Andy, another great video, with plenty of quality drone shots, showing off the beauty of Cardrona. You picked a good day to get the footage, no rain, which is a huge bonus. What I find is the biggest hurdle for most golfers, struggling to break 90, is ego. They think they MUST take driver off the tee, because their playing partners are. But it's our score that matters, not our playing partners, its not their signature on your card. Great advice Andy, and something I have begun doing, more this last season than ever before, since entering senior golf status. Using common sense, assessing the lie, what my realistic capabilities are, which I find in many golfers, is where the EGO ruins their scores, on holes they could easily bogey at worst. I explain to them, look, you have a shot on this hole, to enable you the opportunity of getting the bogey net par. Turn longer par 4 into par 5's, take the pressure off, having a put for par, is better than losing a ball after taking on a shot with a low percentage of success. Break holes down into manageable chunks, plot your way around each hole, this just might make golf more enjoyable. Get rid of EGO and many golfers, just might begin scoring better.

Cardrona has been used by the Scottish Blind Golf team as their home course against the England and Wales Blind Golf annual event known as the Auld Enemy Cup. It is like a number of the courses shown in your wonderful "Off the Beaten Track" which the words "simply stunning" does not quite cut it. Great tips and good to see you back to your best as well. Andy e is a terrific photograph and possibly the best one in the series. Keep the video's coming Andy.

I think you have just described how I play golf. Always take enough club unless danger behind. Always hit what I’m comfy with second shot on a par 5 rather than what I can hit the furthest. Never try anything I can’t do. Funny how many 20 handicappers I play with who try and fade/draw the ball. Try flop shops around the green etc. think they can hit the ball further than they do. It’s funny and very baffling at times. Great video as always mate

I think this is a different course to Peebles golf course which is apparently a great course as well. Peebles is a great little town and not far from Melrose which is another great little borders town with plenty to see. Another wonderful video One additional nugget: especially with irons, play the club where you can reach your target with a smooth 80% swing, you are far more likely to make a good contact that if you are straining to hit it really hard

Be interested to know as I've heard negative things about only cutting a driver shaft down without doing anything else. Cheers Andy. ps What hc you playing to now.

Hi Andy, I'm pretty new to game. By that I mean it's my second attempt. About 25 years ago I took up golf casually. I played once a fortnight with friends. It was more about the pints afterwards than golf and I never had a HC. I couldn't put my left hand on top for proper grip(I'm a former hurler and it felt so wrong) so struggled with long clubs for years. I then switched to lefty to allow my right hand to stay on top but injured my back shortly after switch so quiet quit the game. I returned this summer after 18 years and I'm playing off left. To get around back issue I came across "the single plane swing". I've been trying it out but with limited success. I followed a KZbinr who coaches it. I've recently came across another swing technique on KZbin called" the easiest swing" it looks less taxing on the back. What's your independent opinion on these techniques? Any feedback would be welcome. Thks

@@TheAverageGolfer I am also interested in this. I have watched those videos as well. Haven't had success trying those swings. Older and bad back
@AlabamaGolfer
@AlabamaGolfer Күн бұрын
I’ll preface this by saying I’m not a good golfer and don’t know a whole lot about golf instruction other than what I’ve received in lessons or here on KZbin. I play with a lot of older guys during the week, and I’ve noticed off the tee, a few of them tee the ball up more toward their back foot, make very little body rotation, yet somehow manage to flip their hands through and get great flight with driver. One guy is 72 and plays off +2 from the senior tees and still hits the driver about 230-240 doing this. A lot of guys give him crap and say he needs to move back a tee box. I’ve always been taught to put the ball near the heel of your lead foot, get width on the turn, hit up on it, etc. This was baffling to me, but he says he does it like that because he has a bad back and has a hard time making the rotation. I don’t know if this is a common technique that’s taught or not, but it certainly works for some of these guys I play with.

If only we had the skill to make these decisions... The basis of much of the advice is that an average golfer varies between hitting the shot perfectly and hitting it slightly off, so that your initial decision is pertinent. The reality, though, is that most average golfers vary between a decent shot and a complete duff. For example, your first 'nugget' related to a choice from 170 yards. Most average golfers do not have the skill to choose which part of the green to hit: they just aim for the green in general. If you think differently then either you have little experience of average golfers, or you are deluded.

Have you found that you dramatically saved strokes changing your putter? People note this when using a LAB DF3, or some of the newer zero torque putters, they saw dramatic improvement. But in your experience did you ever experience this? To me this will make or break a 90 score as I have had many rounds where my GIR was over 50% but had multiple 3 putts.

Personally, I’m skeptical. Last year I bough a PLD Anser 2 and loved it during the honeymoon period. After only a few months, I found myself having difficulty controlling the face and started getting the yips on those 3-4 ft putts. Then I switched to a Phantom X12 after my fitting showed my arc was not as strong as it had been previously. Another honeymoon period ensued. Some days I’m taking as low as 25 putts in a round, or a day like today where I took 37 with a disastrous four-putt after reaching the green in two on a par 5 (I even chipped in on #7 for a zero putt, so 37 putts in 17 holes 😑). Like the guys I play with at the club say, usually it’s the Indian and not the arrow.
