Does he realise his work will be around for hundreds of years after he's gone?. That's insane to think about.

@@AstrixCloudhe's literally cut worn sections out of centuries old cathedrals and put in replacement pieces he made. Absolutely stunning to think cathedrals are now centuries old mosaics of thousands of such repairs and refurbishments. He's part of a huge thousand year old chain of workers. Just don't tell him all the technical skills he learned are Byzantine by way of France in origin hehe

Charlie, the heartfelt and creative marks that you inscribe on our ancient monuments will bear testimony to your talent for an eternity. Thank you! Good to see this craftsmanship is still being kept alive in Europe. I did a 4 year apprenticeship as an Organ builder. Everything was done by hand. Unfortunatly our main customer (the Catholic church) decided to go with cheaper options abroad...cheaper being nothing is really handmade by a craftsman and all done by machines. My company went broke and so did my job! Keep up the good work Charlie...bet your old mans proud

I am a mason of some time but haven’t been on the tools for over 30 years - this takes me back I can tell you. Well done - it will live with you forever even if like me you come off the tools. Great skill and obviously a great teacher in the background somewhere. 👏👏👏👏👏

I did my apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker in the 70's I'm still working past my retirement . All my skills have been replaced with computer plasma, laser and water cutters. It warms my heart to see someone so young with such skill in a trade that still uses the same tools and procedures that are thousands of years old. Respect to Charlie and his trade

I’m a former tattooer of over 20 years and after putting down my irons and carpel tunnel surgery, arthritis and back issues I now train dogs professionally but identify with the notion of “no do overs” as with tattoos you can’t take it away as in stone masonry you can’t put it back. Your skills are amazing at your age, I have wondered how long you apprenticed for and what amazing work you’re going to be doing 10, 20 or more years from now! I have watched all of your videos several times and it’s simply sublime. I agree with the others that have asked for more videos if possible. Cheers!

Kid, keep doing this. I enjoy stone Mason videos. Especially hand carved with hammer and chisel. Believe it or not, asmr, scientifically speaking, can relieve physical pain. It's easy searchable. I'm in recovery from surgery, and the medication helps with the pain, but watching stone Mason videos and even wood carving are helping significantly.

Great workmanship. I have done a lot of stonework, a large variety, over many decades, it is always very rewarding, more of a craft than simply a skill. We’ve just put in a quote for a feature wall. In Dallas, there is an existing which was constructed in the recent past and its probably the worst job I’ve ever witnessed. Although saying that we carried out remedial work on random rubble wall that was built in the 1600’s, they must have been gassed when they built, unbelievably abysmal. Charlie, wear a mask or an Airstream type helmet you will get pulmonary disease or worst, in the old days Quarry men (extracting sandstone), rarely made it past their 40’s, silicosis killed them.

How does he get surfaces so flat? I'm assuming someone such as myself with not an hour of hard labour would end up making flat surfaces uneven or wonky. I get he has a template but its not like he's using a level every 3 seconds, is it just experience and feel? Or is there some kind of teachable way to get stone that perfectly level?
