The result? The more than questionable VR1000. It never won an AMA Superbike race. · Erik Buell ended up making its own company (Buell), making sports and naked bikes with H-D engines, it failed but had some cool-looking bikes. · H-D used to have a single-brand cup as a sideshow to AMA Superbike with their XR1200 muscle bike. @@giorap2625 Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen were riding Triumphs. Honda and Suzuki were building indestructible engines in the 70s that are looking like they'll make it to their 50th birthdays (mine are about to hit 40). Those bikes are beautiful in their mechanical simplicity. None of the American brands seem to be making the entry level motorcycles at an affordable price point to bring in new riders. You can't tell most of the story of American motorcycles without foreign brands. I'm all in favor of hyping the American brands, but most of them don't return the patriotism that I want to see to be an enthusiast on that basis. Even if they do, they don't have the market share that would make their biography relevant.

@@jonnymac8925 every Harley handles like an unergonomical bucket of rocks, the vrod was the best handling Harley ever made ever. And it actually was powerful/accelerated fast-ish unlike any Harley ever. Also Harleys are all rather ugly to be fair. The only Harley that would be kinda cool would be the new streetfighter if they actually pull it off without going bankrupt. I mean Harley is literally just a status symbol. In my mechanic life I had too ride too many of them to like any of them unfortunately
@jonnymac89253 жыл бұрын
@@factoryrider9537 lol the vrod was not the best handling Harley, the FXR and XR1200 take that. The vrod has no lean angle and it sits too low and has horrible ergonomics for twisties. I also told you, they already killed off the Bronx, the Bronx was the Streetfighter. They are however still making the 1250 custom which will have the same 145hp liquid cooled vtwin that the Pan America will have (similar motors to the Vrods, these are the Revolution X models, the Vrod being the revolution). There is also a new liquid cooled vvt Sportster in the making since they don't pass emissions in most countries now. The best handling Harley is the XR1200, and almost any Sportster could outhandle the Vrod. Yes, they were quick in a straight line, but that's about it. Also, 99.9% of people like the customization options for Harleys,there are lots of Baggers, Dynas, Sportsters with some sweet suspension and brake setups.

Glad someone else agrees with that. They wanted Eric Buell to make bikes their way. If they would have gave him full creative support Buell would still be Harley Davidson's super sport brand. I could only imagine what he would have done with the Livewire.
@salvadordollyparton6664 жыл бұрын
Always had the same opinion. They were badass when they first came out. I've always loved v twin sport bikes, I was in love with the rc-51, Ducati, Buell back in the day. You just can't beat their sound. Harley would have been unstoppable if they'd embraced Buell from the start. I still really want one, never had the chance to get one yet. I had a 96 fat boy when I was young, and when Buell came out with their bikes, I was like holy shit this is my dream bike. A fast harley.
@Heavywall704 жыл бұрын
If buell had put a conventional front brake on the XB12r race bike at the Daytona 200, McWilliams would have lapped the field and won handily, but as it was the crew couldn’t change the front wheel without a almost lap each time. I venture that if they’d won that race Harley’s (and potential buyers) opinions of their sport bike would’ve been different Buells are quick and torquey and had tons of innovationsthat got the center of gravity pretty low, like oil in the swing arm, fuel in the frame, exhaust and suspension completely under the bike. Buell is an amazing thinker in terms of performance and function, his EBR bikes were pretty amazing too. But perception of American sport motorcycles is pretty narrow minded and short sighted.

My dad just got a 2020 sportster like a month ago he is 46 and said he hadn't rode a bike since he was 22. His face when he started driving off the dealership was great. I've never seen someone so scared and happy at the same time before.
