They do early announcements for purely financial reasons. Helps with getting loans, other investments, and keeps the stock price inflated if they have one.

I just recently was reminded that the Elder Scrolls 6 teaser trailer came out 6 years ago by a comment on the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 reveal trailer. KCD2 was revealed 2 days ago, and is slated to release this year. A comment on this reveal trailer mentions something along the lines of, "Good on Warhorse for revealing a game 6 months ahead of release as opposed to 6 years" and a reply to that comment mentioned Elder Scrolls 6, so I looked it up and sure enough, TES6 was revealed 6 YEARS ago. That actually took me off guard, because I could have sworn it hasn't been that long but I guess I was wrong.

I would totally agree with you conclusions if players and developers where the only two parties in the equation. But fact of the matter is that they aren't and investors are the reason why games are being announced so far ahead. They want to see what they are investing in. They don't want to give you money and hope for the best. They need something. Both for them and for them to know that people are getting excited for it. For them to know that they are investing in something tangible. Also that the brand is in people's minds and is staying relevant.

I never took the Elder Scrolls VI teaser as a game reveal. Sure it actually was. But for me I knew it was more of them telling us after Starfield is launched we`ll be working on TES6. That info could have been passed as a simple press release or tweet. But at the time because it was E3 Todd thought it would be cooler to show a landscape and logo rather than him saying on stage after Starfiledd TES6 come. That's why I'm personally not frustrated or angry that its taking that long because that was the idea all along. Now I totally understand why some people didn't see it that way. And I don't blame them not everyone follows BGS as I do so that teaser for them was the game is gonna be out not in a long time but some time. This obviously wasn't the case because when the TES6 teaser was shown it was at the announcement of Fallout 76. That was before even Starfield was out. Now, for example, the new Fable game trailer they shouldn't have shown that to us because it wasn't indicated in any way that it would take a long time to release

I made the same comment that this video is making: STOP ANNOUNCING GAMES EARLY I made it on the steam forums and of course I just got a bunch of "jester" badges for it (basically down votes) Announcing games early sells pre-orders.. and the same people giving me jester badges or not up voting this video are the ones who keep buying the pre-orders despite over a decade of evidence that that is not a good thing to do. It won't stop.
