This is a beautiful story and shame on those who don't like the "happy ending." I worked in mental health and feel very sorry for your rejection of the happy ending because it really does happen sometimes. That is what HOPE represents. Thanks so much to whoever posted this film. I will always remember it.

I always had a love for Lucille Ball & this is the first time me seeing this. This has to be the most powerful movie I have ever seen. Beautiful ending! I just wish she could have seen her son again but in real life it's not always the case. We need more movies like this. To prove a point & to make a difference. This movie really makes you never want to complain again & be thankful for everything you have. Lucille & Daphne did an outstanding job! We are so use to young, funny, & beautiful Lucy. I liked seeing her play a completely different person. Exactly why Lucy is still so loved in today's world. I will definitely be watching this movie again. Thank you Lucy for the powerful message. We love you!❤️

Thanks so much for posting this I had forgotten the name of it and saw it in a later Lucy interview with Joan Rivers and so glad someone put it on here...one of the all time great endings of a movie ever...I wish more older folks didn't have to live alone...I wish more of them who have homes could rent out rooms to other seniors then they would not be as alone, they'd eat better with more income and the sense of community would be there, heck we have roommates in our college years and in other cultures parents and even grandparents stay in the marital home...I like co living if the house is big enough. My aunt let her kids live on in her house and she got to see her grandchildren grow up right there...the house is on three levels and her husband was gone so I wish more folks could do that through all stages of life...when she's gone they can let their kid's and their grandkids live there too I guess...who says a nest has to become empty?

I saw this movie on TV when it aired originally in 1985. Thanks so much posting it so many of us could see it again. I recall that the ratings were not that high. I guess people like to think of Lucille Ball as a comedy actress. With this role, she really showed her dramatic talents. I wish she had been nominated for an Emmy. She deserved one! Fortunately, she won 4 Emmy awards for "I Love Lucy." Thanks again for this provocative movie!

Thank you for posting this movie!!, and thanks to the screen writer for the nice ending. Lucille Ball always reminded me of my own mother...crusty, gruff, outspoken but with a heart of gold. The 80's was a decade of decadence, disorder, self absorption in its infancy and horrible political leadership. Hence the beginning of the time we live in. This mssg that Lucy gave us regarding the crisis that which is homelessness was amazing. She was the first lady of the comedic screen, that is to say, she led and paved the way, opened so many doors for women in comedy, that to me is why she was so loved and respected. Thats quite a legacy. So i think that we all might wanna try to be a little more compassionate when we're dealing with each other, not just the people who are less fortunate than ourselves. Happy moments in the New Year everybody!!

So that's what happened to Lucy Ricardo. Just kidding lmao. I saw this when it first aired back in '85 on NBC. Such an icon & versatile actress & comedienne Lucy was. No one even comes close! After watching Joan Rivers interviewing her on The Tonite Show inwhich Lucy was talking about this movie, i had to watch it. She did a great job portraying a woman in a truely heartbreaking situation & hopefully raising awareness of overwhelming real life homelessness & the flaws of the "system" that's not certainly not working.

Am glad that this had a happy ending for Florabelle - that she got the home that she needed and deserved. When she knelt in the dirt to embrace it at least 10 years were taken off of her face and she looked radiant. Glad novice social worker Carrie persevered in her efforts to help Florabelle, sadly many in the profession get jaded partly out of self preservation and even to the point of just basically putting in their time to collect a paycheck, benefits and eventually a pension. Lucy did a great job here, showing her adaptness in doing drama even though she's best known for comedy - may she RIP.

So many people complained about this film that Lucille Ball decided to come back to television with Life with Lucy. Stone Pillow was a dramatic work, not comedy, and many had never seen Balls earlier work in drama, and expected comedy. Ratings were not good, but, instead of allowing Lucy to twerk the show, CBS cancelled it after just a few weeks and paid out her contract. CBS...what a bunch of ASSHOLES! Lucy was so hurt, she basically stayed out of the public eye until her death.

This film was so moving...I was teary-eyed at the end! What an awesome performance! Lucille Ball was adept at both comedy and drama! I was riveted while watching this film. It sure gave a bird's eye view of what it is like for the homeless. Next time I see a homeless person I will see in a whole new light. I saw Lucy on the Joan Rivers show after this film was made. She said while she was involved in the film, no one recognized her on the streets! She said it was because the homeless are invisible. This film surely brought that home!!

LOL 1985 - a bygone time. Nowadays you have to encourage Flora Bell to get a job because the US debt is so bad that this 'social security' net is simply not going to be there. The payments will be like the $3.82 Flora carried around should it actually remain intact. It's too bad Lucy isn't here today to 'update' this show for today's audience.
@WinterSteele9 жыл бұрын
A good film overall, but I wish they would've delved more into Florabelle's backstory. A man doesn't just suddenly split town with his small child because he's down on his luck-- if he were that destitute, he likely wouldn't take the kid with him because he'd have no way to financially support him. I get the feeling that there was more to the story than what Flora described, like maybe he actually had a mistress on the side and left with his son to start a new family with the other woman or something.

Well, the script is pretty illogical and melodramatic. In the 1st segment Flora is turning up her nose at evenly moderately stale food and toward the end she's sharing cat food with a cat. She's as tough as nails after living on the street but shrieks in terror when she sees a rat outside the Brooklyn shelter. She runs out of that shelter twice without thinking where to ask where the nearest subway station so she can get back to Manhattan with the few dollars she had. But Always will love Lucy
