Do you think the announcement from Microsoft confirming the closure of the Xbox 360's online services and Eshop libary is soley to blame for this sudden spike in game prices in 2024? Or do you believe its other factors such as another generation of gamers rebuying their childhood games? or is this just the last true disc only console generation?

It's partially true. When you start getting to 2010 and onwards, the PS3 versions became the superior versions. For example, GTA 5 doesn't need multiple discs on PS3. Certain other games, such as Vanquish, were also superior on PS3. The Xbox 360 versions were superior prior to 2010 because of PS3 being difficult to program for. Developers got the hang of it in 2010 and onwards.

The Xbox One had an extremely weak library with majority of the titles available on other consoles and PC. You won’t see them jump to the levels of some PS3/360 games. Modern consoles will not have the collectibility as their previous generations. The 360/PS3 was the last era where physical was the dominant way of purchase.

I was able to buy Transformers Devastation dirt cheap on Xbox, it's really expensive on PS4 I have it physically on Xbox, Plus Essential on PS4

Interesting vid buddy, enjoyable watch. A few things to consider though are the 360 was the greatest Xbox generation, many of the games are backwards compatible and they have just shut the online stores for the 360. They were the last of the games systems that didn’t need such long installs for games (barring a few)….so many great IPs started life on the 360 generation. It’s certainly the ‘in’ console to collect for now. Really not sure Xbox one games are going to be as good an investment- yes they are likely to be one of the last gen systems with disks but, I would say the ps4 is likely to be the better investment as there are so many more indie titles on there…

Interesting point! Have you peeped the prices of certain heavy hitting multiplatform games across ps4/xbone? Sekiro is currently wayyy cheaper 2nd hand on xbox for example

@@naliboi93 a big part of the price difference between a lot of ps4 games being cheaper on the Xbox is the games may also be available on the gamepass, or at least there is the potential it could appear on there…thankfully it means titles drop in price nicely for peeps like me who don’t do gamepass

Great video bruv This is what happens with every generation of console once it hits that age it's no longer classed as yesterdays machine that no one wants, prices increase more to do with desirability and trend rather than rarity as these games were produced in the 100s of thousands I think the shop will steady at some point the same as it did on the generation before prices probably wont fall dramatically but will even out

i bought 50 cents blood in the sand last year for 80$ and looked recent it's going for 170 Canadian. I understand why some of the games were still expensive because they're not backwards compatible and some have license issues. But one of the big things for me i live in a rural era where my internets 25mbps so it take 2-3 days to download a current gen game, but with older games, and 360's i can just put the disk and play it with only a 5mb patch.

The video game prices in Canada always seem so expensive too me. Canada and USA prices for retro games are far superior to the UK

For me like any console/game if I find a 360 game on the cheap I will purchase it - recently I found Blur, GTA Eps from Liberty City, Blood Bowl & Legendary for 50p - £1 each from charity shops & Car Boots. I tend not to push the boat out much however I picked up Dodonpachi Resurrection, Akai Katana, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Collection, Ridge Racer 6 & Alice Madness Returns before the prices went bonkers.

Some mad price increases. I remember 2/3 years ago I probably wouldn't buy a 360 game for more than £20 as it seemed expensive for the console! I reckon my highest increase was picking up a bundle of 6 games for £10 on vinted. Serious sam collection was part of it, around a £15 game at the time. Now 52 and out of stock. I've moved onto ps4 and switch now as they drop in price

I wouldn’t hold onto many Xbox one games for too long Scotty, if MS stop supporting the console a lot of the games won’t work especially if they need a large download. X360 will still play on the best part, which is why they still working fine despite the age.

Rubbish as long as the games don’t require internet connection the data is all on the disc. I do not have internet connected to my consoles and have never had a problem playing any game that didn’t require connection!

I’m referring to cheap pick ups now stashing games to resell to CEX in the future, some games may have little resell value due to necessary updates or installs. If you’re collecting games and have them installed that’s ok - that’s my position. But I’m not seeing them as good investments compared to older gen console games. I don’t think they will go up like x360 and ps3. If you have £40 to invest in old games I think you will get a much better return to that money buying a Pokémon cart game than 40 Xbox one games.

I tend to move around a lot, lately I’m playing alot of Wii in terms of retro. Not really touched my Megadrive , snes or 64 in a while. Only dabbled on ps1 NES and Xbox og this year a little. I spend most my game time on my Nintendo switch but in terms of retro I have enjoyed my game gear this year

Xbox 360 was the most fun generation, I loved XBLA the most. They had Indie games that were hitting a new stride we hadn't seen and it opened up a new way of gaming. The store closing ended an era, but I disagree about Xbox One it didn't have much of a library it was the worst library Microsoft ever has had.
