I buy zero sports cards for value. It’s all for my collection.
@chrisolivo65915 ай бұрын
You kind of spelled out my PC strategy. When i buy a card, it’s either a high end iconic card that will be a staple in my collection, or a $25 base card that i enjoy buying knowing full well the card is worthless. I think i would get bored if i only bought a limited amount of high end cards per year (i would probably get antsy too because i enjoy tracking cards on eBay). By also buying those $25 nostalgia base cards, it fills my needs of buying cards in quantity so i don’t have to wait for that next big purchase. It’s a delicate balance.

Good to have a balance of the 2!

That’s exactly how I collect as well, a lot of low end stuff that I just enjoy and time to time some bigger card. Btw looking back 15-20 years ago when I started collecting, the cards that at the time some of the low end cards that were just appealing (but had close to no value) are the cards that would have been great to stack up for investment purposes (at least in terms of growth %)

Same here,I was collecting since the 80s and was kicked out when I was 18 and my parents ended up trashing all my card now I’m just collecting for myself

Awesome episode! Yeah! I'm all about nostalgia as well. I do like that you try to fuse that love with both valuable and not so valuable cards! That Hoops set and Marvel set are such classics, love it. I also agree that a binder is the best way to view a collection. I have a toploader binder that i love flipping through that has some of my favorite cards in it. Sure I have some slabs too, but those are so clunky to go through :( And thanks for the shout out, it made my day! Rock on! Keep pumping out that great content!

Most pertinent information, they cost a penny or less to manufacture. Buying them to (maybe) turn a profit is gambling not a hobby.

I do a little of both. Open boxes for regular Topps baseball, Heritage baseball. Still like to manually complete sets. But, buy complete sets of Topps Chrome baseball, Gypsy Queen Baseball, etc. If I am looking for chase cards I just buy them individually through eBay, or local card shop.

My PC is about great HOFs and hope they all go up in value.. so my PC is long term cards I love but also cards I think will go up in value.. the big name HOF top tier players in history.. that is my PC… a notebook of common cards as u showed has no interest to me.. but that is where we are different… those cards have no value going forward… my PC is great players I enjoy and hope go up in value...

Your talking about stranger things cards got me thinking....why did they never do a dazed and confused set? Hands down my favorite movie and it made so many no name actors famous.

I’ve been collecting for 5 decades now. The feelings come and go. Having a complete set in a binder on the cheap is certainly a special feeling but there’s nothing like having the highest graded collection on PSA of your favorite player or players. If you could say you had the highest graded Drew Brees collection on PSA’s set registry, that would overshadow most of the other accomplishments you think are considerable in the hobby,imo. I say this having the highest graded basic Ken stabler set on the Planet and am only #2 in his Master Collection which I’d pay dearly to change.

I'm not a Brady fan.....but if I see a really good rc for cheap...I would buy it. Buying for the money can have its risk as well. Why is this card cheaper than before? Comps? I don't look at recent comps,I am looking at years before covid stupidnomics 😅
@jesser91155 ай бұрын
If you look at the money supply since 2020 it’s not “stupidnomics”… most stuff with low supply high demand should min double what it was before 2020… just my view

What a great episode! Might have been my fav one so far. Loved you walking through all of that. yeah remember walking through Toys R Us... I always wanted so much. Loved the ThunderCats and He-Man shout out. :) So true what you said on the 101 - it truly kinda hits your PC a unique way. Great hoop set pickup -the binders are great to flip through like a book. Hoops 89 was a classic.

Jesue Luzardo was my ace in the hole who now entering the point of never becoming the starter I always thought he would become. He has his own full plastic case. Hope reigns eternal, we shall see. Howard Johnson of my NY Mets is my favorite PC player of all time. I have his HOF postcard even though he recvd zero votes and I have his light switch when entering my card room. Kind of, you know what, but to me, super cool

Ever notice on the A-Team, with all the shooting and stuff blowing up, no one ever dies! I figured anyone who went to Vietnam must have taken range practice at some point, but hey what do I know? One of the most famous cards in that 1990 Hoops set is #205 Mark Jackson. The two guys in the background on the left are the Menendez Brothers. That card is a real piece of history.

lol yes! If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the A Team movie from like 2010 with Bradley cooper, a million bullets that never hit anyone, but has a good twist ending

Binder sheets are not all the same quality and some do get quite funky after a while. I rotate my binders and check for page quality once a year. Still nothing like looking thru complete sets in a binder. I have a bunch as well

Anyone getting into cards right now for money will be disappointed because the market is falling. It has been and will continue to fall for a while.
