Wow what a talent. How can you ever get sick of this? Funny thing is I like him more now than I did in the 70s and 80s. He surrounds himself with the BEST talent. Sure miss T-Bone. And lastly I've got to say Daryl Hall is awfully easy on the eyes..

You made me laugh with, "How can you ever get sick of this?" NEVER! I am discovering so much of Dayrl's non H & O music. It's pretty spectacular. It's a shame that he always has to play their hits in concert. I would love to see him do a solo tour. It's hard financially, but the guy is loaded, so why not "do it for love"?

this is Pat Washington. I Love Marvin as one of the all time greats. His ballads OMG.. However on THIS song Darryl blew it out the water. My husband G. agrees. Give credit where it is due. This rendition is faster and beautifully composed and sung. God bless the blue eyed soul brothers who helped cross the barriers, (Average White Band, Michael McDonald, Michael Franks, Chicago),. Good Music is for anybody to appreciate and is all written by God. Every great song writer knows that is all comes from above -as well as the ability to really sing with or without instruments. Love to Marvin, Luther,Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, Donny Hathaway, the Whispers, Isaac Hayes, Barry White, Phyllis Hyman, Stevie Wonder, Eddie Lavert, Look them up if you don't know-ask somebody. Love Daryl with Todd Rudgren . Peace..

Cowritten with Marvin Gaye
@diamonddavemc4 жыл бұрын
@@martibutcher4373 That's not the full story. The song '"When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You" was entirely written and produced by Marvin Gaye. However, it notably has no standard stucture. Daryl Hall reworked it along with his longterm girlfriend Sara Allen to what you hear above. On this version Marvin Gaye is credited because it's based on his original song, however it can't truly be called a songwriting collaboration in the same way Ice Ice Baby can't be called a collaboration between Vanilla Ice, Queen and David Bowie. Having said that, in my opinion this reworking by Daryl Hall is better than the original source song.

Just because you love this version doesn't mean you're spitting on Marvin's grave. Daryl's version preserves all the integrity of the original, and pays its due respects to the source. I have never felt that Daryl thinks his version is "better," but just a different interpretation, tempo and instrumentation. And that's OK by me.

I’m always drawn toward returning to what I like listening to. Anything Daryl Hall, H&O, and other projects are great. Different, yet still great. My personal chance to see and experience them was in 78’ or 79’ at a county fair. I think Daryls voice is warmer the older he’s gotten, but it’s gotten him through the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 2000-2023 and still playing. Greatness in music accomplishment personified! Love you H & O !!!

'When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You?' is the theme from Marvin Gaye's 1978 tragedy 'Here My Dear'- most known for the proceeds being the divorce settlement from his first wife Anna. 'Here My Dear' is the lowest selling and only album by Gaye not to chart a single hit. Daryl Hall, the lyrical genius that he is, rewrote the entire lyric ; while retaining the melody. As someone who has admired both artists, I must admit that everything about Hall's version is better, which makes sense since Gaye wasn't writing a hit, but declaring his sorrow, anger, and loss. Hall simply asks the questions. Interestingly, this song appears on Hall's 1993 masterpiece 'Soul Alone' which is the most underappreciated album in the Hall &Oates discography, and, in my opinion, it's the best overall, song-for-song, album; only 'Private Eyes' is even close. Interestingly, you will struggle to find fans of both artists that have both of these albums. At any event, Hall's version of this song is a masterpiece, and a perfect tribute to Marvin Gaye; R.I.P. (1939-1984)
@TheDeastman134 жыл бұрын
spot on till 'best album'...funny that that's one of my least favorite...although it's kinda hard to pick between the 3 that come readily to mind, since the styles are different...could, easily, be 3 different bands...what am i THINKing?!?! it IS 3 different bands... ; - ) first up(but not 'best'...when achieving a certain level of quality...let's say, for most minds, the '90 percentile', the rest is subjective and, usually, foolish to compare...not to say that your comparison of the two versions was an example. remakes, of course, inVITE comparison...) would be the sara smile album...then...along the red ledge...and then... big bam boom...ALSO 'homogenously', high quality work... but yeah...just my opinion...

Michael Miller "this blue eyed brother"is a racist statement."is black as he can be"is a racist statement. Try listening to the interview between Daryl and Patrick Stump to find out how Daryl feels about being called "blue eyed soul"and being called black. Racist=bigot
