When I was a teenager and took mandatory German classes in gymnasium I hated it but after 10 years german started to amaze me and I am constantly being amazed by how great the language structure is and how friendly and encouraging German people are (in terms of teaching you/encouraging you to learn). The thing with native English speakers is that they take it for granted that everybody in the universe is obliged to learn English, which is not true. And they usually don’t correct you kindly, instead rub your face in it. But all the German people I met were always so kind and enthusiastic about my effort for learning German. I hope to be proficient in German in a couple of years and type such texts in German too. Thanks to all kind and encouraging German people like Anja. We German learners love you.

A little addition to Fehler #2: If you are in Switzerland, just be aware that we usually say „Ich habe heiss“ or „Er hat kalt“ instead of „Mir ist heiss“ or „Ihm ist kalt“. So we use „haben“ instead of „sein“ (that‘s probably influenced by French where they use „avoir“ (to have) as well).

Yes, Dativ means through certain ways a thing is influenced by something else. Das Video macht mir Spaß is same as "The video makes fun (to me)" but is seems weird in English. I think there is no accurate corresponding grammar in English
@michaeljuliano8839
@michaeljuliano8839 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Steve In Old English, mē was the dative case of the first person singular pronoun. I like to separate grammar from usage. I consider “to me” to be the correct grammatical structure in Modern English to represent the concept of “mir” in “mir ist kalt,” but we simply don’t say it the way. The reason is that “to me it is cold” makes perfect sense, so no one would be confused about your meaning, but people would wonder why you said it that way unless you were trying distinguish your opinion of the weather from the opinions of the others in your group. Context and usage are in my opinion the most difficult parts of other languages to master.

In Russian it works in a similar way. You say "Mne zharko/holodno" (Мне жарко/холодно), where "Mne" (Мне) is the Dative of "Я" that stands for I.

she missed a thing at the last topic (seit) Edit: Colloquial language thing in northern germany. you can use „seit“ in a past form. if you say „Ich lerne deutsch seit ein paar Jahren“, it means that you have been learning german for a few years, AND you‘re still learning it. If you‘re using it in a past form „Ich habe deutsch seit ein paar Jahren gelernt“ it means that you have learned german for a few years, but aren’t learning it anymore. therefore „seit“ in present tense is past + still going. and „seit“ in a past form is past till a specific point of time. another example; „Ich habe dieses Handy seit einem Jahr“ „I have this phone for a year now“ „Ich hatte dieses Handy seit einem Jahr“ „I had this phone for a year (but dont have it anymore)“

I guess you caught it the wrong way. When you wanna use "seit" in the past, you use the word "für" instead of "seit". That means in a sentence like Ich habe Deutschstunden *für* ein Jahr belegt. You dont use "seit". It's like in english. The translation would be I took some german lessons *for* a year. So in the past, you use the same word "for"/"für".

"Da" actually means "DaMIT" in this example ("Da(mit) hast Du Recht") - with this, in this you're right.

It could also mean darüber, right? You're right about that!

Yeah u can use "da" as a ''damit" but u can also use "Da" as a "Weil". Example ,,Ich brauche keine hilfe, da/weil ich es gut kann" - English: ,,I don't need help, because i can do it good" I'm from germany and wrote my analysis sometimes with "da" as a "weil". Not because i have to, rather i think it's boring if i only wrote "weil" for a argument. Sry if u don't understand this text. I'm not the best😅 but i hope that this can helps u

"Seid und seit" as well as, and more importantly "Das und dass" is total blurr to a lot of Germans. Thus I really admire any foreigner who gets that right.
