I think the word he was looking for was "choreographed". Which I don't have a problem with. If they just ran around up there, they would be bumping into each other constantly. Which would be silly. Some people just gotta nit-pick. Instead of focusing on all the positive elements, he digs down to the bottom of the barrel to try and find something negative. Not cool.

@@stand.and.deliver.5 or technical musicianship. STP is a great band and all, but you can't compare Nirvana, STP, even Soundgarden or AIC, or new bands like the Warning, all of whom are (or were) amazing.... to the concentration this level of speed, precision and technicality demand. Also "playing fast and loose" is part of the Rock n Roll and Grunge swagger, usually, so you seldom see the same level of perfection to the playing (though I will give the Warning credit for indeed being very on point, though nowhere near as technical). I think that is one of the other aspects for me that makes Band-Maid my top Japanese band ( and a top 5 band overall for me, with Lovebites is a very close #2 for Japan), is they manage to combine both aspects pretty damned well.

I just don't get the criticism of their on-stage choreography. They're putting on a show to entertain the audience, which they clearly do brilliantly. I've seen many a Western band include choreography into their performance. Some musicians take this to an almost absured level (e.g. Alice Cooper). Good choreography ADDS to the performance - it doesn't detract from it. I just don't understand what his issue is, especially when he clearly enjoyed the performance.

Rock and heavy metal music is basically musical theater. Growing up with groups like KISS, much of a concert was very well choreographed. In order to have a big stage show complete with lights and pyrotechnics, it needs to be somewhat choreographed, or someone is either going to get hurt or won't be in the correct place for lighting. Nothing pisses off a lighting crew like being unable to find the correct person to spotlight because they are running around with their hair on fire. I was a musician in the 80's, and my band also had a certain amount of choreography that was picked out for certain times with certain songs. The 90's era grunge bands couldn't hold the guitar cases for their 80's rock/metal predecessors. They sounded like bad 80's garage bands. If someone's experience is 90's and later, then they may not understand the theatrical roots of this music genre and the need to have a well-choreographed, well-oiled machine. You wouldn't want to go see a Broadway show that was not choreographed, and many people don't want to go see a band that is not doing the same. If you want to see a group of guys in torn jeans and flannel shirts, there are plenty of bad garage bands all over the world you can probably watch practice for free. I pay to see the show!

With all the esteem, the problem is that it is not appropriate to make the lovebites known to those who have never heard them through this song, which is atypical in their style and moreover it is presented in order to be the spectacular conclusion of a long concert , in order to greet the public with great theatricality. I think that this group should be introduced to those who do not know it through songs that fully represent their creativity and technique, and there are many. Even me, fierce fans of the lovebites, I would have had doubts if I had heard this song for the first time.

The man is the manager of Stone Temple Pilots! I know this band. These bands were formed at the end of the 80s because they originally didn't like classic rock and heavy metal. Just alternative rock. How can a man like that like 80s heavy metal played by young women from Japan? Steve Stewart probably saw women in beautiful dresses for the first time in his life today. I think Joel's choice of this song being an introductory song for Lovebites is simply not a good choice. This song is for those who truly know Lovenbites, and what this song means. So many better initial choices to make, like "Judgement Day", "The Hammer of Wrath", "Set the World on Fire", etc.

He has a point. They are structured. They actually do the same thing today for the same tune as they made maybe 5 years ago. Even the basist do that same thing as the previous basist did. If you look at the older version of "We are united" then you can see everything here made again. It is quite skilled to see this from only one look. This is how Lovebites do it, and I love Lovebites. Maybe I would love Lovebites even more if they surprise us? Who knows? What I think he is missing though is that the main thing with Lovebites is their unearthly skills and their catchy songs. Unfortunately, this song is a bit tricky to use as a first song. Just because there are no very clear solos. This is a feelgood song without any show offs.

This particular song is very structured on stage on purpose. It's the final song of the set and they are giving everyone a "Bow" in a sense, M&M are playing together which they rarely do. Asami going up to put her arm around Haruna. All the ladies coming to their ego boxes for a final bow. And the song is the anthem for the band with the Wolfpack. It's a fun song, but doesn't really show off their massive talent. Far better songs for first impressions would be The Hammer of Wrath, Thunder Vengeance, Set the World on Fire, and of course Holy War. These show off the skills each has.

Any artist that charges $100, $200, $300 for a ticket better bring their A-Game to the show!! No half-assed effort from Japanese artists. The "rock/metal has to be slopy" creed is nothing but an excuse. If your artists are going to charge their fans tons of money for a ticket they better deliver! That's what bands like Lovebites, Band-Maid, Mary's Blood, Nemophila and others do. They prepare themselves and put in the work and it shows when they play live. Korean bands are doing the same. It's time for western bands to follow suit!

That felt pretty random for me, their movement on stage and interactions. I'm sure Asami plans to come to the center when the solo is ending, and you can see her queuing up to do that as the solo finished. For sure, all of that is planned. As this is an encore finisher and an anthem, I'm also sure some things like Asami going to stand behind Haruna was planned. They have done that before in this song. Thing is, you can't fake emotion and have that be and look real, and Haruna was genuinely happy to see Asami. Maybe details like her touching her shoulder were not planned. And then the rest of it, Miyako pointing something out to Midori in the crowd and Midori walking over at that point, Fami having the time of her life, Asami's giggle towards the end. That's not planned. I think thi sis as structured as they get, for reasons due to it being an encore, but the rest is stuff the do in all their other songs naturally, as well as many metal bands in particular - legs on monitors, power stances etc. I found that a very odd comment, but he is saying that looking at a concert encore and not seeing any fo their other performances. Odd too he didn't comment on their skill, but if you don't like a band or genre, then you don't. I won't hold that against anyone. Wouldn't be unusual if he never played an instrument & doesn't sing. A "manager" is not road-crew or instrument-tech or studio-engineer, or even "producer". A "manager" deals with business, money, transactions, contracts & the $ side of logistics & accommodations, possibly some "booking" guidance on what is most monetarily-profitable. A band "manager" is by far the LEAST "musical" and/or "performance" aspect of the existence of any band, a focus the musicians don't want to deal with. I don't need to watch every LOVEBITES reaction... I don't need to watch this LOVEBITES reaction video. I had determined that after reading the first few comments. Skimmed until I read yours. 🐺 dreg👁

Oh yeah!!!! It didn't take long for the opinion of yet another expert to arrive. A whole manager took a few minutes out of his precious time to share a set of trite phrases and clichés. We all know, of course, that managers are great connoisseurs of art. This one is also an expert in choreography, it's a miracle. Who cares what a manager thinks? What does he know about the creative process? His task is to organize tours, book plane tickets, hotels and be a lackey in the service of artists, leaving them to decide how exactly they want to build contact with their audience. And of course, stealthily steal from them. My opinion is that the manager is an unnecessary appendix, without which we can do without. And what next, who will be the next guest and "expert"? Perhaps stage workers: movers, drink deliverers? Or maybe Ozzy's hairdresser? Or the guy who fixed the toilets in the stadium during the Metallica concert. Why not, because they're also involved in the music industry. I've noticed that if the guest is one of the musicians whose fame is long gone, there's such an unconcealed envy in their eyes that it makes me uncomfortable. And there is nothing to be surprised about, most of these "legends" at the peak of their form and career could not play the simplest Lovebites song.

I think if Joel had chosen almost ANY other track, Steve would have a different opinion. But that entire song was about solidarity, so it was very much choreographed to enhance the message. Obviously Joel had know way to know that Steve would find that a turn off going in, but I expect if Steve tried literally any other live track from them, especially the heavier ones like Holy War (which TBH is overplayed by reactors, so kinda was glad he didn't initially, but probably would have made a better impression), MDO, or Set the World on Fire, maybe Steve would see a different side. Or maybe not. Not every band, no matter how good, is gonna appeal to every listener. 🤷‍♂

As much as I like Joel's reactions to the bands, not only Lovebites, he annoys me with his choices to present to his various "friends"... he knows full well that such and such a song may not represent all the talent, but he insists... and the result is not long in coming... "gnashing of teeth" and tutti quanti!

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about the point he was making. He said they played well, so he respected the high level of skill Lovebites brings to their performances. However, what he was commenting on wasn't their ability but the structured nature of this particular song. It seems like a showcase of all the quintessential elements of metal, performed exceptionally well, almost like ticking off a checklist. Given his extensive background in music, I'd guess it's not just skill, but creativity and innovation in a live show that impress him more. There are plenty of other Lovebites tracks that would probably have the originality he was looking for. So hating on him for not being blown away by a single performance is very juvenile.

@@heavymetalrules-ws1ro I felt bad that kids from that era had that music as the soundtrack of their life. The soundtrack of my life included such songs as Renegade, Stairway to Heaven, Free Bird, Carry On My Wayward Sun, Comfortably Numb, Bohemian Rhapsody, Double Vision, Running With The Devil, Crazy Train, Paranoid, Highway Star, Dream On, Flirting With Disaster, etc . . . . That's just a start. Every band playing live needs to choreograph movement on stage to avoid running into each other. What gets me is a person who acknowledges the talent of a band like Lovebites in such a back handed way doesn't understand performance. He should try running around, jumping and sliding in high heels.
