I know you don’t really want a bunch of backseat mechanics but think about this. Multiply the weight you applied to you cheater pipe by distance from the nut to where you were exerting force, and that’s the amount of torque applied. If you were pushing with 100 lbs force and the bar is 8’ from the nut, that’s 800 ft-lb of torque. The OEM has a limit to the about torque that should be applied. Thus, a longer cheater pipe is not always the answer.

I have a Kubota too and this must be an issue w/Kubotas and bush hawgs... i have found that unless the mower is plumb and level w/ground with wheel supporting back end, front to back and side to side , it is going to buck like a bronc...Another thing might be to make sure after sharpening , that both blades weigh the same before reinstall if not take a little more off heavy blade till they about match in weight.. Thanks for the vid.

It takes about 10 min. to remove the blades. Check for wear on the blade holding bolts and the hole in the blades. Do keep in mind these blades must be within 5lbs f each other because this is a balanced system. If you ever look at a skid plate, stump jumper or what ever you want to call it you will see that it is a balanced piece of hardware. Something out of balance is what you are looking for.

I have a king cutter. A 6 inch piece of 14 gauge hog wire wrapped around the head of the blade bolt. It vibrated the hole tractor. Not just the mower. Half an ounce can make it vibrate.

I would think since the blade / pan assembly was loose, it would be a good time to remove and inspect it. I was just welding up a cracked pan on one of these and the top side of the pan was awfully pitted / corroded and warped. I think this stump jumper forgot to jump a few too many times :)

Might try a washer under the castle nut and go with factory torque specs. There is a reason you should stick to factory specific torque values. ...So you can get it to back off without damage the equipment. I've been a mechanic for over 40 years and seen the effects of people over torquing a component, it fails... when it does, it usually costs money or skin, or worse--both. This is why crush washers allow minimal torque and allow fasteners, drain bolts, and other components to be removed easily from equipment.

Grandson hit the post button. Sorry. The splined part of your stump jumper is above the splines on your gear box shaft, make a washer with a large center hole big enough to go over the splines on the gear box shaft. This will push the stump jumper up on the splines and tighten them. worked for me.
@snakerstran91015 жыл бұрын
Looked like a possibility that the nut was bottoming against the shoulder of the shaft before tightening against the stack of washers, etc. Also most of the 3pt brush hogs are meant to be tipped by lifting the rear and resting on the front. Just keep the PTO shaft out of the way.

It's called a Pan Weldment (stump jumper) by brush hog parts catalog. Never use a cheater to tighten the nut on the bottom of the shaft. Only to loosen. Remove the nut to inspect the spacing under the nut.Then remove the stump jumper & check the splines for debree,damage or bad bearing. If it wont tighten with just a ratchet or wrench and lub. On our king cutter the stump jumper splines striped out. Dad tried to tighten it with a 5 foot cheater after using just a 3/4 ratchet because it was still loose.. Needles to say he striped the threads of the shaft. So we had to buy a bottom shaft & stump jumper.

This may have already be said but the bad thing about greasing something that is not sealed in an environment like that is the grease will hold dirt and grit and act as a grinding wheel and wear pins, blades, jumpers and pins in an accelerated pace!. Just a thought!! :)

Just gonna say that, like the old wheel bearings, you never want to get them too tight. It’ll just lead to premature bearing failure and not let the bearing grease do it’s job.

I bought a 12ft shredder new from the dealer. Guess they didnt bother putting the tow pin in with the safty pin. They also put the safty shield antispin chain to that pin. First 1000 ft and it popped right out! New shredder smashing to the ground! Ever since then, been having a vibration on the right wing. Its smooth when mowing but vibrates when nothings going in.
@BIGALTX4 жыл бұрын
Smooth when running, but vibrates when disengaged... wow, that's more confusing than mine.
@brandoncaldwell954 жыл бұрын
@@BIGALTX i must have worded it incorrectly. On first startup its ok and smooth. At full rpm its shakes on the right wing. The right wing pto shaft does have a slight bounce/bow to it. This shake happens when not enough "load" is on the machine. If being pulled through thick brush or grass its smooth and everything acts correctly. This all happened after falling off the pin in the first 1000ft of being used after delivery. I partially take blame for not checking the attachment after being delivered to my property. I do blame the dealer guys for having the PTO shield antispin chain being hooked to the pull pin which caused the pin to remove itself and the shredder to fall off the tow bar

@@BIGALTX after 3 weeks, phone call to the dealer and a service tech to double check the unit (still waiting for his arrival) I might suggest checking all the bolts to the structure and especially to the gearbox mount and U joints. I was out cutting again today after talking to my dealer. He believes its the blades being unbalanced or the PTO shafts are bent, however I found multiple bolts to all be loose on my 12ft batwing. Especially the 3 gear boxes. Freaked me out after realizing maybe 200lbs of steel, stump jumper and blades at 16,000 RPM could have completely detonated behind me. My 6fter has imbalanced blades and the 3 point structure is also loose causing the vibration to look worse than it really is. Doesnt help i was cutting 3-5in brush with both of them.
