Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well! ❤️Thank you so much for watching! I forgot to mention in the video that I dissolved a little salt in the distilled water (before adding the sodium hydroxide). The salt helps the soap harden a bit faster, so I can unmold them sooner/easier. If you're interested in how I used the salt, I put the details in the description box under the video. The soap got a bit thicker than I wanted, and I really wish I'd used more light gray colored soap instead of dividing the colors evenly. I think both would have helped the soaps look more like real rocks. Maybe. LOL I know I'll make more of these because I loved doing the little in-the-pot swirls with each soap. :)

Thanks again, Holly for another great creation but most importantly for so unselfishly sharing all the information. I love the moulds on Amazon. They ship to South Africa but the shipping cost is usually 4 times the price of the item. So it ain't worth it for me. Such a pity though. Stay safe😘💐

Hello, Holly! Your work is amazing! I've heard a lot about individual molds making it harder to keep the heat needed in saponification. What do you think about it? Have you ever had any trouble like this? Thanks a lot for sharing!
@hollysoapmaking3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I find individual molds definitely don't hold heat like a loaf or slab mold and make it more difficult for the soap to go through gel phase (if at all). As a result, saponification will take a bit longer and it can be harder to unmold the soap until they sit for several days. Saponification generally takes 24 to 48 hours, but a non-gelled soap can still be soft and need to sit longer (depending on how much water is used). So, to make sure they gel (faster saponification and harder sooner), I will almost always use an oven process (preheat the oven to it's lowest temp, turn the oven OFF, then place the soap inside and leave over night - leaving the oven light on for about 4 hours). I usually cover the soap with a towel, too, just to hold the heat around the soap. With these rock soaps, I placed them on a steel baking pan to keep them level, covered them with a towel, and placed them in the warm (but turned off) oven.
