it's supposed to look natural. It's supposed to look like real life. Practicing too much in front of a mirror and then, seeking to duplicate the best aspects of your mirrored performance, is counterproductive to your goal as an actor. This became a rule to live by for Konstantin Stanislavski.🥰🥰🥰

Love your advice! I'm 22 and throughout my life, I've always had subtle hints at wanting to be an actor, but always kind of pushed it aside. It wasn't until recently that I decided to pursue acting. Me personally, I would like to start off with voice acting before I think about doing on-screen acting since I am camera shy. I don't want to be a famous actor, just a successful one. And I would like to be the first in my family to be an actor. I think if any movies or shows that sparked my interest in acting would be 1917, Peaky Blinders, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash, American Werewolf In London, etc. I really don't want to tell my family about my pursuits, mainly because I feel like they will not like the idea. So, until I one day get booked for a role in whatever show or movie, no matter how big or small, I will keep it a secret.

I'm here because I'm an English professor and thought I should try acting lessons because I practice all my lectures several times beforehand and still don't think I nail it or hold my students' attention. First off, I want to commend you for the invaluable help you provide for those of us working to get our feet off the ground with our acting career. No matter how many times you hear this, you'll never truly know how useful your videos are. Now then, onto the meat of the message. I consider acting to be an art form. I know there will be times when I'm so dialed in to my character, the transition back to my real self will be a rough one. It's common for artists to feel a sense of loneliness after they've given birth to their creation(s). Have you ever felt lonely after shooting a project? I think an artist's life by design is a lonely one. I really hope you answer this question to the best of your ability (as well as anyone else whole feels the inclination to do so themselves), because I want to participate in "heavy" material with substance. As an aside, once I reach your level, I'm gonna apologize to the entire crew beforehand for any less than desirable behavior I exhibit in between takes during the shoot. Most people think Christian Bale is an absolute prick for going off on that dude on set, but I'm pretty sure it was largely a reflection of his commitment to the role and his immersion into both the role & story. Patience isn't exactly my strong suit (I've gotten tremendously better at it though), so it's not at all impossible for me to lose my temper of something that might seem innocuous to the average person, especially if it's a project I wrote. Looking forward to your input and I wish you much success. Aside from your talent and dedication, your affability is gonna do nothing but open more doors for you. I have other questions like this, but this is the one I wanted to tackle first.

I use my iPhone in “selfie “ setting. I suggest getting a remote to start recording and stop recordings. Most importantly, before you begin, cover the screen. (Making sure not to cover the camera.) If you don’t cover the screen with a handkerchief, washcloth or piece of paper, you might as well be using a mirror. I now use Filmic Pro app and Filmic Remote. Thanks Kurt.

Hey! I hope everything is fine with you, I have all my life been wanting to become an actor. Although I have never really tried, but recently I thought why not give it a shot. After watching your videos I have been inspired into really wanting to give it a try. I have been trying to find some acting courses. Although the closest once are about 8 hours away from me, which won’t really work. So I was thinking about online courses, is that something you would recommend? Is it worth doing? Otherwise I do not really know where to begin. Hoping you might see this, but I wish you a good day and a Happy New Year!
@minhee734

Hi! I've been taking some online acting classes after a year of in school acting class and I think it just depends of the teacher you get to work with and their technique. You could hate some online classes with one teacher because they don't know how to teach online, or you could totally love it because you had a teacher that adapted their class for online learning. But having online classes are, to my opinion, better than no class. Also, when having online courses, you get to be really comfortable since you're staying at your place. You don't deal with stress. That's both good and bad because when you are in front of people in real, there's a lot more stress involved so offline classes can definitely help to get used to stress and also use it in your favour instead of struggling with it. Because you can't be in the same room and interact the same way with people, I feel like online classes helped me a lot to listen to my partners and read through their facial expressions, as well as focus on my preparation (what do I do before the scene to prepare myself for a specific emotion). We did a lot of exercises about this in my online class and I think that's pretty cool. Overall, I think you should take online classes if it's your only option, but if there are some amateur theatre clubs in your area, I think that would help a lot to go as well, just to experience what it is to interact physically with your scene partners. You get to learn a lot from this. Also the good thing about online classes is that you can learn with any teacher and from any technique you want. For exemple it's really hard to find offline Meisner classes outside of the US (I currently live in Canada) so having online classes and being able to get familiar with the Technique is pretty cool. :)
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 2 жыл бұрын
Agree with the previous comment. The one thing I would add is to make sure you're taking an INTERACTIVE online class. There are many Masterclass style online courses that are basically prerecorded videos for students to watch without any interaction. You need a class that is on Zoom or another interactive platform that allows you to perform and get critiqued by the teacher. Prerecorded videos serve a purpose and can be very useful but they should be treated more like reading a book than working in a class.

@@ActingCareerCenter thanks a lot for the answer. I am from a Non-English speaking country, meaning that English isn’t my primary language. Would you recommend to do English courses or that doesn’t really matter? Have found out that there aren’t a lot of Swedish courses(I am from Sweden). And if so, is there any specific English online class you would recommend? Thanks again for the help, appreciate it a ton!😊
@minhee734

@@eriklindroth hi hi me again 😂 I am originally from France an my native language is french. Acting in english when it's not your native language is not easy so I would recommend to get some accent lessons. I used to have an accent coach back in France and I definitely have to get one here in Canada so you can sound like a native when you play. I know Swedish people don't have a strong accent but it's still there! Going back to your question, if you want to act in english, take classes in english. It will really help for many reasons but mainly because you get the subtleties of the language. We don't express anger the same way depending of the language for example. This said, of you feel more comfortable learning in Swedish first, do however you feel. If you want to act in Sweden, maybe it would better to take classes in Swedish (for the same exact reasons above) Ultimately I think it's up to where you want to go with your career :) I'm taking classes in english and I've been super lucky to be able to move here in Canada because this is in this direction I wanna go with my career. I tried the french industry and my guts told me to go somewhere else and I'm glad I did it. So follow your guts and don't be scared to try new things and go on new adventures! The only warning I could give you -and I think most non native speakers who are famous in America/UK will agree with me- this path ain't easy because we are foreigners (ask yourself, do you have a lot of famous korean actors in swedish movies?) but not impossible so go for it if you want to ✨ I hope you will find your own path and find joy in acting -because that's what matters!

Happy New Year, Kurt! Magicians have been wrestling (sparring?) with this argument for decades. I agree with being Anti-Mirror. That's why I prefer in person interviews instead of zoom or teams interviews. I feel more self conscious that I can see myself while talking to someone else and it can be distracting. I feel I can be more present in person and it's almost less stressful because I'm not seeing myself out of the corner of my eye.

The only thing you can do: Choose which one and do it ASAP so the casting director can find a replacement.

Make sure both productions know of your scheduling conflict immediately. If they cannot adjust the schedule, then you will have to choose one and decline the other.
