Great tip - worth check every few months. Our older Bosch washers had a mechanical dial so that didn't reset! We have a full house softener so that helps a lot with heating elements all round.

Hey, I have got a Siemens dishwasher with an Integrated heat pump. Water is not heating up, I checked resistance across the heating element, it reads 19.5 ohms. What could be the issue?

19.5 ohms sounds about right. There isn't much in the circuit. So it could be the safety cut out thermostat or the power relay on the controller board or the thermistor that is embedded on the heating element that monitors the water temperature. (Could be signalling to the controller that the water is hot when it is in fact, stone cold), Trace the wires back and make sure that you have no roasted or loose spade connectors (very common). Check the controller for burned or scotched tracks and solder joints.

From my invesitgation it seems the element is available separately although not much cheaper than the Pump complete assembly including a new element.

Hi, our Bosch series 6 DW is failing to heat up. I discovered a piece of plastic film covering the heat pump impellers which I removed and tried to use the machine again but it still fails. I noticed a slight blackened surface on one of the terminals on the connector with the earth wire synonymous with burning. Would you suggest a new part to replace it? Great video btw!

Check the power wiring to the heater is connected and the connectors show no sign of scorching. Track down the flow switch and check that it is working and that you have flow. It cuts of the power to the heating element. The heating element should read somewhere between 20 and 35 ohms. Check the solder connections on the controller heater relay on the controller. Check the resistance of the NTC temperature sensor (usually about 1700 ohms). It should go down when you dip the end into hot water.

Interesting how problems unite us/draw us to the same sources of information ;) - my 14 year old Bosch gave up on the heating element a few days ago - a couple of centimeters of heater track is missing. I wanted to double check if I understood you right - were you buying a second hand element of ebay or having someone repair the damaged one ? BTW, noticed your motor rotates very freely - mine doesn't seem to be so free - do I need to grease it or something ? Asking all this just in case there is a chance to avoid buying a new one which I have already picked out (yes, the heating element seems to be made intentionally a weak spot - that popped into my mind as soon as I saw the 2kw writing on the element).

The motor should turn reasonably freely. If not the seal may have gone and water got into the bearing. If the circulation was slow it may have contributed to the heater problem. I would invest in a new motor/heater element rather than risk a second hand one. It will probably cost half as much and last 20% as long. It is a very poor design. they know full well that they will make money on spares or sell a new machine. Good luck with the repair. Thanks for watching. Subscribe if you can.

Thanks. I started the process but got fed up with eBay's ridiculous buyer protection. They just summarily refund the buyer heating element because the idiot didn't bother to check that it would fit. They just figured I would add 5% to the price to cover the losses but I don't want to play their game. They have since revised this policy due to seller protest.

From my experience, tenants will play with the controls and break things unknowingly. That said, have you checked if it resets itself after a power failure?

Um not my tenants. The setting is too obscure. The controller has NV (non volatile RAM). It is supposed to save the setting at installation. A lot of people turn their power socket to the appliances off every day as the modern places have the switches located above the work surface. If you take anything away from this video then if you have cloudy glasses something is wrong :: Don't run it without salt, or run with the wrong hardness setting and descale it from time to time. If the settings are correct and the glasses have deposits them it may be poisoned exchange resin in the softener (rarer) or a blown valve (even rarer).

@@razenby I'm in the states and the dishwashers here don't have any of those features. I realize it is supposed to stay in the non volatile RAM but it's not functioning properly. This is why I asked if you checked if that memory was lost during a power cycle? If you didn't check this then you could say.... "I didn't check that."

@@razenby also, here in the states we don't have switches on hard-wired appliances. So, once you wire up a dishwasher, it's wired in and the only disconnect is at the breaker panel.

Yes, the element should be made a consumable like the tablets, salt rinse aid. It is a great shame that they see an opportunity for gangsta profit margins for the spare or to sell a new machine simply because an unreliable $5 component has failed. They should be prosecuted...

My Siemens dishwasher ran perfectly for 3 years. After that, in the next 12 months, I have gone through 3 burnt heating elements. The heat pumps last 4 months on average whereas the warranty period for the replaced parts are 3 months. The Siemens people tell me it’s because of fluctuating voltage in my house. I am not sure. I am thinking of doing 2 things. (1) shifting to a detergent gel, rather than detergent powder, and (b) installing a voltage stabiliser.

@@dibyajyotighosh the UK mains voltage is very high in some areas. However it seems unusual. We are in a hard water area and when I have blown mine up I found a build up of stuff inside the exact spot that the thick-film heater element blew. Worth keeping it clean and descaled and maybe run it on a lower temp setting if you can.

Yes I think so. Some of mine are 15 years old. Descale it regularly - I was very skeptical but not any more. The later ones seem especially sensitive to limescale build up on the thick film heater that causes it to fail.

@@razenby normally an open circuit heating element or low insulation. They are just not robust enough.

Yes, I check for continuity and insulation using a multimeter. It's worth checking the insulation anyway, especially if you have any strange symptoms, as insulation faults on heating elements are common nowadays. @@paulb9769
