I have a roofless concrete deck attached to a block house. It was sloping towards the house. Water was going under the door into the house. Also a huge chuck was missing on one side. I learned about Cement-All by watching Mike's video's. I fixed the slop and the damage, built up the threshold and in stalled a new door. It won't last forever but it's an incredible improvment. Thanks mike for sharing the knowledge.

Nice work. Releveling flat stones is not easy to do. Even here in the south, they say not to lay thin stones outside because of the winters causing crack out. But apparently, we don't know the Mike way to fill it all in at the same time where water won't go under the rock and freeze.

Threshold flush with exterior surface. Shake my head for their wood door. That's ripe for leaves and dirt carrying inside, rain splashing/snow drifting against the door. In 5 years that door will start to rot. And if metal... rust If there's room above, the door should be removed, the header raised to set the door a good 4 inches higher. If the ceiling is 7' - 10 or higher there should be room. If less, shrink the header a bit. More than that use or build a GlueLam Gotta have a step up into the house. The old timer who broke me into carpentry in 1981, a blue blood CT Yankee Mac Taylor age 64, (flew as B17 co pilot over Europe) went to work at age 16 with his builder uncle, who himself had been in it since a kid. So basically the uncle broke in 1920 working with his father who was building late 1800's. He talked a lot about building houses in central Connecticut and they always brought the foundation 3) 8" block above the grade to leave enough room for 3) 6" steps to the stoop and one 6" step into the house, esp with the old timey CT winters he always talked about. "There's nothing worse than opening the door and have a snow drift fall on the hardwood floor," (or something like that) - Mac Taylor. God I miss that man... like the crabby old uncle I never had who was dying to pass on what he knew... like I passed on to the youth who came up from behind me. And thus it has been the pass it down going back to the pyramids with the water that fell on their heads that they used to make their mortar is the same water that falls in our heads and we use for our mortar today. That's a little something conjured in my head while I was passing my masons brick block and mortar as a union tender, 10,000 lbs a day, a job I took for the last dozen of my working years after I broke my wrist and could no longer swing a hammer or handle carpenter tools. The dream of the pyramid builders... stacking stone on a mortar bed, not much has changed. The building trades carry on and regardless forever will

Back in 2008 I was in Brooklyn, new York. Struggling, looking for a job, I was ready to work for $20 a day to bring food to our table. My wife was pregnant with the first baby. Then, the miracle occurred, I met a master in masonry; Josepe di'lorenzo an Italian man with 55 years of experience. I learned a lot from him. I am about to do flagstone on 3 steps and a landing. Hi Mike, I watch your channel daily, it’s amazing and I look at stone work in a new light with appreciation. I have a very slopped property, 1 acre. My question is do you have any suggestion on how I could build a stone retaining wall toward the top of the property without changing the landscape to take an automobile? Maybe you have come across this problem and I was wondering how it can be done. My guess is some kind of track and cables? I want to build a stone building.

Mike. I have a back patio (concrete from 1975) that has settled in Louisiana over the years and cracked in certain spots. I am wanting to turn it into a Mexican Saltillo oasis. However, I don’t think it’s too smart to mortar and tile over concrete that will probably crack and separate more in the future. Do you know of any other options to get the look of Saltillo tile, maybe pavers and place pavers over it? Or would that be a stupid idea?

hey i have a question, how does a copper gas pipping react with a lime rich plaster? (i think it's not plaster but lime rich mortar is more accurate ) i was told it could eat away the copper.
@MikeHaduck4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivan, cement, mortar eats away almost every type of metal, I might take 40 years or more, the plumbers know best, thanks. Mike
@OprichnikStyle4 жыл бұрын
@@MikeHaduck thanks for the tip. Althought i dont think it's the same for steel pipping than bear copper. My house has 100 years and almost all the electrical pipping is still the original made from steel. If it doesn't get in contact with humidity it's fine. About this case I'm asking you for a friend. A mason made the mortar for his wall but he envended the copper pipping, that goes on the corner with the floor, into the mortar And he's worried that he should take it away from the wall.
