When I transitioned to unprocessed vegan, for the first week I ate as much fruit, veggies, potato/sweet potato, steamed brown rice, and beans as I wanted until the cravings for processed food left. I ate cherry tomatoes, carrot and cucumber slices all day long. I ate no oil, no added sugar, no processed foods. By week 2 the cravings went away!

Re cravings- I told myself to give it (no junk food) 4 weeks then reevaluate how I felt. Having an end in sight (either to the craving or to the denial) seemed to help me. I did the same with smoking - when I decided to really quit, I told myself that I could start again when I turned 70. What about a feeling of hunger that has nothing to do with the stomach? I tried cutting out nuts and oil in cooking but it leaves me feeling unsatisfied, despite having a full stomach. And I feel a bit off, too, like I don't have as much energy. I am suspecting people eat because of different hunger cues. I can deal with not having a full stomach, in fact I don't like that sensation at all, of feeling stuffed. I can't deal with having no energy and being cranky that I get when I am genuinely hungry.

We are 2nd week in for WFPB, already my blood sugars are down...yay!!! My goal is to lose 100 lbs, and thanks to Dr. Neal Barnard, in time I will realize it. I loved cheese, and thought it would be so hard to give up, to my surprise, I do not miss it at all. We went cold turkey on all dairy and meats. We gave all our cheeses away to our friends who love them and do not want to change. I found that we could adapt all recipes by vastly reducing oils and meats, replacing them with seitan or soy when needed, otherwise just WFPB. Thank you for your tutorials.

Let’s be real about weight gain after losing weight. I’ve done it myself so many times and the weight doesn’t come back because I’ve continued healthy eating! It comes back because cheat meals turn into multiple consecutive days and weeks of cheating where healthy food goes out the window!

When I was 15 (and lost 50 pounds, permanently) I used to look at food that I craved and ask myself what do I really want: the taste of the food in my mouth, or the feeling of having it in my stomach after eating it? Sometimes I would just taste a tiny bit and then walk away, thinking about how the flavor "felt" in my mouth. I reminded myself that the feeling of having eaten it was not very good, but the act of tasting it was. Over time my craving turned to fruits and simpler foods.

Nice outlook! I have the same feeling about foods and tastes acclimating. I feel a good number of people do not understand this taste acclimation happens, that many of us are totally happy with these foods. I believe they have the idea we suffer, and I can understand the train of thought but if it can be dispelled through testimonials, many more people will give it a shot at least.

I found that if my plate is half veggies and half starches (potatoes, corn. rice and beans) makes me feel more satisfied than eating all veggies. Starches are complex carbohydrates that are carbs that don't spike your glucose levels, and don't make you hungry again soon after.
@RiDankulous3 жыл бұрын
Even doing this for 4+ years I have room for improvement. To help with feeling less hungry, I decided to add baked potato slices since I have access to an oven now. I bought a 10 pound bag but that might be too much. I'll eat about 24 ounces daily and reduce the other starches accordingly. I hope to have my waist at 29.5" within 2 months. By the way, adding potatoes in place of some of the beans and whole wheat pasta, it works for me. I also added 2 bananas daily. Those together go a long way on calorie control for me. However, prepping and cooking potatoes takes time. I like the taste though.

Very interesting video. Personally, I switched from a low carb, heavy protein diet (on which I lost 25lbs) to plant based. So far on a week of plant based, I've gained 3lbs - WHILE still measuring my calories carefully and sticking to my 1,800 calorie goal. A little perplexed, I'm hoping that's temporary. Before anyone asks - I've only eaten sweet potato, beans, greens, fruit, and tofu. I limit my fat to 30g a day or less.
@Magnulus763 жыл бұрын
Your metabolic rate and activity level might actually be burning less calories than 1800 per day. Another thing to keep in mind is that it takes time for the microbiome to adapt. Some kinds of gut bacteria can actually make weight loss more difficult.

Thanks for the video. With my usual foods, I do have hunger but it is generally at a tolerable level, and usually minor and short lasting. I count calories now only to get a slim waist goal that I've had in the past but stopped due to lack of focus and discipline. I'm sticking to the plan but with a realistic time frame, with enough calories and nutrients. I had to make an adjustment to my daily activity level, marking as sedentary because my weight loss leveled out. This adjustment appears to be working well. I tend to have less hunger eating 20 ounces of black beans with whole wheat pasta split across two meals. I heard that beans can be very satiating and that seems to be the case for me. I have in the past stuck to pasta as my starch or bread, but without the beans, and there seemed to be more hunger with just those. I haven't exercised at all and with just a bit I think it'll put me firmly in the right direction fast enough. I have a routine to ramp up that is fairly high intensity home body weight resistance and plyometric. I exercised once and was sore for several days since I was sedentary. =D I will stop eating chocolate at all and had some dark chocolate on rare occasion. It generally takes the place of foods with more nutrients that are more satiating and nearly as tasty, such as sweet fruits.

@Led.on.YouTube3 жыл бұрын
It should be fine (as long as no oil added -- light salt should be fine), but I recommend not snacking in general. If you look into Dr. Alan Goldhammer and Dr. Fuhrman, you'll learn about fasting and "true" hunger If your goal is to trim off fat, limit the amount of fat you consume and eat for a smaller window early in the day. Like 7am-3pm or shorter. I do 7am-12pm every day and don't eat at all Saturday Light exercise + muscle building will also be huge for losing fat

Salty and crunchy is real tasty. I haven't had popcorn but a couple things with crunchy and salty taste that I eat are baked potato slices and my whole wheat bread, homemade. Sorry I don't know about popcorn other than vaguely recalling someone in one of the healthy eating videos saying it may lead to overeating. I wish I could remember the reference. I used to slice potatoes with a knife and lay them on a sheet slightly overlapping so a small edge is on the tray. That way, they are much easier to get off with a spatula. Baking potato slices does take a fair amount of time. Slicing is a bit inconvenient, but I know there are slicers that make it easier I will consider in the future.

@cyclingtothemoon25393 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, I disagree. It’s very easy to overeat plant based. Dates and nuts are very small and high in calories, just 3 dates is close to 300 calories. Hummus generally has oil in it which is also high in calories. People also neglect to include the oil they use for cooking into their calorie count. Whilst the most important thing is getting someone off a processed diet, ultimately there will come a stage where it’s important for them to count calories
@SunflowerVegan3 жыл бұрын
Being aware of which foods are higher in calorie density is the first step. You are right you can eat healthy but eat too many calories... so instead of eating hummus from the store.. eat your own without oil.. or just have 1 serving per day. Eating more low calorie dense foods and pairing it with low amounts of the higher calorie dense foods is the way to go.
