He was also Canadian Champ in Dirt Track racing , ride BSA and the XR750 and he loves the Sportster, he’s 5’6” and weighed 150lbs back in the day. Really enjoyed the video and I'm a prime candidate to comment. I just bought my first Harley yesterday after 50 years of riding Hondas. My last Honda was a 1996 Magna and I honestly loved the bike but it was having more and more problems. It left me stranded at a gas station Sunday morning and that was the last straw. I'd been thinking about finally getting a Harley for awhile. I'd even sat on a couple and immediately knew they weren't right for me. I'm 5-10 and around 145 lbs. and 76 years old, so I was looking for something smaller and lighter. I pulled up a 2013 Sportster XL1200 Custom at a dealership and it felt perfect. Not too big, not too heavy, great lines, a 4.5 gallon gas tank. The clutch and brake levers were perfect, the seat was even comfortable. My first real ride where I wasn't stuck in stop and go traffic was this morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No buyer's remorse for this guy. It will rattle your teeth sitting at a red light, but that smooths out and disappears when you get up a little speed. It's a great ride at 65 mph. The smaller size and weight make it nimble in the corners and the handling overall is beginner-easy. I think I got the right first Harley for my size and strength, which is not even close to what it was even 20 years ago, and I'm really comfortable with every aspect of this bike. Would definitely recommend the Sportster XL1200 for riders about my size and previous experience on metric cycles.

Won't need to dump money on aesthetics, just maintenance. Took me 3 years to get there, started off on a Suzuki 650 for two years then got a 1200 Sportster for a year as my first Harley. That thing was beat the f up when I got it and traded it in for the Softail. I followed your advice without even knowing it, it did take me a week to get used to it but now im good. Great advice. I started on a Fat Boy because I was too short for the sportster and I liked the curves. Lowered it to help me park but I road it well. The only thing missing was music and cargo. So I moved to a lowered Street Glide and road those for +14 years. Circumstances being what they were, near the end, I had to part ways. In a better position, I wanted to get another Street Glide but, then (unrelated) I got hurt. During my recovery years later, I purchased and tried to get back on a Street Glide but it wasn't happening. I just couldn't hold it up anymore in my current condition. I was devastated. My desire and short sightedness led me to the wrong decision. Upon going to the dealership to try and figure our what to do, my current Tri Glide had just been off loaded from the truck and was still in the crate. It spoke to me, met all my requirements, allowed me to get back on the road and I fell in love with it. It's why I created just a few videos to share my experiences and hopefully help other disabled riders get back to riding. I will always have a desire and passion for 2 wheels but for now, I'm out there doing what I love.

My favorite subject! Advice I was given but didn’t listen to was buy a used metric if you’re learning. It’ll save a lot of money while you learn what’s right for you or if riding isn’t. I don’t know but doubt using a metric as a starter is an option in an outlaw club. And I think you’re the first person I’ve seen point out if you can afford it, you’ll save a lot buying the options you want rather than doing it later. My first was a new Honda shadow 650. 6 months later I ate the cost and bought a 1600 Kawasaki

My first bike was a Honda xr75 70`s, owned multiple Harleys 1200 sporster with stroker motor but my true love is the Suzuki 650dr. I really do like your channel even though I am an old (58 yrs.) dualsport enthusiast that loves the single track.

I agree, I'm 5'2" and I just got my license. The sportster is my happy place right now. I can definitely say, though, at some point I will want a faster bike.

Started on a sportster. Went into a Heritage Softail. Now on a 2023 Street Glide. The softail, in my opinion, is a great starter. Low seat. Comfortable. Easily customizable. I like my couch on wheels now.

I'm 5'11", 215lbs. I thought I'd go fir a sportster fir my first bike this year. But my driver was selling his 84 softtail. It is in great shape so I grabbed it. At first the weight made me nervous, but I got used to it and love it. I feel I made a good choice. And for what I paid, when I want another one, I'll keep this and just add another more to my specific details.

My firt bike was a ts100 enduro when i was 12. Currently riding a softail blackline. I like the stripped down, no fairings, no frills, chopper looking bike. Similar to a softail slim, just without fat tires.

My first bike was an '05 Softail Standard that I converted into a trike on my own so I could get in the wind despite being born with one leg. The bike I ride now is a '97 California Motorcycle Company "Rocket" that I was able to use the axle and swingarm from the Softail to make a trike once again. I really enjoyed riding the Softail but I love the Rocket, it's a badass machine.

I appreciate that what you're up to here, Lord Soze. I like that your channel is kinda dedicated to keeping people safe and healthy. I meant that in a "hands" kinda way. You're giving us a peek into a world some of us don't really need to see up close. (None of this culture is for me. I didn't know that beforehand.) You are legit keeping people alive, chief. Thanks much.

I have a 2018 Iron 1200 and a 2022 Heritage Classic. I'm 70 and have been riding for over 50 years. I traded in a 2017 Street Glide for my Heritage. My second bike was a brand new 1977 sportster right off the show room floor. I went through 3 starters in first year on this bike.

I got my my first bike back in high school, me and a couple of my friends used to buy bikes from insurance companies, fix em and flip them. Those were all sport bikes. After I got married and had my first daughter, I gave up riding, and now, sixteen years later I got back into riding, got 89 softail custom and just recently got 21 ultra limited for long distance rides. That 89, is the one I love the most, them older bikes have a personality that newer ones don't. Stay safe out there, God bless!

My first HD (and second bike total) was an 883 Sportster. Great first bike as I was 5’9”, 155 at the time. Now I have a 2013 Electra Glide. I knew my next bike had to have cruise, a stereo and storage for stuff. Going to the grocery store, I can put quite a bit in my hard bags and trunk. I’d say any interstate/freeway driving you want a 1200cc engine or more. Same if you are going to be in an MC, whether 1%’er or a regular club.

After 25 yrs of riding big twins and several years building custom Harleys in the early/mid 2000s, this is such a loaded question and I've advised soooo many people especially during the fad years. MY first big twin was a 99 wide glide. Awesome bike(still have it) but my riding type is usually day/trip touring. My 2nd after taking my girl on a new england trip with a borrowed tourer was an Ultra Classic. I always loved and wanted a Road Glide so that's what I currently ride most. It is a cruise missile on the open road but be warned, it is HEAVY. I have a Softail for playing around/short hauls sometimes. If you are a noob but HAVE to have a big twin? NOTHING handles and rides like a Lowrider. It is the best handling, lowest center of gravity big twin HD ever built. Know your limitations and gain experience. Winston cup drivers didn't start with expert level cars.

I ride a 2013 Clapped out sporty chopper. Sportsters are great. Agree with just about everything you said in this video! If I had done a bit more research I probably would have gotten an older sportster to make a chopper. But it is what it is and I love my Harley and probably won’t ever get rid of her might buy another down the line to have a vintage Harley in my collection.

I'm in the UK, been on bikes as soon as I could reach the controls. I had a harley dyna very briefly, loved the looks but on uk roads it was a wrestling match the whole way. I couldn't understand the hype until I visited the USA, man you have different roads to us! I finally got it! Arrow straight roads and most turns being 90degree makes more sense. Now I'm on a honda nc750x and a benelli 750sei for special occasions

I’m 5’9 200lbs first bike was a fatboy and I liked it but it was heavy sold it than 10 years later I got a iron 883 liked how light it was but it was slow and rough on the highway than about 6 months ago I was in between buying a roadglide or a lowrider ST. I ended up getting the Lowrider ST because seems like everyone has the roadglide and the lowrider for me was best of both worlds, not to heavy, price was cheaper, has the 117 M8, has good wind protection. After doing all my modifications to make it comfortable I love this bike now, plus the S&S cam and Dyno tune make the bike fun.

My first bike was a Solex, (a bicycle that had a 49cc two stroke motor mounted to the triple tree that could be unhooked and placed on the front tire to start and motorized assist), fast forward ten years to 1978 when I bought my first Harley, a 1976 FLH. I still own that bagger. She doesn't have enough power to get out of her own way but nostalgia keeps her around. (That and understanding parents that let me park in their garage while I was off doing whatever I was doing for prolonged periods of time)

I just started writing last year so I'm still on my first bike, which is a 2001 883 that I picked up for about 2 grand. However I've probably put another two grand into it rebuilding the whole bike with the exception of the engine internals. I went to Tyler bars replaced grips cables half of the wiring harnesses all the lighting rebuilt the carb and forks, pretty much everything, including repainting and resurfacing the wheels tanks fenders forks and tree. But now I'm looking for the next one when I get enough money, and I'm looking really hard at finding a good sport glide. I just wish they came with at least a 114

I have a 2004 Honda Shadow Aero 750 i bought used. I really like the way it sits and feels. Not planning to change it up very much. Not planning to get anything bigger. According to the internet it is similar to a sportster. So maybe one day id get one of those in the future. No idea.
