey hill so she can better control her speed on steeper terrain. I am a self taught advanced intermediate and we are going to Colorado next month. Am I correct on her needing to learn this next? I feel she is timid and scared to take it to a bigger hill and feel if she could slide and skid she would feel more in control but they haven’t taught her that yet. You can’t always just make big s and c turns in my opinion. I want to help her get to the next level in her progression.

At the out set forming an understanding of nature is an intimidating and daunting prospect. Just the rigors of being outside in the cold with nothing but squeaky cold powder beneath your feet is simultaneously pleasantly stimulating and frightening. These constant stimulations overwhelm many and they can never find their ground state so they wobble constantly within their cone of probability as they fall over again and again leaving a large gap between their level of excitement and their ability to function. using natural forces. children know the importance of rolling in the snow making snowmen, snowballs learning the temperature gradient moisture content, gauge pressure compaction ratios vital to establishing a stable ground state allowing you to manage all the geometries created from stacking force fields in different ranges of time dilation. these are the Big words needed to explain Counterbary= ground state. Bigger words come to mind, special Relativity, Local reference frame, dynamic Counterbary,, rectilinear motion, inertial frame of reference. Big words that I like thinking about in my brain it feels good to know what nature is and how to function in it. Newtonian mechanics and thermodynamic law govern all transitional state changing dynamics. excitation from the ground state results in function. The physics of motion applies to all mass. We are mass when in motion all comparisons are relative to observational disparity between different frames of reference. Of course you don't use such verbiage as lessons but for you own enjoyment as a coach knowing this is better than not knowing the context of learning.
