Ashley has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are KZbin, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s KZbin channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her KZbin channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

My Brookgold Plum is absolutely covered in Aphids right now, planted the tree back in ‘09 and I’ve never seen the aphids on it like this before, funny enough there’s no sign of them on my other two plum trees. Lol! Seems to be more ladybugs slowly showing up on it, so hopefully, fortunately the tree still looks alright for the most part, don’t think the aphids are really causing much damage. 🤔

Your explanation was great. My brain couldn't wrap around trying to apply it to my garden. I did get a number of 1,316 when I googled my location, but all that seems to tell me is that it's prime time for pests. The other chart I looked at had all trees listed so that didn't help. I think I'm too old to comprehend all this science stuff any more. 😢

Really odd things I’ve noticed this year. I use netting on brassicas and the cabbage moths were flying around readily and Poof! They disappeared. Then we always had a big problem with potato beetles and this year I spotted them on ONE plant, use Captain Jacks Dead Bug Once and not thoroughly either-And they are Gone! I’m starting to see a couple Japanese beetles and wonder if the same will happen with them and the squash vine borer. Could it be all the rain we are getting? Since March we have had 31.19” of rain!! I think our average is 37” annually. Maybe all the bugs drowned. One thing rain can do is keep scents down and maybe they can’t find the plants. We just got swamped again with 3+” yesterday and more coming Thursday and Monday. Ugh! Too much to go from severe drought to this disgusting rainforest atmosphere.
