Stone Tower Temple Walkthrough (With Stray Fairies) - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Walkthrough

I recommend getting either a couple Green Potions or Chateau Romani for this temple although neither are necessary. Chateau Romani can be bought from the Milk Bar after 10PM and drinking it will give you infinite magic until you start the 3-day cycle over. The 15th Stray Fairy is the only one that you absolutely have to flip the temple more than once in order to get.
When you're at the part where you have to reflect sunlight off of the two mirrors I recommend wearing the Stone Mask so that the Black Boes leave you alone.
Getting the Stray Fairy where you need to pound on the switch with Goron Link and then roll over to the other switch in time is pretty difficult. The only advice I have is to make sure you don't bump into anything when rolling as that means almost certain failure. Watch where I roll or walk in the video and try to replicate it as best as you can.
To get Stray Fairy #10 the way I do (doesn't work in the 3DS version) you need to, as Human Link, swim into the wall at the water’s surface and while you're still swimming into the wall, put on the Zora Mask. You'll get a little height boost from putting on the mask, allowing you to climb up the ledge.
Mini-boss #1 - Garo Master (9:46): Don't fight him as Deku Link or Zora Link because the fire on his swords will make any hit an instant loss. When he tries to attack you, move out of the way. When he misses and is looking around, quickly move in and Jump Slash him. Immediately hold up your shield when you hit him because he'll counterattack. Keep doing this and you'll get the Light Arrow as your reward for defeating him.
Mini-boss #2 - Gomess (25:01): Firstly, if you got jinxed by the Blue Bubbles in the room before, you can fix it by playing the Song of Storms. Now, the way I recommend fighting Gomess is this: Shoot him with a Light Arrow. This causes all of the Bad Bats to fly away, revealing his weak point. Quickly run up to him and Jump Slash the yellow orb. You need to be quick with the Jump Slash so that he doesn't hit you with his scythe first.
Alternatively, you can shoot him with a Light Arrow to disperse the Bad Bats, dodge his resulting attack by stepping to the side (do so with your shield up just to be safe), and shooting him with either the Hookshot or another Light Arrow. The Hookshot doesn't always hurt him, though.
If at any point you need more magic or arrows then use a bomb or the Blast Mask to kill some of the Bad Bats who'll sometimes drop them.
Boss - Giant Masked Insect: Twinmold (30:22): This battle is very different in the 3DS version so the following advice won't work if that's the version you're playing.
Twinmold has two weakness: their head and their tails. I like using the Spin Attack against them because it's more likely to hit one of their weak spots. Alternatively, you can chase their tails and try to hit them with a vertical swing of your sword.
You can also shoot arrows or the Hookshot at them, but it's pretty difficult to hit them this way. Shooting Fire Arrows at the Blue Moldorm and Ice Arrows at the Red Moldorm will take them out in 4 hits each. Light Arrows do less damage and use more magic so don't use them against Twinmold.
If at any point you need magic then break the columns littered throughout the battlefield either as Giant Link or by getting Twinmold to break them. Usually you'll get some Magic Jars (you can only grab them when normal sized). I've fought Twinmold before and not gotten a single Magic Jar out of the columns, though, which is why it's better to have a Magic Potion.

I agree nothing in this game is straight forward. You have to join a kids gang to get a rare item only to use that item to buy a dudes property so you can use it one time to get on top of a clock tower. That is just the beginning of the game.

This is simply the last video I happened to watch, so I'll leave the comment here. However, I want you to know that, thanks to you and this absolutely wonderful playlist of yours, and after buying the game when it first came out for N64, I FINALLY managed to 100% it last night. I had been using text-based guides before, but yours is much, much clearer and much better overall. Watching you play taught me some tricks I hadn't been able to figure out myself, like rolling before jumping, that trick you used to turn into Zora Link and get out of the water in this video and better ways to tackle some annoying bosses. It's thanks to you that I found a couple of bottles, countless heart pieces, found all the stray fairies and got my Fierce Deity mask too, because I was missing the Mask of Truth the first time I beat the game. So, thank you very much for all your help and for creating such an incredibly detailed guide for us to use. I'd be so lost without you and the absolutely fantastic job you did here!

You're more than welcome! I had a strategy guide for Ocarina of Time and I used it to complete that game, but I never found any such thing for Majora's Mask here. Nintendo has an official website for guides in Spanish (we must suck at games :P), but even that was a tad confusing at times and didn't offer as many tricks and tips as your guide did. @@EmptyGarbageCan the good old days when you had to do that with no internet, but this is considered 50x harder than Ocarina of Time. Getting to each boss wasn’t that hard on Ocarina in real time; if you knew what you were doing, you could easily beat it in one day, meaning not 100%, but I beat that game 100% through in 5 days, which is hard.

@@EmptyGarbageCan It was timed because, when you look at it, you can see that he didn’t get there on time before the fire reset. I would say this is the harder temple. Way harder than the Water Temple. Majora Mask, in my opinion, is harder but with fewer bosses than Ocarina of Time, but it is complex, and even more complex if you can 100% this game to be considered goat status. I beat 100% on Ocarina, which is considered hard. The game itself isn’t hard, but 100% is really hard since you have to find ridiculous hearts. The upgrades, especially the 4th bottle on Espona, and shooting the ghosts are hard, especially since they leave if you don’t hit them fast enough or find where they are. People are complaining about getting Espona when it is actually one of the easiest things to get and not impossible. You waste 50 reputed, which seems high, and at first, when I didn’t know what to do, I was annoyed using the weaker horses, which I didn’t know you could use with Espona. I thought you had to use the other horses to get her. Once I use her, I could run out of those carrots and still be in the lead. It takes literally 5 minutes to do. Otherwise, you will lose 100’s and 100’s on him, but if you do that save when you play him, then turn off your gave where it was saved and start it again, so you will just have your Reuters all reset at where you had them instead of trying to go find some. You have to guest, then there are 10 ghosts flying around making that annoying sound, so finding the last one is hard, and then getting the heart in the graveyard digged up is hard when you can raise a lot of rupees, and the Bow and Arrow upgrade at max at 50 is hard when you have to shoot the bottles on Espona, getting 1,000 for a heart but 1,500 for the maxed out. I'm going to get Majora Mask next, though, and beat the whole game 100%. I just have to hope I get lucky with a good-condition one with no scratches that plays amazing. Ocarina of Time looked brand new for $72, which is well worth it since it is considered the best. Ocarina of Tome was considered one of the hardest when it first came out since they had no interest really back then to guide you on things, especially the Watwr Twmple, which I hate going from the steer boots to normal boots. They should honestly make an Ocarina of Time 2. I can't believe in 1998 they had like 11 bosses.

Dude, you helped me so stupidly much, really. I was streaming this on Twitch and ran out of time in the 3 day cycle. (I had gotten through like 85% of the dungeon too) So, I decided to re-do it up to the point of the Boss Fight off stream. This made my life SO MUCH easier. Especially, because I had no plans to get all the stray fairies. So now, my content will be great AND I get a kickass sword? You rock. Recommending you to anyone that streams this game.

Since this seems to be a more popular walk through channel we all know they make it look easier than it actually is so if this isn't something you haven't found yet in the lava room with the fire switch it only gives you a few seconds Pound the big switch with goron mask take it off put on zorra or Duku mask walk into lava killing yourself When you respond put goron mask back on and you will be able to walk to the switch to activate it (glitch)

That room where you get stray fairy 3 and 4 is very precise. Those mirrors absorb light for a mere few seconds and those enemies don't make it any easier. I'd say that is by far one of the toughest rooms in Stone Tower Temple. That and the lava floor switch Goron Link has to reach with precise rolling.

This temple gave me a lot of trouble as a kid. I followed a strategy guide religiously to get through the temple and collecting all the stray fairies. Now, I have no problem going through it. I actually like how this temple is designed. It puts all of your skills to the test and has one of the coolest ideas for a dungeon in that you have to flip it upside down to complete it.

I've beat this game so many times and never knew you could blow a hole in the courtyard which allows light into the room with lava. I always used a bombchu to go over the light block in the room with lava to kill the last two status and get the key. I only discovered that by accident as a kid and thought that was the only way to beat this temple. Ive been doing it wrong for so many years lol

Ice arrow platform then sun arrow underwater Zora fairy chest. North tunnel, west side Link/Zora wall cimb, light arrow sun block fairy chest. Soaring exit, right switch elegy, light arrow flip. Chest fairy, right door, light arrow sun block. Deku across chest fairy, left flight elegy Link switch, straight across flight to top fairy chest. Jump straight across, switch and key chest, fly left to key door. The Stone Tower. The Canyon area was always my favorite portion of this game. But until a couple of years ago I never paid much attention to the details surrounding it. Or even looked into its history. Truth be told when first I first saw those stone blocks I didn't realize it was a tongue. I never saw what was on the underside. Looked vaguely like a wolf spider's face to me 🤣 But reading up on its history and some of the designs on the temple, not to mention the allegory, I've always wondered how Nintendo put their stamp of approval on it. Oh, and the bottom of the block clearly shows that tongue licking a Triforce. Which is clearly an act of blasphemy. Yowsa.

I used to freak out every time I had to figure out this temple until the day when I decided not to collect any stray fairies. The dungeon then became so easier that started to suck for me. From a torture to a complete cakewalk.

2:00 So I didn't actually blew up this roof in my playthrough (didn't know u were supposed to do that) instead just threw a bombchu in the next room and accidentally killed the statues behind the sun block and just continued the temple without a map up until I got the light arrows, then I returned to this room and got rid of the block with a light arrow to get the map. I knew it wasn't how I was supposed to do it cuz it was kinda stupid so this is actually pretty funny and also pretty cool that there are multiple ways to beat the puzzles in this game that the developers probably didn't think of.

That part is tricky. It's possible to make it while rolling the entire way to the switch, but it's more difficult which is why in the video I opted to roll only part of the way. I don't really have much advice other than keep at it & you'll eventually succeed.

In the room where you have to blast with a bomb the ceiling so that light gets through, on my first playthrough I never figured that out, but managed to get past the room by sending bombchu across the lava to the armos behind the sun block. Killing them and making the chest appear with the key (if my memory is right). Haven't been able to do it again. Now I'm playing the original TLOZ and I'm blasting my way through the dungeons with bombs. It should be called Zelda souls. Jesus.

I beat the 3DS version of this with no guide, playing the N64 version has me stumped and I don’t know if I either got dumber or the N64 version is different

There are a ton of changes between the N64 and 3DS versions as a whole. It's been a while since I've played the 3DS version so I don't remember how different the Stone Tower Temple is, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were multiple changes to that temple in particular.

@@EmptyGarbageCan The most notable one was the lack of a visual to bomb the one area in the armos room . . . I got so lost there. All in all I needed the guide for three things; The Armos room light, checking how many stray fairy’s you should have before first flip, and the final small key. The only other thing that I am confident was different was the time on the goron switch stray fairy, that switch was way more lenient on the 3ds version from what I remember.

I don’t understand how you did the deku jump room with the lava… I’ve been trying to do it for like 20 minutes and you just did it facing half backwards… make it make sense 😭

Haha, yeah that was pretty lucky. I remember when I filmed it I couldn't believe I made it like that. I kind of didn't want it in the video because it is a difficult part and it doesn't show it off really well, but I left it in anyway. Anyway, the thing about flying as Deku Link is that you fall once you reach a certain range from the Deku Flower/whirlwind and not after a certain amount of time (besides your gradual descent over time). It's also not based on the path you take to get to that range or how close you are to the ground. You might notice in the video that I hold the Z-button when flying to lock the camera. This makes flying in a particular direction easier. Because it's the range you are from the Deku Flower/whirlwind that makes you fall that means you're basically guaranteed to fall before you reach the last whirlwind so you'll need to fall directly into it. To succeed at this you'll need to be high enough in the air which does depend on how fast you get to it because of the slow descent over time. As such taking as much of a direct route to the last whirlwind is best. I prefer to go through the little hole in the structure where the Bombchu is. This of course is risky because you might touch the Bombchu, but it's the most direct path. Besides, if you do touch it then it will blow up and won't be a problem anymore.

The mirrors are all about rhythm. Use the mirror shield until the enemies approach then kill the two enemies quickly and use the shield on the next thing of light.

@@thomasburgerking102 Usually it takes those enemies a while to get to you and you can charge the mirror by then. Then all you have to do is quickly kill the enemies and move onto the next thing of light and then reflect it on to the sun block. You can definitely do it your way but you have to be either very quick or kill the enemies twice. Also I think your way might be better if you don't have a Glded sword because if you can't kill those enemies quickly its best to do it the way you were saying and go through the mirrors quickly before they respawn.

Just wear the Stone Mask, that way, the enemies won't attack you :)

No. Not only will Deku Link be burned from being near the fire (landing in the center probably won't make a difference) and promptly sent back to where you were last on land, but he probably wouldn't be heavy enough to push the switch down anyway.

@@EmptyGarbageCan I have finished the temple with all the stray fairies, and saved, but I am still curious, okay so obviously if you couldn't get burned, you could then switch into a while you are standing on the activated switch as a goron, zora, or human and the fire runs comes back, (obviously the chest will be available but that's beside the point) would you get burned and get knocked back, or will there wil enough room inside the circle (I know this is pointless to know but I just wanna know this anyway)

@@StoMoComedoPro I'm going to say you get burned because the developer's would want to prevent people from glitch pressing the switch. What this means is, while visually the fire is only a circle around the switch, effect-wise the entire switch is essentially on fire.

How do you wear it anywhere without transforming?

Besides this video is already over 30 minutes long so I really didn't want to make it any longer. Thus the separate videos.

You can shoot it when the temple is inverted. There is no water then. It will be in the room with the 3 large air vortexes. You can get a glimpse of the Sun Switch at the upper left at 17:53 to get an idea for where it is. The chest will be upside down, however, so you'll need to put the temple right-side up to open it.

At 4:19 I swim into that same room while the temple is normal (i.e. not inverted) & step on a switch that is on the ground & surrounded by 3 mines. Stepping on this switch causes that chest to appear.

The video is already over a half hour long and I didn't want to make it longer by adding something that doesn't have anything to do with actually finding where the Stray Fairies are. Plus I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who might have wanted help finding the Stray Fairies, but wanted to look for the Great Fairy on their own. I figured if anyone wanted help finding the Great Fairy then they could watch the video I made specifically for that.
