Stop clicking to change presets! | Blackstar Live Logic + Neural DSP

Couldn't really find a simple video how to do this so I thought I would make one. Using a Scarlet 2i2, Kiesel DC700, Ableton, Neural DSP Archetype Petrucci, and Blackstar Live Logic Midi Controller. If you have any other questions just let me know in the comments. Thanks!

Ola England talks about that. The automated changes work when playing with a backing track. As the song plays, volume automation takes care of that.

Great video man. Is the PC Preset switch delay you demonstrated possible to get rid of? Running a similar setup and ran into this.. Using a simple Actition Midi Switcher. It's shouldn't be a lack of power computer wise.. Hmm..

I haven’t sorted a way to get rid of the delay between switching channels. It doesn’t really mess with me though too much

In my case, the mateus asato have a big latency between preset . I dont know why, outside of ableton it is perfectly ok. But once its open throug ableton, asato have a huge delay between presets. My other plugins dont have this issue.

Yeah there is that pause when switching presets. I just got used to it and its not too annoying for the way I use it which is jamming covers and songs on stream.

I tend to get a decent amount of latency when switching this way. Is there any way to fix that? Like if im playing along to a song and its switches clean to distortion, i dont find it particularly smooth.

Yeah it does have the moment of silence between switching channels. I just got used to it and try and switch during less noticeable times, but I also mainly jam covers and songs on stream with it so its not that big of a deal :) I could see it being annoying for a live situation where the only guitar you can hear is your own

Could you also use this to switch between different plugins or combine plugins? Like, if there was an effect I wanted to use that the JP plugin didn't have, could I use the foot switch to change between presets in the JP plugin as well as adding effects and things from different plugins at the same time?

Yeah you could but you would have to have both plugins on a track it’s controlling and have one mute as the other one activates. Could get complicated.

Currently using a MeloAudio MidiCommander. Layout is pretty similar but I noticed for whenever I try to do a PC change it doesn’t work. Ableton is receiving the midi but the plug in is not registering a Program Change. However whenever I do a CC it seems to work, but I really only want to use that to turn on and off things like pedals. For me I noticed in the stand-alone the PC works just fine but in the DAW it does not what so ever. Any suggestions to get PC to work?

I did it once years ago and I just open that instance of ableton whenever I stream and it’s g2g

@@JesseMichel for me I’d use it to help gain stage between diff tones , so if a song starts off clean , I could switch to the dirt channel and get a feel for the tone so when I record it has that natural vibe , and transition between channel switching , like on a real amp .

Hi . I just bought the Live logic midi foot controller . I'm facing an issue . Whenever I am midi mapping any of the buttons on live logic foot controller to any parameter on the Ableton Live , as soon as I let go of the button on the foot controller , the parameter on Ableton Live turns off. It only stays on till the time I am pressing on the button of the foot controller , even though all the settings on the software are exactly the same as mentioned in almost every tutorial online . Please help

Sounds like you have it on the wrong mode. Flip the switch in the back

Its is not. Ableton just does not read the programing I did on the controller.

i can't seem to figure out how to correctly send PC midi messages using the foot controller in patch mode. I followed your steps up to the part where i need a plugin that costs more money. is there an easy way to use the logic controller in patch mode or a free plugin or feature that makes the banking functions work?

Hi Jesse, brilliant video, but for whatever reason this doesn't appear to work for me when I put it in patch mode. How did you get it working? I'm using ableton 11 and have followed all your instructions but when I map my commands via the plugin it is not changing the presets on neural dsp. I have seen in another video that apparently ableton doesn't work with the patch mode but for you it is.

Make sure you’re doing the step all the steps. I know there was a part in there that was an odd step but was required for it to work. Mine is set up exactly how I showed and it’s working. Hard to help more without seeing what’s going on. Sorry!

@@JesseMichel Appreciate the response Jesse. I have it on patch mode and am seemingly following all the steps. I have ableton 11, are you still using ableton 9. This is one of the only reasons I can think of.

Make sure the midi channel has mixer selected and “on” if I didn’t do this it never worked. This was the weird step

Yeah its that mate. On ableton 11 there is no option to select and turn on 'mixer'. Seems very strange that a newer version of ableton would emit that though. I have seen another video where a chap is saying that patch mode is not compatible with ableton.

What about using multiple standalone Archetypes vs. using a DAW? For example switching from my clean preset in Rabea's Archetype to my drive preset in Nolly during a song. I am guessing I would need 2 midi controllers running thru a separate USB connections. I use Logic X but the videos with that DAW are non existent.

If you can make midi do it, you should be able to make the pedal queue that up

Trying this but every time I press footswitch 4 it record arms audio track 4 and opens a new clip in the session view. I've got the Live Logic set to custom rather than patch, and have tried having it send different types of messages PC, CC etc. It won't midi map to the pedals in Archetype either. Any ideas?

Did you manage to solve this mate? I'm following all the steps but not having any luck on the patch mode. I map it all the correct way via the plugin but when I click on the given banks the preset isnt changing or registering.

Hi , what if there's a sound mute between changing the presets? Like when I'm playing live and I want change from rhythm preset to any other there is instant mute for 0.5 second and it's really frustrating. Any tips please?

Not sure how to stop that from happening. It doesn’t personally bother me imo. Most players stop for a second when they switch to a lead or whatever but yeah I totally get how it could be annoying
