Personally, my mom got married at 21 (my dad pressured her, he was 27) my big sister and I were born into poverty, they're more stable now, but my mom giving birth at such early ages seems like a negative thing to me, if you're poor, don't have children, sure it might make you maybe happy but in my opinion, as a child born in poverty, creating a child when you're not financially stable is a tad bit selfish

Me and my partner to the same exact thing she’s from the Philippines. We both want to get established first in America. And get things going nothing but respect for you. Some people don’t realize having children the big responsibility and sometimes you want to get things done before you think about starting a family.

I like the black sheep's, I am one myself haha But it's horrible to see people trying to convince others to do or to have something while they are not even the ones to take care of. It's not only about having kids but also taking up the responsibility of getting into a partnership, marriage and so many other things. As so many people have so many opinions. Live and let live .... You are 100% right in your reasoning. Do not do anything to please others that will be your complete burden to carry. I'm very grateful for my daughter, but completely understand your thinking too.

Fletchie, you're a lovely person, and I have no wish to shame you. You're right to say you should not just follow what "everyone says", that is, whatever is the custom of your local culture. This is because one shouldn't follow the masses as if the masses can't be wrong. Surely they can be and most often they ARE wrong. But what's FALSE in your discussion is that you've left out the WHY. WHY do Filipinos believe so strongly in family and in having children? Isn't it true that this is because the good people of the Philippines are adhering the universal [which is the meaning of the Catholic] truth of the Church? So, why do you leave that out. It's not that you're going against what everyone tells you, it's that you're doing what the church has always said is sinful. Specifically, you're living with a man, and doing what men and women do together, without the benefit of the sacrament of matrimony. If you are not prepared to have children, could it be because the specific graces you would receive by virtue of the sacrament of marriage are now lacking to you? If you don't wish to have children, why do you engage in the act that creates children? This is the problem, and before it is a religious problem, it is also a problem of moral philosophy. Even the atheist Sigmund Freud is on record as having said that using any method of birth control is obviously depraved, but then, in his world virtually everyone knew this. If you separate the act of love in marriage from its procreative teleology, you do violence to your own soul and violate the rights of God. I urge you to think more deeply about this. Two ways you can do this is to look up Dr. Janet Smith (Phd Philosophy) on KZbin, and listen to what she says about birth control, and how some of its fruits are child abuse, people using each other as sexual objects, divorce, promiscuity, STDs, and the list goes on. You may reject her arguments if you disagree with them, but you really do owe it to yourself IF YOU GENUINELY WANT TO KNOW what's true, rather than just settle for what suits you and is convenient. The other thing you can do to help you think through this issue is to read Humanae Vitae, which is an encyclical promulgated by Pope Paul VI or contraception. It's VERY readable and quite a lovely document. You may wish to remain outside of the Catholic Church. Perhaps you have never been baptized into it. I don't know. Humanae Vitae is available for free on line. It's not terribly long. The worst thing that will happen to you by reading it, is that you will enrich the conversation you're having with yourself over the issues of co-habitating without the benefit of the sacrament of marriage, and why the Church teaches as she does on the issue of contraception. Assuming you believe in the power of reason, education can only enrich your life. So I do urge you to read that document. The questions I think you may ask yourself are: "Is my own approach to sex and contraception a function of the spirit of the age and utilitarian, or is it based in TRUTH. Is it also based in fear? Jesus says, "the TRUTH will set you free." Free also from fear. And also, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life." Finally, Jesus says, "Be not afraid!" May God Bless and keep you, Fletchie! -Mike
