@LilacMonarch8 ай бұрын
@@humantwister9209 It started with people noticing seemingly random things happening occasionally, like a door suddenly appearing in midair for some reason. Eventually it was figured out that it had to do with the way things are unloaded and then found ways for the player to do that, and used emulator memory viewers to study it and figure out how to get the game to execute the code you want. It helps that there's a decompilation project in the works so the code is pretty well understood at this point

I’ll never get how people figure out the random, specific crap that’s required to do glitches like the one to get in the moon from Deku palace
@skulblaka96511 ай бұрын
It's done using ram manipulation that's only possible on emulators. Basically by watching the code move in real time. Essentially, wizardry.
@IndigoTeddy11 ай бұрын
@@skulblaka965 in this case, the specific Moon Warp setup he performed works on all versions though, with some alterations to the setup here and there. But yeah, having an emulator at hand (or a modified version of the game that allows you to display memory addresses) helps discovering what SRMs work, and how to do them fast.
@darklink230011 ай бұрын
that is done by using SRM (stale reference manipulation) which the simplest explanation I have is basically by doing the glitch to pick up the invisible pot you can alter the location of where the deku guard throws you by using a stale reference (a number in memory that has not been updated properly) to overwrite the map data on where the deku guard sends you after getting caught and therefore sending you to any desired location as long as you can find out how to manipulate the memory in such a way that it aligns with the map data, all of which is done via emulator where you can watch specific memory addresses in realtime as they update which makes the process of discovering the glitch possible if tedious.
@MugiwarasNakama9 ай бұрын
@@skulblaka965 This is an incredibly false statement. Emulation does not change the code of a game. ACE (arbitrary code execution) is an exploit that is possible in ANY game past present and future. All you need to do is find a way to manipulate the RAM allocation of a game to execute custom code. This is infinitely difficult in modern games since modern game's use up an insane amount of memory to run so most any custom code you run would just cause a crash. But in older games where the memory economy of programs was pitifully limited it's insanely easy to write code that can enable you to do nearly anything. All you need is to find a way to glitch the game into a state where your inputs control the code being written into memory. After that it's just a matter of working whatever values you want into memory and finding a method to execute your code.
@skulblaka9659 ай бұрын
@@MugiwarasNakama Yes and figuring out how to do that is done by inspecting ram in an emulator. As I said.
