STOODY GOOD! Best anvil repair rod ever! Preheat to 450 hundred Fahrenheit. Air cool. Reheat to 750 f or so and peen! Water quench. Lasts 4 ever!

Stan Ervin, question if i may? I get the preheat to 450 n cool. Now question is do you weld surface hot at 750...or weld then heat? Do you pein surface heated or after the quench in water? Sorry complete newby here but i do know some things must be welded heated or hot up to 1500/1800 f and blanketed too cool. Guess i grasp the concept your saying just unclear on the exact steps? Thank you for sharing your knowledge w us! 😁 Blessings abundant sir, Crawford out 🧙♂️

I repair my Peter Wright anvil face over 20 years ago and it is still going strong. One additional step I used is to reheat the anvil after grinding and then burying overnight in vermiculite to allow the face to stress relieve.

There are 2 types of rod, both made by Stoody. One is a hard facing rod, the other has a lower rockwell hardness and is what I used to re attach the face of my anvil that was separating. It's been a couple years and there is no sign of a crack.

I took a welding class in college in 1984, a Stoody rep spent part of a day with us, and that made a lifetime customer out of me. I use Stoody Self Hardening (SHIP) on my spudder well drilling bits, with excellent results.. Once I ran short finishing a bit, a friend gave me some Brand X. Brand X was about as abrasion resistant as 6013.

I'd honistly like to see you make a series of videos of projects JUST using that resurfaced anvil./ swage... I an curious to see how it holds up, and the swage uses. If it is something you are planning to sell in quantity I'm sure I can't be the only person wanting to see it used (multiple times) and put through its paces..

for filling in pits or fixing edges I was going to tig weld with s7 filler rod because of its impact resistance. Have you heard of doing this and if you have would you rather tig weld with s7 or use stoody rod?

You're videos are a godsend sometimes mate. Where can i get a video of you making that anvil id love one. Its hard to find a decent workable good size anvil here in Oz. There hard to come by here bloke. If you do find one there a decent tonne in weight. Would love to even have someone maybe direct me to a how to or where to get something i can make homemade. Where would you by a cheap reliable anvil for beginning
@bradleynance88105 жыл бұрын
Luck. Luck is about the only way to come across an inexpensive, decent quality anvil. Your best bet is an Estate sale, or auction. I've seen anvils go for as little as $1.50 a pound, which is a steal! (This was not at an auction) Keep your eyes and ears open, ask questions or talk about anvils/blacksmithing. Mostly people approach during Fairs, Demos and the like. They will have tools and equipment from Grand Dad, and they just want it out of their life. Also, if there is an organization or club in your area, that is a great place to start. Get involved with other smiths. Mostly they are hoarders, lol, but it puts you into contact with people of similar interests. They key here is to make contacts. If all else fails, I would start with a farriers anvil. They are smaller, thus cheaper. I think Centaur forge (www.centaurforge.com/NC-70-lb-Short-Sugar-Anvil/productinfo/18SUGAR/) has a 70lb farrier's anvil for around $300; Not "cheap" but less expensive than $1,200 for a 200 pounder. Best of luck to you.

Roy, watching you wire brush that was painful. Get you a wire wheel for an angle grinder. No chipping needed, cleans better, and much faster.

Jared Russell hey dude! 😁 What are your thoughts on welding the surface of this lil anvil? I saw what Roy pinned to top. Understand the concept. Unclear as to the steps as stated. My welder guy says he hates hardfacing as fumes are dangerous and its hard to grind flat. His idea is lay on 7018 then lay on nickle55 on top n be done....or go with a hard stainless rod overlay. Idk tbh im not a welder. Just dont want to screw my new toy (lol) from the get go. So i figured id get your 2cents on it too Blessings your way sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️
@veteranironoutdoors83205 жыл бұрын
Daniel Crawford what he stated isn’t a hard face per se, it’s a wear surface. And as far as the fumes being dangerous, only if you’ve been welding with it all morning in an unventilated shack. But that’s true of any arc rod.
@danielcrawford73155 жыл бұрын
@@veteranironoutdoors8320 thank you. My welder guy has the 1600 power hood so he will be more safe. So what Roy is saying would be better?? Than the 7018 and stainless topping
