Mike Haduck shows his style of re-pointing or Grouting, and replacing flagstone patios. All my videos are my ways and ideas. I always suggest that anyone doing any work to consult outside professional help.

Hey Mike it's me again. Had to tell you Maryanne Ryzner always has the Hometown Boyz at her mother's bar. She and I have been friends for over 35 years. I left PA 25 yrs ago and now you taught me how to fix my foundation. Small world!

I am a mason in colorado and do a bunch of patios. After laying the flag its a whole lot easyer to pack all the joints with dry mortar keeps it clean and looks great. Demo saws are also tool to have. thanks mike

pennsylvania winters are harsh and the freezing and thawing causes much damage if not done this way, I am sure the mexican way is good for mexico. and I have seen the most beautiful work done in mexico. God bless. mike

Hi Mike, just finished a 120 sf natural flagstone patio. It came out great and no chance I would have even attempted without your videos. One problem I had that “was no big deal” but would be interested in seeing how you do it is how you estimate the quantity of stone needed for a project. I ended up going back to the stone yard 4 times because I kept underestimating quantities and didn’t account for trimming stones. I had a similar problem estimating the sand. Thanks Mike!! No chance I could have afforded this patio to be installed professionally and I had a blast doing the job.

Hi Jonathan, that’s a good question, To tell the truth I got those jobs written down somewhere and if I have to do another one I know what to do, but like anything I could look and guess closely, if that makes sense, thanks mike
@jonathanschearer77785 жыл бұрын
Mike Haduck Masonry That makes sense, I have a better idea for the next project. Just read my post and I meant to say could not afford to have it done professionally. My thick thumbs always make mistakes on these phones. Thanks for your videos!

@Husqvarnapro12 I personally am a fan of gravel. expecially because of the pennyslvania winters. other parts of the country are different. It is always good to ask your local professionals what they use in your area. thanks Mike
@MikeHaduck11 жыл бұрын
yep it is for sure, In Pa the winters will kill a job where you don,t put the joints in as same time as the stone, and in a could years the joints would be falling out.So in our area it is the standard way of doing it at the same time. leaned from the old guys. other states or countries is a different story. thanks for the comment. mike

Hi Mike how are you? hopefully things will get better sooner rather than later. I wish you all the best, thats for sure, as I mentioned here in Melbourne Australia. we are doing well but ofcourse you need to be good at it and have the right contacts. but I couldn't agree more with you mate. all the best and take care mate. ps. so that you know prices here vary from &80 AD a meter up to &140 per meter. plus &40 per meter if they need to be sealed. two coats. so there you go. regards Jeremy
@MikeHaduck11 жыл бұрын
I really don't use sealers. and I found a sealer could trap the water in as much as it could keep it out. and or course everyone of my mason friends have a different opinion,,,,,with straight Portland and sand (2 sand to one portand) I personally have never had a problem with my work. thanks mike
@MSmith041111 жыл бұрын
Very informative video. When finished, do you seal the patio, and with what product and procedure do you use. Thanks for your reply.

@yermi63 Hi Jeremy. in PA it cost about 12 to 16 dollars a square foot. (diffrenet measurements than australia) but it is more or less depending on the job. A good union mason makes between 200 to 300 pr day. If I bid a job I usually figure it out a couple diffrent ways. the trade has changed over the years. I use to build 3 or 4 stone fireplaces a year but haven.t built one in 8 years now. regards Mike

Hi Mike! I like your work! We have a beautiful flagstone walkway which was badly damaged. The walkway is however beautiful and there are many flagstones that can be salvaged (around 80%). The difficulty is finding a mason skilled enough to break up the walk while salvaging the stone and then just redoing what was already there. You would have to add some new flagstones. Where is your business located? We are in northern NJ. Maybe you could stop by and take a look at what we would have to do?

Mike, really like the way your walk and patios look. I live very close to you, down the road in ny here. How thick is the gravel base, and how thick is the cement pad you make?
@MikeHaduck7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, everything depends on the situation and where and when and every mason says different, I usually use a gravel base at least 4 inches and 4 to 5 inches of concrete, but again, everything depends, thanks, mike
@MikeHaduck12 жыл бұрын
@jdsus I do have wet saws and use them depending on what job I do. but these videos only show how I (myself) am doing masonry and I am not promoting how to use tools. especially when it concerns health safety and welfare issues, always check any kind of masonry work or saftey things out with your local professionals... thanks for asking mike

@yermi63 Hi Jeremy, things in Pennsylvania are day to day. not much like it use to be. seasonaly trades are a hard thing to make a living at. and now they are regulating everthing. Its almost like are a criminal if you are in business,you can work in this town but not that city,,,getting worse then before we declared independance. but I have steady customers that keep me busy. "A Good name is better than precious ointment" is a biblical proverb I try to live by, regards Mike
@Husqvarnapro1212 жыл бұрын
do you lay gravel underneath all of this?
@MikeHaduck13 жыл бұрын
@yermi6 funny thing you say that cause the grinder gave up the ghost (died) shortly after that. Mike

Hi Mike ! I've done two patio over gravel with non-calibrated limestones. Joints we're filled with polymeric sand. Although the results are real good, I would like to build my next one with calibrated stones (I would like to have a more decent level accross the whole patio) and cement. I have two questions : 1- is it ok to have a gravel or sand base and lay the stones with cement like you did on that video ? 2- it seems like it's difficult to find calibrated limestones in my area (Eastern Townships in Quebec, Canada, 1 hour drive north of Vermont). Any links / address I could investigate to find out where to get those ? I know a transport company here that goes regularly to Pennsylvania and come back with limestones (non-calibratred), so maybe I could have a special order... Thanks for your videos. You are a real mentor for me ! I would have never done those projects without what I've learned with your channel.

@MikeHaduck10 жыл бұрын
howdy, no just what your seeing, But to continue on in the mountains of Pennsylvania. we put the joints in at the same time as the base. If not the winter will peel the joins up, and in a few years I would be getting a called back. at 60 years old and doing it sense I was 15, I can not guarantee my work any other way, I understand in other states and area it is a different story. God bless mike

Cutting with the anglegrinder sure makes a lot of dust and that can't be good for your lungs. Why not use a wet cutter? Cutting with water can get messy but at least your lungs will be spared. Its a health and safey issue.

@TheMrBanjocat Hi Mike yes it didn't sound healthy at all. I am also a stone mason here in Australia and I am use to grinders and the noise they make, hence why I made the comment, how are things in the Usa? much work? here we are doing well and very busy big demand for good tradies, anyway take care Mike. regards Jeremy
