I like the REV KICK no transient, but only used tastefully and as you mentioned, not plastered all over. The Rev Bass Note does sound a bit better in this example, I do agree.

I don't make psytrance, but yeah I agree. The simple reverse kick produces this big point of high energy where the period of the transient is extended by the mirroring, but it's to the detriment of the rest of the bar because everything that follows feels so much less energetic than that combined mutant hit. The alternative with the reversed bass note adds a sense of groove that makes it seem much more danceable, in the sense that the "whhhip" of the reverse-to-forward kick goes straight to the top of your head but the bass note goes to your hips.

do people really bash triplets? thats a real shame. hey aspiring trance artist, dont listen to any one, (90% of people have no idea what they are talking about. music is music, the whole commercial underground bullshit is a lie for musicians that dont have anything better to do. make music. fuck everything else. thank you Dash !

I trash triplets, but I also praise triplets. When I trash them that's because I think they're trash though, because the triplets I praise are because they're used in an interesting way, they have an original rhythm, paraphrasing Glitch - some people out triplets and call it a day.

I like to use a different kick than the main and mix the reversed one much quieter and carve some high frequency on it. Not making psytance though. Edit: I like your no transient version the most, it yields similar results to low passing. Will give it a try!

I actually like edits with reversed kicks, but mostly in more overly edited musicstyles like industrial hardcore / Breakcore. Your example with the reversed bass note sounded very smooth! it really slotted well into the drop.

Last time I used reverse kicks was 2001 I think lol. What really works for my ears is some tasteful “preverb”… subtle yet works if you want a quick little riser into a bar
@Maradnus2 жыл бұрын
reverced bass note all teh way. it pushes you into the the next bar! I have the same thing with rev kicks. I remember when they were super popular back in the 90's and it worked then. but as production became the focus over the rhythms and grooves that tranced you out! (substances excluded)

I don’t know much about psytrance but how about applying a bit of high pass to remove some of the lower ‘ooomff’ energy so that when the kick and bass come in there’s much more low end punch that is untouched by the reverse. I also wonder what both the reverse kick (without transient) and reverse bass together with some highpass applied would be like.. just thinking out loud at]s it might sound crap. But you never know without trying…

I think drops in general scratches my nerves. It is not like I don't use them, but they need to express something more than just being a drop. I agree with everything you say here but I am not the right person to ask about drops because I find them just too phreakin mainstream and annoying in general.
@tru7hhimself2 жыл бұрын
the reverse bass fits your track here the best with these other bass fills. in general i do like the reverse kick done right (lower volume and some of the transient taken off) best. though your "more drastic" version does take away a bit too much from the extra impact a reverse kick has. after all the reason for using a reverse kick (imho) is to emphasize one or two particular hits of the kickdrum in the track at points where the beat comes back in, and if you take away too much of the higher frequencies of the kick you also lose a bit of this emphasis. there's always one magic spot in between. if you can't find it, then a reversed kick probably isn't the right tool for the job.

i think this is not a problem of the reverse kick itself, the energy of a drop is given mostly by their low frequency...so if you put anything that has more energy in the bass frequecy than the drop itself it will suck. You can use envelope and lower the volume like you did, but also a hpf works great!
@DashGlitch2 жыл бұрын
It’s actually the rapid change in frequency that creates the ramp in energy, play a sine at the fundamental pitch of the kick and reverse it, no biggy right 👌

I like using rev kicks but sparingly, Ialready drop all kick fills by atleast 3db or more depending on the track. I like this idea though of getting rid of the end of the rev kick and only having the more subby part. Il try that in future. Sorry dash for grinding your gears. Also I'd say not every kick style or every kick is good for reversing either 😉 🤔 🙂🙂🙏❤🍄. Thanks for the video.

Try removing the transients, especially if you do your own mastering, you will be a happy person with stable gain reduction 👌😄

Dash, isn't this an example of some mid-arrangement development, not a drop? or is it solely for video purposes?

I would definitely say that the REV BASS combination is better. With KICK vs REV KICK, there is so much cluster on the high end and the dropped kick doesn't hit me in the face lol Also when we trim the REV KICK, the build up loses a bit of steam so REV BASS is the clear winner for me :)

@@DashGlitch wowzer, i much prefer using reversed reverb from the initial hit of the lead sound or vocal.cut first note -render it- reverse it ,add long reverb-render it-reverse it again, is used alot in pop music etc for vocals but works for introducing anything.sounds long winded but takes few seconds to do.i find the freq that are most prominent in the riser/sweep is what your ears will focus on when track drops/new sound introduced..the sound before impacts how you percieve the next sound.

@artymcecstacyface62692 жыл бұрын
I dont like arrangments that use many leads in the build up and have much going on but only use the kicknbassline in the drop without anything else really happening besides some small short fx sounds. Thats kind of the commercial stereotype for me aswell. It always feels like the track starts from the beginning like a recycling loop and not like a travel from start to finish
@stackoverflow19852 жыл бұрын
True man ! That's what I like too ....leads are really OVER-ABUSED.... people tend to fill with leads because they are very easy and basic to create (I can create a FM lead in about 8-10 seconds :D ), so they have not to loose too much time into sound dewsign for other sounds. I like to start a generative drone machine with drops (with delays and revcerbs), made into Bitwig internal modular environment (PolyGrid, something MINDBLOWING!) with some random MIDI notes at a really low rate, to make this patch immersive (expecially when I modulate the release of the amplitude...magic happens here, paired with a reverb)

The only way to be truly unique and non-commercial is to release tracks of pure silence :D Sound is way overused these days haha
