For those of you thinking about building a shop and installing a lift, you should probably get the information on the footprint of the lift and layout the floor thickness accordingly.

I've looked up several and even the higher capacity lifts say 4" concrete a minimum of 3000psi. I'm looking at the 11,000 lb lift and it has the same concrete specs for mounting.
@denniscleveland669
@denniscleveland669 Жыл бұрын
@@3gunshooter60 Just be careful, because I’ve seen several times where they’ve busted out a big chunk of the floor and tipped over. I’m sure that having an off centered distribution of weight doesn’t help. If that 11,000 pounds is distributed over two plates that are 16”x16”, that’s max for the 3000 pound per square foot concrete. Now, if it’s off center, that 11,000 pounds is suddenly on way less than 2 square feet. It adds up very quickly. And as the tipping begins, it escalates even further.

I helped my neighbor put up 2 of those lifts, a 9 ton and a 12 ton. Me an electrician, him a retired roustabout company owner. Used my 1025r with loader and we're 67 and 70 yrs old with many medical conditions. But we got em down, but my neighbor got the wrong breaker. I caught it when I took it out of the sack. The ones we mounted looked alot heavier built than the one you got. All the cables ran overhead no beam on the floor, easier to sweep and clean around. Supply issues really suck now. The safety shut off went across the top so if the vehicle roof just barely touched the cable it stopped. It went up high enough you could drive a car under it. He stored a 56 Chevy bel air on top and a 59 corvette below. The vette is for sale all original and numbers match ,convertible of course. 55 is still being put together, frame up restoration on it, highly customized from the ground up, running a 900 hp big block.

I used to install automotive lifts, compressors, and build gas stations, you skipped torquing down the anchor bolts. also you will want to re-torque the bolts each month for the next three months and after that they are checked once a year along with removing the cover or drive over plate to remove any debris. you will have to bleed your cylinders and adjust your locks once you get power. not sure the size or weight capacity you chose but remember a 10,000lb lift does not mean it should be lifting that. you have to take into account the arms and carriage as well. the hydraulics might lift it but the steel will fatigue over time. if you ever get another two post lift look into an Asymmetric with extended columns. this will allow the columns to be turned out allowing you more room to open the doors of vehicles wider to get in and out and the extended columns more lift hight due to you being taller. I like Rotary or Challenger for the money in two post lifts. if you ever need parts check out SVI international hoist company. hope this helps

Josh when drilling concrete for anchors drill all the way through the concrete in case you ever needed to move or replace your lift you can knock the anchors all the way through so you don't have to cutoff your anchor. I'm talking from experience installing heavy machines for textile companies around NC,SC AND Virginia great video.
@scottnunya1
@scottnunya1 Жыл бұрын
That could be a problem on thinner slabs. When the bit exits the other side, the concrete spalls off creating a thinner cross section at the anchor bolt.
@BigTader
@BigTader Жыл бұрын
@@scottnunya1 The concrete floors I would normally work on was 10" to 12" thick and some 8" and I've never had any problems but on a 4" slab of concrete without fiber yes it could possibly cause a problem.

I'm happy that the lift I ordered (9000Lb capacity) is a clear floor, and with a 13ft ceiling, and extra heavy concrete for this, that my contractor poured for this, I should be set! The question is, without a fork truck, is it possibel to get it off a freight truck? (maybe undo the plate on the bottom and pull the arms out of the cavity, possibly?)
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 8 ай бұрын
YOU NEED FORKS TO GET IT UNLOADED....LONG FORKS!! We had to unload with the lift gate and the forks on my tractor...you won't get it off unless you have a forklift or tractor with pallet forks
@jerryhubbard4461

You mentioned fiber in the concrete. I hope you have a mat of re-enforcement steel in that concrete. Fiber is for cheap concrete like sidewalks or house slabs most times using 2500 psi or 3000 psi concrete. Sure hope that concrete over time will support that heavy lift with vehicles on it.

Pretty sure you can't tighten the cables all those do is adjust the cables so that the arms are at the same height the half inch tension you're feeling it should just be the weight of the arm on the opposite side. I've been wanting to get a lift for a long time but I want to get one where the cables go overhead so that the two towers can't collapse in on each other if the floor anchors give away. Or if I end up with a lift with the cables going underneath I mean those are probably more affordable then I think I would anchor the top posts of the lift to the rafters of the building I'm super paranoid lol.

so for those of you that want to install your own lift like this...... PLEASE RE-THINK IT!!! I have been a Master automotive technician for the last 30 years, and I've seen my fair share of lifts that fail over the years, one almost killed me. PAY THE MONEY TO HAVE A LIFT INSTALLATION COMPANY PUT IT IN, YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT! you are in essence balancing 4000-6000 lbs of weight over your head, and some expansion bolts and the strength of your concrete are all that's between you and death. the lift company can inspect the concrete, bore a test hole to check thickness and gauge it's strength, and has the correct tools/drills/jigs/leveling shims/procedures and the correct size/length/strength expansion bolts to do the job, and when i had a lift installed in my home shop, it was a few hundred dollars for them to assemble and install the lift- well worth the money. also you are also supposed to check the mounting bolts every few years to check that they aren't pulling out. last: you will really regret not getting a balance cables over the top style lift. that plate at the bottom is a pain in the arse if you ever have to pull a transmission. why in the hell would you ever want a tripping hazzard at your feet when under a lift? The clear area under the lift is well worth the extra expense. also the top bridge that goes between the towers at the top also helps keep them from tilting in at the top when loaded. lastly, ROTARY LIFTS FOR THE WIN! again, you have thousands of pounds of weight over your head, why skimp out? Rotary lifts have been around for a long time, and they have replacement parts for lifts that are even decades old. and that safety catch release on each side is a crappy way to do it, they should have one release handle that un-latches both safety's on each side and that will reset the latches if say you release it half way down.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I understand man I've been married ten years to the same woman and she's got in her head several times that the grass might be greener on the other side and she's not gone too long before she figures it out but the last time she came back I made it very clear I wasn't riding the Rollercoaster anymore and the next time the door closed on her there would be no coming back.

welp sorry stoney but you installed it incorrectly. the power unit goes on the right so you can get out set the driver side rack go to right side set that rack and voila the pump is right there. "least amount of steps"

Drill all the way through the slab. Eventually, you'll want to replace that cheap Chinese lift with a proper ALI certified one. When you do, you'll want to drive those anchors through the slab into the dirt below. I'd never let my sons or wife work underneath a cheap lift. There are lifts MADE IN the USA. I lift my 3/4 ton Ram diesel truck on my two post lift. The weak spot on those cheap Chinese lifts are the arm-to-carriage connection, as well as the crappy plastic sliders and wire ropes. That lift looks like a toy

yep....100% guarantee that parts of your lift are made in China....just like everything else these days. I had a buddy that just put in an "American made Lift" .....I took him and showed him the Chinese parts all over it. Show me a 100% American Made product with moving parts and I'll buy it brother

Not going to be fun pulling a transmission...... overhead cable is the way to go. You have an audience of knowledge, use it.

again...4 post lift goes in next buddy...so that would be the transmission removal area if need be..but you do make a good point....although I can't listen to the audience after the fact brotha

How to install an affordable automotive lift ! Hmmm..have to afford a $100k+ building to put it in first maybe...ouch. Interesting video otherwise. Kinda like amazing tips/tricks if you have the $220k metal shop to do it in to save pennies.

Many people have these Tuxedo lifts in their home garages. Don't need a $100K building to own one.
