when i first decided to to stop listening to secular music in 2019, i was worried i would have a really short playlist . Boy was i wrong . i started with jonathan McReynolds and by time i realised i have a gospel song for every mood . start somewhere and God will help you find songs that brings you closer to him .

Seriously tho, who has time to constantly focus/examine on all the artist's lifestyle they live outside the music industry that we listen too??, I understand it's normal for us to learn more about the artist that we enjoy, but you think just because their lifestyle is different from mine that it's going to effect my faith to God? No, I wouldn't allow it too. Do we need to follow all of their social media's and watch all of their interviews, etc. to make sure that their personality/behavior life choices aligns with the music they're promoting??? and again who has time for that? Should we separate the art from the artist??? Why just towards music, why not also view people behind movies, books, tv shows, friends we know, etc.??? Why not also view christian artists lifestyle outside of music, see if you know them by their fruits? Were (including me) are so focused on other people's lifestyles and not our own; way too extreme.

This question is very consequential. The power of music is such that it has direct link to the brain and therefore it has assess to your thinking pattern. This means it has the potential to reorganize your thinking and influence your decision gradually. And the worse part is that music has a direct link to your heart/spirit. So any word used in lyrics has a straight course to your spirit. And most of these music are initiated before they are released so demons come upon the music deal to influence people. You need to know that, the eyes and ears are the window and door into our mind and heart. The bible says we should guide our heart. So don't listen to any kind of music, words are powerful. Jesus said" John.6.63 - It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." The devils also speak words that are spirit but gives death. The bible also admonish us not to speak idle words, for such He will judge, there are songs which may seems right to you but are backed by demonic spirit. Any song which is not inspired by the Holy spirit, you must be on guard to it, some may be motivational but you have to draw your line to where you get your motivations from, Your hope is only in the Word of God( Jesus). Col.3.16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Harp of David, made distressing spirit to flee from Saul.(1Sam.16:23) That's why you need to rejoice with songs inspired by the Holy spirit. If a music can exorcise, it can also possess you with demons. Don't be negligence and fall to secular music. Let the joy of the Lord be our strength. Finally I leave you with this scripture. Phil.4.8 - Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. If I'm honest, the worst take I have seen in this conversation is people saying that music only pushes you closer or further from God. That is so black and white, and simply cannot be true. What about instrumental music? What about Jazz? What about marriage night poundtown music? Am I supposed to listen to God of angel armies when my wife and I are trying to connect? I think there is a difference between secular music and UNGODLY music; the former may not necessarily be explicitly christian but its lyrics may promote christian values or a christian worldview e.g. Infinity Song are a music band who make secular music but they are Christians and you can see it in their lyrics. The latter however is explicity ANTI-CHRISTIAN and promotes hedonistic and carnal values e.g. WAP by Cardi B and Megan the Stallion etc.

If what your saying is true then Christians should not sing songs like “happy birthday” or “twinkle, twinkle little star” right? Those songs don’t glorify God explicitly so we should stop singing them? Tori Kelly’s song “Hollow” is one of the most Christian popular songs you will ever listen to yet she doesn’t mention the name ‘Jesus’ or ‘God’ even once (read the lyrics and you will see). If we apply this same logic the book of Esther should not be in the biblical canon because God is not mentioned once throughout the book! Do you see the problem with your line of thinking?

listening to the music or the profanity is not necessarily the sin. The sin comes when what you consume begins to influence your thoughts, your words, or your actions. THAT is what defiles you, There is no sin, necessarily, in what you “consume;” the sin is whatever might come of it. .Ok see for me being a Christian a lots of people judge me for the music I listen too I know the lyrics aren't good but I really don't see anything wrong with it , I have prayed to god about a couple of time it and since then I still feel ok I go by personal guidelines that works for me now since then their has been some songs that I now don't feel comfortable with and have gotten rid of . Music doesn't cause me to sin and I've noticed that, for me music is a part of what I identify with and I have always loved it. We don't need to hide from everything but we need to be careful on what we are putting into our minds Everyone's spiritual conscience is different not everyone is the same so what is OK for me might not be OK for you and that's ok. Maybe later on my opinion on this will change, Maybe this is something God isn't working on me yet maybe I'm ok right now and there might come a time to where I have crossed Boundaries and he'll be like whoa OK we need the rel it in a bit , idk but I am now going to not worry about what Other people have to say and trust my walk with god

@@SuperSillystar1256 to help a bit, the source of the music is the root of the problem. You said that listening to the profanity isn’t the problem, it’s what we do in response to that music. But I don’t think you know that it is the music that influences our response to the music. Yes, it is the profanity that is an issue because the profanity itself is coming from a bad “source”. What is the “source” of the music that you listen to? Is it a “source” that honors and glorifies God? Or is it a “source” that doesn’t honor and glorify God? When I mean source, I’m not speaking about the person who wrote the song because it’s much more deeper than that. Its the spirit that is behind the song, it is the spirit that had inspired that music. We are not just influenced by the way the music sounds, we are not just influenced by how the music is upbeat, we are influenced by the source of spirit that has inspired that music. Please take a look at 1 Samuel 16: 14-23 and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you the meaning of this passage. The music that David played had enough power alone to chase away the distressing spirit that was upon Saul - notice how it wasn’t just the way it sounded, it was the “source” of music. The “source” of the music that David was playing was of the Spirit of God. I wasn’t able to handle this revelation when I used to listen to secular music, but it was the truth that set me free. My flesh still wanted to lean onto secular music because it was what my flesh liked, but after receiving the truth, it was a constant battle between my spirit and flesh. My flesh wanted to listen to all the secular music I used to love listening to, but I felt my spirit tugging war at my heart to not listen to that music. Because when you listen to music outside of the Spirit of God, outside of it glorifying God, it will have a “negative” or a “bad” influence on you. Music is deeper than what we can think or imagine. God created it for His glory, and it is to an extent that we will never be able to grasp as humans. But it is best to know the truth and for that to set you free. When it comes to you feeling angry, you need to sit down with God and reflect on the things that have an influence on your anger. Could it be the type of music that you’re listening to? Could it be other factors in your life that influence that? Music has such a powerful influence on our emotions. Please make sure that you’re not listening to music that doesn’t glorify God, because not only does it not glorify God, it is not planting the right seeds into you. Music has such a great influence. We don’t think about the words we are saying and are religiously saying them without hesitation. Everything in your life is a pure reflection of who you are. People tend to listen or watch, eat things to their own standards and liking without consciously thinking. I, myself, have been a musician throughout my entire life, and I even I can recall how memories designated to songs because of a feeling. Music is emoting, people write write songs to recreate a moment, a feeling, even to the point we know what key does what to create those modes of feeling. Recording engineers even know the frequencies that are binaural to happiness, sad, and even anger. None of these techniques are new, I don’t want to sound too crazy but even Hitler knew the power of sound (words). Mind you in the Bible Lucifer’s gift was music, so it’s only natural when you look at the source and root of music, you come to find that influence plays a big role in media, music, and films. So you have to ask yourself would God approve of this? I saw in your testimony you may not struggle with it and it’s your opinion, but what is God’s opinion about it? What does he say about the tongue? These very same sentiments I struggled with. being a musician I listen to a lot of instrumental than mainstream music but when growing up I listened to a lot of secular but my mom always bought the clean version and even still I knew what the bad words were without having to “hear” them and this shows the power of words and their influence. All in all you can’t serve two masters. That’s why stories like the young rich ruler, are great examples of what we should be giving up to follow Christ. I pray for you brother and hope you find peace.

I told someone that since things are that deep now, I truly respect it but that means that we need to pull away for all social media, no more television, etc.. I'm sure we are doing something sinful and if any man says that he is without sin then he is a lier.. not using this for an excuse but do we all watch one station on TV? Do we all only watch HOLY movies? Do we all not see things on KZbin and watch it? I really apprecate your video. Your explanattion was on point. The Holy Spirit spoke to me about 1.5 years ago and said to stop listening to ALL secular music. Sometimes it's hard and I wasnt to put on some dance music or Beyonce, Rhianna, etc. but I read the lyrics of their songs and they are really bad. Thank you for your encouragment. God Bless You!

Here’s my vision. My housemate loves secular music especially Afro beats or music with women vulgar dancing. So, I was asleep when I found myself stand in my friends bedroom. He was laying on his bed, scrolling through his phone but there was music playing on the TV, it was afrobeat. Lo and behold I suddenly saw like someone vomiting 🤮 see how the vomit domes out? It was with such force that I saw demons of all kinds, and pouring into my friend who was innocently just laying there browsing the internet. He had no idea he was being possessed by uncountable demons. I remember this like it was yesterday. Stay away from worldly music. We have Godly music in the genres you might like, look for those.

I personally don’t feel any shame listening to secular music. I might be different than most, because i focus on the rhytm, melody and beat from secular music. Secular M can also be more authentic in my opinion. Music that is honest and raw is the best. It might be damaging to listen to secular music about girls, money and fame when u are younger and are easier influenced of your surroundings.

We aren’t called to be worldly as Christians. Regardless of how good the best sounds, you should cancel it out completely if the lyrics are worldly; sexual, violent, vain and anything else that you know is against God.

The sole purpose of this life is to love God and love your neighbor as yourself. True, if we love God and love our neighbors as ourselves we will obey His commandments. Jesus paid for all the sins of all the world at the cross (past, present,and future). That payment is put to your account when you have believed on Christ alone for salvation. When you have believed on Christ alone for salvation then you have repented unto life!!! Salvation is absolutely free recieved solely by trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone, and is certainly not conditional upon service to God. Service ( discipleship) if you choose it can cost you everything if you go all out in serving God. Our good works, repenting of sins, and obedience, are solely for rewards in Heaven or a lack thereof and have absolutely nothing to do with salvation at all. The only reason anyone will ever be in Heaven is solely by the perfect life, shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection, of Jesus Christ alone. Anything added or subtracted from this is another gospel. Salvation is free, instant, and eternal. Rewards are worked for! By all means go ahead and listen to Christian music rather than worldly music.

I have theory that we hold a lot of pain, trauma and stress inside us that working out with it would help more. I listen music when I feel particular emotion. Not that it makes me feel. I have spend thousands for healing my pain, going to the roots. I feel in my heart joy and any music can change it. Music it is just a reflection of what is inside us and we are numb to understand it. Like disrupting mold in the lake. Go deep because we do not reflect as deep as just going to church and having community

Thank you for sharing! I like those questions that you gave us, when it comes to deciding what kind of music we should listen to. Like you said just because you can, it doesn't mean you should! I also want to add that listening to secular music is not a sin, I'd hate for believers to think that listening to Beyonce/ Ed Sheeran song 'perfect' for example, would mean they are sinning and all that. There are so many secular songs out there that are good and innocent, don't glorify God, but hey, they exist. I think as believers we have to use wisdom about certain secular songs that we listen to and it should always be our goal to glorify God in all that we do like the bible says. Obviously, if you are listening to dark music or music that is vulgar, or music that causes you to idolize certain things, then you are not helping yourself, but grieving the spirit, and opening doors to a lot of ungodly things, which can bring you away from Christ, and eventually lead you back into living a sinful lifestyle. And as you grow close to Christ, all you wanna do is listen to Christian music, but the holy spirit will help you develop that taste. Sorry for the paragraph, but I'm just echoing what you are saying & clarifying bc there's a lot of 'religious' folk ouchea who like to condemn other Christians about listening to any type of secular songs (good ones).

I would say for Turkish dramas, since they are fictional, it would be wise to not watch anything that promotes sin or anti-biblical ideas (like sexual immorality, vulgarity, strife, jealousy, violence, fear, gloom, pride, drunkenness, etc). It’s okay if they bring up these topics, just make sure they aren’t promoting it as good, it should be shown in the right light. It’s okay to watch videos about the lives of celebrities, just make sure that you aren’t idolizing these celebrities. Make sure you aren’t putting them above Jesus or following their lifestyle if it contradicts God’s word. If whatever videos you are watching about celebrity lifestyles is more focused on drama, gossip, and other ungodliness, it’s best to stop watching because it can influence you in the wrong way. Make sure whatever part of their lives you watch is teaching you valuable things that help you, rather than things that distract you from your purpose.

Just make sure the lyrics aren’t promoting sin or anti-biblical ideas (sexual immorality, lust, pride, idolatry, jealousy, strife, bitterness, gloom etc). Not all secular music is bad, only the ones that contradict God’s word are bad to listen to. Make sure the love songs don’t say things like “I’ll die without you”, “I’m lonely without you”, etc because it could be idolatry, you don’t necessarily need a partner to feel fulfilled, only Jesus do that and be perfect at it.

That is where the voodoo beat on Fleetwood Macs song Tusk came from. Would a voodoo beat hurt a Christian? Would it open a doorway for demons? I really wish it wouldn't but I am not sure. I am here because I carry heavy burdens. I feel like committing suicide but I won't. I just think I'd like to be gone and go nonexistent. I never wanted to be here and come in this world being me l, this for a reality. I was forced to exist and forced into life but also forced into being me something I hate and never wanted. I've carried this pain for such a long long time now. Ever since I was a kid well up into adulthood. I thought I'd somehow changed and I'll grow out of it but I never did. I am an ugly woman. I really am and no this isn't me being negative its the truth. Nobody has ever liked me before and look I'm am adult its been for long like nobody has because I am ugly for a girl. Every Christian tells me look to God for your worth and see you worth and see beauty that he sees in you through his eyes but that's so hard to do when you realize to yourself you are working so hard to gaze upon Jesus eyes and look to him for your worth and see yourself beautiful in his eyes whereas you yourself think you're ugly and majority of the people do and the hardest part and why I say I dont want to look to Jesus or God for it is because the truth is God thinks all his other children and daughters are worth dying for too and he loves them and thinks his daughters are beautiful but not just him thinking they are beautiful because in reality they really are beautiful because he actually not just think they are beautiful he even made that a reality for when he made them so he thinks they are beautiful and they really are though but when it came with me that was never to be my reality because though he thinks I am worthy and beautiful he didn't make that a reality for me so its a contradiction and I could never see my worth in his eyes I'm an adult now and no one had ever liked me not even the nice guys. But it hit me so hard to know that the person I genuinely liked my friend didn't like me he was someone who loves Jesus and is kind but he likes a girl who is pretty and positive and super nice . He only told me I was beautiful because he didn't ever want to hurt my feelings and make me feel bad about my self even though it's not true at all he was just being considerate of my feelings but here it hurts. Because that's my reality The rhing is I think God's messing with us he tells us he makes everyone all equally beautiful when that's not really the case. Some he made so andnothers live with whatever they get handed on as fate would have had it. Well even if one is ugly God being God would still say they are beautiful just because he is really kind even though they are not and I know he meant beauty not in terms of the fact someone is beautiful but just because they are made in his image just because they are living being is I know what he means by all being beautiful though one being flat out ugly. I never wanted to be me first of all I am as ugly as can get and I'm also a very slow learner I am dumb and process things really slow so I am the target of ridiculement. I never wanted to exist and I never pictured that when I did this is how I would turn out that out of all the things I could ever be this became me. I know its the heart that counts the inner beauty of a person but reality is even if I go to heaven I'd still be me there too forever I'd still be the person I am which naturally very ugly in heaven for all eternity forever. But my question has always been why has he made some of his children very beautiful and me just this it's so hurtful and a slap in the face. I'm not conceited for a person but it's hard when he made many who are beautiful and do have kind loving hearts and me I have to bear with what is that im ugly but he thinks I'm beautiful for the simple fact I bear his image. It's hurtful when you love someone who doesn't love you back because he loves someone who is beautiful and kind and nobody has ever liked you before and evergones underappreciate you and no where near your heart can you find it to love you. I think God, I'm sorry to say this is sooo messed up to think its okay to force me to exist and be here and turn out the way that I am because I'd never imagine I'd become this person but I did. I never wanted to be me but what does he do? Force me into existence and force me to be me and this is the case that I'll have to deal with forever. But when I want to take my own life upon my hands I can't? So people get forced to exist when they don't even want to let alone be themselves and look and be the way they are but all this is out of their control and they want to end their lives and stop existing because they have a right to be non-existent since they get forced into life, forced to turn out the way they do and be themselves and force upon alot of things beyond their control but who gets to be them God or them? Them. Who gets to carry out and live their life God or them ? Them so why doesn't God thibk its okay to make someone who doesn't want to exist and be themselves go ahead and take it upon their hands to end it and go nonexistent when all this is force upon them and so is looking the way they do, their race, who they are, everything about them and coming into existence is all forced and shoved for them to carry out so very well they should and I should have a right to end and go nonexistent with a me I never wanted and a life I never even asked for because nobody deserves to be tortured for life being something they never wanted to be and carry it out forever when it's not their fault they just got handed the wrong fate of things. How does god even ever thinks it's okay to decide ill make some people in this world really beautiful and attractive whereas others are just average and not anything beautiful to look at. Like I understand its our character that counts but reality is it's hurtful why God is like this because this is tied into a person's identity and makeup as a whole human being as well as their race this things go hand in hand as the overall design of a human and it's sad when people get forced and handed the worse and of things whereas others get handed it well, I mean if God so loves everyone that treat it like he does make sure everyone is created all equally beautiful and made with care because that's not how it is so we all have to deal with how we are for all eternity. For whatever reason God thinks it's okay to make beautiful people who can have beautiful hearts and some of us such as myself ugly and mediocre never could understand. Realize that beautiful attarctive people can be with Jesus and in heaven still beautiful as themselves and someone like me can go to heaven and still forever be this ugly Filipino person I am. I know it’s easier said than done since I can’t exactly know how you feel just based on your description and I’m not in your shoes. You seem to be putting all the blame to God saying “ why did you make me look this way? Why didn’t you make everyone look equally beautiful” . That’s something that we humans sometimes do when things don’t go right in our lives at least once “ why, God?”. Please don’t feel like you were “ forced” into this life ... the gift of life is a wonderful gift. We all get born into different situations and it’s sometimes hard to appreciate life sometimes. We sometimes find ourselves stressed for a long period of time, depressed for years and etc and wonder why must we go on. Please don’t feel like life was “ forced” on you but it was a gift to you. Your mother brought you into this world. I’m sure there are people that care about you, it might not feel like enough of a reason now but think about them and I’m sure they will be sad if you ever move forward with those thoughts ... trust me. The beauty in everything is that we are all different. If we all looked the same we would almost look like mindless creatures but the fact that we were made all different is a beauty in itself. Tall, short, small/medium/large forehead, freckles/no freckles, small lips big lips, etc. I understand from the beginning of your post that you carry heavy burdens. I know sometimes just telling yourself that you were Made in God’s image and God finds all his creation beautiful sometimes doesn’t feel like it’s enough when your physical situation is constantly making you feel like other wise. You have to find someway to appreciate yourself more. It may take time because you’ve deeply engraved the idea that you will never be “ beautiful”. Girl stop trying to see yourself through the way some people are treating you. You may have just come across the wrong people, or you may just not have found “ your person”. Some people YOU find beautiful may not be “beautiful” to the next person. Beauty is subjective when seen through humans eyes honestly. That’s why at the end of the day you hve to find a way to love YOU first because you are your #1 bestfriend. That love that you could potentially find for yourself will fuel how you carry yourself and how you act and the one for you will make his way eventually. It all starts with you. Please stop with the ultimate view that you are ugly. How do you expect people to find you beautiful when YOU are already categorizing yourself? Why is it that the Christians that advocate not listening to secular music usually have a past listening to gangster rap heavy metal punk etc. There are actually some very beautiful tunes that celibrate all aspects of life. If you can give God thanks for this music and have gratitute great. I believe this is born from a religous spirit. It might be your at a place where you would prefer worship music over secular.

There are so many videos from "teachers" on this same subject. Anything from all secular entertainment is bad, to use your own discernment, to it's all good. How do *most* people decide who's right? Christianity in the age of social media. Christians - I'm going to go online and find some random person that I know nothing about to tell me what to believe and how to live my life. Other Christians - Great idea! I did the same thing! Except, I chose a different person because yours doesn't tell me what I want to hear. Meanwhile - God - That's not how any of this is supposed to work 🤦♂️

I feel the same way I would just steer clear of it to be safe... because those love songs aren't necessarily directed to God they are about other human beings...I just got this revelation I like jazz , classical and gospel try those!

To the artist, it may be a figure of speech but ultimately, if them saying that is causing you recite things over your life that are against what you actually believe, then I would say go with your convictions. "You're my all", in a sense, contradicts Jesus' command to love God first and then secondly, your neighbor (spouse, family, strangers). The way you love God will look significantly different from the way you love your neighbor. Technically, your spouse can't be your "all" because God is supposed to already own that spot as your number one and rightly so, because he's perfect. Your partner could make a mistake or lead you astray or hurt you but God won't. Therefore, saying they are "all" is like saying you trust and hope in them as much as you do God. Which we're not supposed to. You wouldn't even know how to love them properly if they took the place of God in your life because loving them well requires submitting your all to God first. "You make me complete", it depends on what they intended that to mean. If it's another synonym for "you're my all", meaning I won't feel whole or don't know my purpose without you, then that wouldn't be biblical. But then again, it could also be a way of saying "we are one", like how the Bible says a man joins with his wife and they become one. Just read between the lines of each lyric in the song and it should tell you which one they mean.

It is the inside that defiles the person, so the inquiry should be into the inside - the intention behind that song which informs everything ie the lyrics out of it. As a general principle tho, most secular love songs are drunk on fleshly passions that idolises the other person. Note Song of Solomon - the greatest love song, with intimate details of the body part and sexual passion and ecstasy in Christ. There is admiration for each other as created beings of God and a beautiful imagery of the oneness and completeness of the man and woman coming together to form the picture perfect garden of Eden with its flowery and natural language in the text. Think phil 4:8: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. This is your test. Run each song through the rest of each verse ie are these phrases true, noble, right, pure, against God’s word? To say ‘you’re my all’ to someone almost always invariably puts that person as the object of worship, but can also be a figure of speech of endearment from a Christian mum to her daughter. However, it matters whose mouth these words come out of it. So in general - look to artist themselves as context for ambiguous phrases :) My personal advice is to not even listen to unchristian love songs if unsure, or better, make it something you don’t even reach out for or desire anymore. My experience has been that the more in love with you are with God, the less attractive and fluttery these love songs that don’t sing of him are. Though the word God need not always have to be explicitly mentioned, it will always be clear whether a song is God-glorifying or not. The light and darkness are clearly separated, and they don’t mix. There is no neutrals or grey zones in this matter generally :) That clarity - like attaining HD vision can only be attained by wearing the right glasses or having your vision fixed. In that sense, you must spend time and by having a deeply intimate relationship with Him, these distinctions become clearer and easier for your own personal application in life. It takes one to recognise one - Christian love songs will always be clear (in its creative and artistic ways) about it being addressed to the one and only God we have Finally, consider your own heart. Why are you listening to these songs? The inside defiles the outside. If you’re unsure of a certain unchristian song in its message as is secular but not ungodly, don’t forget always a heart check and why you’re checking out that song in the first place? Test the root of your intentions against His words, and like food, modesty, and unmentioned things in the Torah and Scriotures, will ultimately be a matter of applying wisdom and personal discretion and your scruples of conscience between you and God. The heart of the matter is: invite God into all your decisions, spend time with Him and He will purify and beautify your desires and tastes from the most simple mundane to the most important decisions in life. This could be one of them ❤

And more often than not, the lyrics of secular love songs are blasphemous. Grace find us. Indeed music is the only thing I know that was not created on this earth. It is meant for praises and worship. Christ is our Great God and Saviour.

I’m a metal head and when I became a Christian I only listened to Christian metal but I listened to this one band called dark funeral and I tried to stop listening to them after I became a Christian but they just released a new album called “we are the apocalypse” and I really wanna listen to it what should I do?
