Bret calls for color for no reason but to push this guy...I'm sorry no other 5 time champ would or has ever done things like that and that's just one example of his brilliance and how he put what was best for the business ahead of himself....I say that to all the foolish wrestlers that thought Bret was all into himself....he was.into what was right and when that was against what others wanted they deemed him selfish and too serious...fact is he was serious that's why he became a champion as a non giant in the land of giants...Gave over 20 hall of famers their best match and no one else on his level has done that...not 1

Yep. "Passing out from the pain" without blood wouldn't have made much sense since it never happened in the history of WWE before this but seeing all that blood on top of that made it believable cause people do pass out from blood loss.

Also Brett was smart enough to know that getting Austin over that strong benefited the whole company. Rock did the same for Brock

The only idiots who still hold a grudge against Bret are ones who have their mind made up about him. There could be a story about Bret saving 20 people from a burning building and those same idiots will say Bret only did it for attention.

Agreed. I started watching the WWF in the late 1980's and my friends were either fans of Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior. I, on the other hand, was a big fan of Bret Hart and the Hart Foundation. Along with Jake Roberts, Mr Perfect and Rick Rude. I always liked the guys who were great in the ring and weren't huge muscleheads that would just scream into the camera and have 2 moves in the ring. Bret is one of the best blokes ever at telling a story in the ring and being able to make his matches great with whoever his opponent was. I remember the King of the Ring 1993. He had 3 matches that night against 3 totally different opponents and 3 totally different styles and each match was different, yet still great. Or very good at least.

The knock on bret was he took himself too seriously but i think because of that is why his work in the ring was the best or top 3 in my opinion. Today, these guys dont care about ring psychology, selling. Let do as many impact moves and flips as we can in 30-40 min and get as many pops as possible
@christhornycroft36867 күн бұрын
Because for a lot of them, they’re marks and their biggest memory of Bret is him telling the truth about their precious country. All you have to do to be a heel in America is tell the truth. If you use specifics and are nuanced, even better. You get nuclear heat.

Such a shame that we lost the ‘ Fink ‘ not so long ago. He was the best ring announcer the WWF ever had. When he would say ‘ AND NEW WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION CHAMPION ‘ and the name of the wrestler would just sound amazing.

One of... If not THE greatest matches in the history of PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING (🤬 you, Vince!)! This was a Bret Hart mastercraft; and the fact that Steve was the other guy was absolutely perfect. Some might call it a perfect storm, because the opponents were perfect for each other; and both Bret and Steve were on a level beyond anyone else.

Thank you for posting this, as an old school wrestling fan this was a great listen listening to two excellent wrestlers talk about what went into this match. It made the old wrestling nerd in me geek out. This is my all-time favourite match of all the matches I have seen, it never gets old to me. I remember seeing it live on PPV and I feel the same about it then as I do now but now with better insight.

Agreed but I do think persona and gimmick can hide how good someone is in the ring. Stone Cold was legit really good in the ring. Brock is another example. Even Hogan was better in ring than his cookie cutter moveset showed.

This is why they’re both legends. E & C get it as well. That’s why they were so good. Still are in fact. In fact this video made me go and watch the match again and everything that’s said here is spot on. It’s not only one of the best matches I’ve ever seen but also one of the most natural and free flowing matches. One of the best examples of a babyface turning heel and vice versa.

One of my favorite moments of the match that I wish they would have touched on was Vince's reaction to the blood. You can tell it made him uncomfortable, he mentions that they may have to stop the match and that it would technically count as a submission by Stone Cold, which didn't really make sense lol. Very quickly Vince can see the magic that's happening and gets over it. He then goes on to say that this doesn't happen that often in the WWF, almost a message directly to the sponsors lol.

Love the hitman. A master of the science of wrestling. He has to be in the conversation, in regards to the mount Rushmore of wrestlers. Not personalities. Scientific wrestlers.

Not sure why people hate bret. Yes he's too bitter, yes he is his own biggest fan. But why hate him? Man has been through alot. I don't see what hes done to warrant all the hate. In the ring he was better than 98% of any wrestlers

i love early stone cold before he became the gimmicked out baby face who flips off the ceiling all the time and pretends to drink beer foam. i hated his avalanche of gimmicks when he was baby face. same reason i dont like watching old Hogan matches now, the avalanche of gimmicks is just nauseating after you're seen it a couple times.

Love how his name is right there in the title and you still can't spell it right. Really shows how aware you are otherwise you'd know that Bret survived a stroke and cancer, not once but twice...the cancer not the stroke, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame...also twice and once super recently, like 2019 recently.

Several critics and Vince calls bret a draw According to prominent industry historian Dave Meltzer, Hart was "a major draw in the United States and probably more so in Europe".[247] Fellow journalists Bob Ryder and Dave Scherer described him as "an incredible international draw, attracting standing room only crowds in every corner of the globe."[248] Fin Martin of Power Slam also spoke to Hart's drawing power, placing him number 7 in "The 10 Best U.S.-Style All-Rounders", a list that considered drawing ability, along with workrate and promo skills.[249] Vice's Corey Erdman wrote, "1997 was one of the hottest periods in the history of professional wrestling... Hart was the [WWF's] biggest star, arguably its biggest live gate draw globally."[250] Recalling WCW's acquisition of Hart that year, WWE owner Vince McMahon argued that his chief competitor "could have really built the entire franchise... around this extraordinary star." McMahon felt that WCW misused Hart, which was "fortunate" for the WWF.[27] On the February 16, 2006 episode of Raw, i

Stone cold is perhaps the greatest Babyface or Raw Superstar, but Bret Hart will go down as perhaps the greatest wrestler. Brett is truly a great storyteller and has great instinct on what should be done in the ring. We all know that Vince McMahon is a genius, but Bret Hart saw the potential in Stone Cold Steve Austin first. I think that says a lot about Bret Hart. I know that Bret Hart struggled later in his career with being a face in the USA, but he still remains a great international Superstar.
