Always put the header up to the top plate and pack the opening down . The whole point is for the header to distribute the roof load . That way is better then a bunch of tiny cripple blocks above it
@CMCraftsman3 ай бұрын
Yeah in this situation here he should have plated the header top and bottom to be solid to the top plate.

It's a window opening. You pack these all the time like this, what are you talking about? The top plate is what distributes the weight, the header is fine where it is. It's no different than squash-blocks in a basement.

@@matthewmbober4426 it’s a large window opening on a wall that supports the roof load , those tiny cripples will definitely split when you nail them and if not they will split in the future

@matthewmbober4426 it is nothing like squash blocking. Dan is 100% correct, the entire point of the a "header" is to carry the load above it, that is why an "engineer calls out what size beam.. Why does the garbage header always go up to the top plate an alot of times only a songle top plate, an then you fir down for your opening? Maybe you should go an talk with some engineers, but if you were hired to frame a house you would have a time or to. 😊

@@danthecarpenterman9463 I agree but the top cripple blocks are legal and have engineering approval if they are properly installed and correct materials

Also, I'm a believer in nailing your king studs to the header first, then installing it as a package.

I am not trying to be one of those online guys that knows everything. And your works looks good and it was done right. But…. lol when you are nailing off those studs I would hold your hand back from the bottom/top plate where you are holding your. I have seen guys holding it close like you are and they hit a knot and the nail shines right into their hand. Just common practice stuff . Other than that great work!

The title of the video is stop framing walls like an amateur. This entire time all I was watching were amateurs. To much ladder work, from installing headers to double top plates. This should always be done on the ground. And please stand up when you nailing not not crawling along on your knees!

To everyone calling out stupid shit, if it's YOUR job site, you can tell people how to do it. If not, shut the hell up. Everyone is a pro in the comments and does it better than everyone else, right??

You must get really tired from pressing that trigger all day young fella. What you don't show are the endless hours spent at Home Depot picking through all the kindling to find these perfect studs. Professionals have to make the best of what passes for lumber in the shipment dropped off first thing this morning.

Sure looked like an amateur to me. You don't need all those pencil marks and lines across the plates. Big waste of time .
