My issue was a Colt M-16A1 made in 1980 then when I got to my permanent home unit (28th I.D. Scouts)it was the CAR.

I didn't realize the M16A1 was in production into the early 80's like that. Which one did you prefer?

Yea, Colt pumped out A1’s until the A2 official became issue, My CAR was an A1 also, And I did like the CAR version much better ‘cause I’m a short dude so humping in the field and quick shoulder fire was real easy.And all A1’s still had a Full Auto mode not that burst fire which was being issued to mostly regular units, I was in the Guard.
