Here is my explanation why secular artists DO NOT belong in your playlist as a believer.
Music belongs to God and it's original design was in the form of worship. God allows music outside of strictly worship however, it must still be profitable to our spirits.
This was one of my greatest challenges in coming to Christ. I felt like I was losing or being controlled by giving up secular music. But this has now become one of the most freeing decisions I have ever made.
LET'S SUPPORT CHRISTIAN ARTISTS! There are so many talented ones out there. Here are links to some of my playlists. Btw if you use Apple Music you're weird :)

When I accepted Christ, I was scrolling through my library (apple music) and I was just like.. "Dang." So, through God's strength, I cleared my whole library and dedicated myself to getting Christian songs that I actually liked (not just Praise and Worship Gospel) and I found some of my favorite ever songs! It took a couple of months of pure Christian music before I trusted myself with adding some secular songs (mostly j-pop and k-pop) and even then I made sure I knew what the songs were talking about so I wouldn't be consuming or humming along to inappropriate lyrics (even in another language). Now, like 2 years later, I've got a 90:10 Gospel to Secular song ratio in my library. It takes a LOT of effort, a LOT of willpower and it's 98% God working with you, but once you've done it, you'll be better than ever.

I agree with you man. I think the quickest fix for my dirty Spotify was making it so that it couldn't play Explicit songs. I found it somewhere in the Settings. Also helped that I found Sondae and RIDERS at that same time. Found myself thinking about God more because I'd be singing their lyrics. Funny enough, I started listening to rap when I was a kid because of Lecrae and Trip Lee, and then got SUPER into all of hip hop after that. Kendrick, Isaiah Rashad, and Playboi Carti were my favorites for like 10 years. Now I'm back to music that makes me think of God, and reminds me to be a better man of God.

yes i agree, i did the same thing!! for anyone looking to do this on spotify go to settings > content preferences > and then click turn off! and it won’t play any explicit music :) if you’re looking to do this on apple music, i believe this is something you do in settings > parental controls> and then turn on content restrictions!

Its true. When i find myself listening to secular music, my heart beats faster, my thoughts go on a spiral and im all over the place. Its a different feeling when listening to gospel, or calm lofi whereby i feel more like myself. Music genuinely is a tool of influence. Be careful what you allow into your ears cause it can either be holy or not.

Loved this video. I used to listen to Kendrick Lamar and Future everyday and when I rededicated my life to Christ I thought I’m never going to be able to give up my rap music. Last November I started out with a 30 day challenge gospel music only and when the challenge was up my spirit said DELETE IT & I simply did and haven’t listened to it sent, it may be tough my fellow brothers and sisters but it can be done, always give yourself grace but ask God for deliverance and you shall receive it. Before I came to personally know Christ, I had gone through seasons of not wanting to listen to anything. Not my playlist. Not the radio. Nothing. Then when I officially accepted Christ into my heart and was baptised by the Holy spirit, I deleted everything on my Spotify (was a little hard going through them and yeeting them out of my mind, but God's presence is stronger than any secular thing in these worldly desires). Even some worship/praise/gospel music is questionable but I'm working on discerning and giving it all to the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit 🙏

This is a great topic. As a musician, a percussionist, music is and was one of the enemies ways to get ahold of people. There is a lot of evil in instrumentals and lyrics. As Paul said, if u listen to something and the title and lyrics and music makes u want to go to a dark space, wanting to be lustful, stop listening to it. My favorite thing is researching the artist and their background plays a part as well.

@@flyersfan28-2 How is not like us demonic, he uses that song to create a stronger bond in black communities. The “beef” which drake initially started, was Kendrick humbling himself, stating his flaws, and attacking his opponent with clever word play and research. This doesn’t make Kendrick Lamar not a God like artist to listen to. With your logic people that that beef in basketball or a sport are demonic since they target an opponent and try to win over them. This beef showed Kendrick’s competitive mentality, his lyrical capabilities and his work ethic. Kendrick Lamar is truly and artist to listen to if you want to better yourself, change yourself, and change your community and the world.

you know what, this used to be me, so restrictive with what I consume according to my faith but now i don't care, i just listen to whatever music that i like and love. just do the things you enjoy because why limit and live life being so restrictive and demonizing most from this world. LIFE IS VERY SHORT!! in my opinion, you glorify God most by living your life to the fullest and enjoying life that was given to you. minimize pain, maximize pleasure, and do the most good 🤍

Beware of all music... including gospel and Christian rap as well. Even gospel music can be misleading by promoting self righteousness making us feel good vs promoting the righteousness of Jesus. Example. The new smoky norful song....if I would have heard that randomly without knowing who it was I would have thought it was an r&b song about a man talking to his woman.

This! I side eye songs that can double as a love song to a partner and be considered a worship or gospel song. It creeps me out. Especially if they don’t say Jesus or mention scripture.

It’s not a really a music thing more than it is a heart thing forsure , all the rapper she names aren’t as big now, u don’t even see their music marketed like that. The world moves on quick from ppl, a rappers career span is 3 yrs avg. or lower. You see who h are marketed too, then h realize there’s hundreds of Christian artists

Why would I listen the unoriginal boring version of an artist just because they don’t curse and say a little bit of Christian stuff. Most christian music (not all of it.) is just basic and doesn’t push any boundaries.

Hey I used to listen to Kendrick a lot. Maybe this verse will help ““Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21. A lot of artists mention Jesus and God but it doesn’t mean they’re being led in the right path. We have to test their spirit and check their fruits. Kendrick has a lot of worldly, ungodly lyrics. One example I can think of is how lustful some lyrics can be. I still like Kendrick and think he’s very artistic, but be careful and listen to your convictions that come from the Holy Spirit. Hope this helps 💖
