I really like the darker blue lighthouse version. While I appreciate black & white, I miss the colors: the gorgeous golden grass, the blue sky. I was torn between the two, color versions, but the darker blue sky looked less washed out.

You got the moon too :) :) I have hundreds of photo's from Blåvandshuk to go through now I'm home... I'm sure I've made a few of these mistakes!! For me in the day, there was no clouds (which was good for the moon rise later!) so I'm going to try some b&w edits, cause I love yours. Not much fire in my sky as the sunset. It's going to really help going through my photo's to have this video on the other monitor to see where I went wrong and where I got it right. Lastly, yes to central compositions from me, 100%!

I’m envious of the minimalist possibilities in Denmark. I really like the shot with the moon centered above the lighthouse. In the second shot with the moon to the right, seems to me that the moon does not carry enough weight and ends up being a distraction.

In terms of the image of the Lighthouse and the moon, the black and white version was my favourite as the darker sky accentuated the moon better I think. If you had an interesting cloud formation behind the lighthouse, then colour would probably have worked better. Very enjoyable episode Mads with a beautiful collection of images and good compositional advice too

That first shot, with the moon right above the lighthouse is wonderful. Later, of the choice of three, my vote goes to the darker coloured version of the lighthouse. As for the images with bokeh with the figure who looked as if he was walking on water, they are stunning. Thanks for all the compositional advice as well. What a great video.

My vote is the BE&W on the lighthouse. I agree, many times central composition is better. On the other topic... I could never live in a cold place like there. I'm on the beach wearing only shorts and the water temp is perfect.

Mads, thank you so much for your helpful video! I actually think the texture of the beach there is interesting. Also, grassy dune _with patches of sand_ are gorgeous to me, especially rough winding paths through there is priceless. Your black & white effect is nice, and reminds me of stunning infrared photography. Cheers to you from a fellow Dane! 🇺🇸💛🇩🇰

Incredibly helpful tips as usual, Mads. The point about perceived direction is interesting, I know to apply it in people to make them look into the frame, but didn’t think about it for buildings. 😂 for the edits in 5:37, I preferred the colored dark one. The dark color contrast is just something and I think adds more mood to the image.

For me, the high contrast B&W stole the show. I think if color doesn’t play a central role in the image, get rid of it. Sometimes color gets in the way of what you want to say with the photograph. Another great video!

Some great teaching moments in this video Mads, not to mention showcasing another incredible location in your homeland. A hard time choosing a favorite lighthouse image among the three but I've settled on the darker color version. The contrasting color tones of the yellow grasses and blue sky just added something extra special. An epiphany for me about the Rule of Thirds. An important composition tool that we've all heard a million times but you stress the importance of then making sure the image is balanced...excellent point! Totally agree with your philosophy on centering subjects to. Thanks again Mads.

Thanks Mads for another great teaching video!!! My favorite was a toss up. I like the B&W and the darker images about the same. They seemed to do more for the moon silhouette then the brighter one!!! Stay safe!!!

Thanks Mads! The reminder not to ignore the central composition was especially useful. Sometimes I find I look for rule of thirds framing without necessarily having a strong motivation, just habit! Black and white light houses for me, though there’s a quality to all of them. Love the central one with the moon above the tower.

I initially liked the darker colour version, but was overly swayed by your suggestion that a bright foreground might draw too much attention from the main subject. After staring at the light and dark version a little longer, the darker version possessed an uncanniness I did not like. I settled on the brighter colour version, and felt the lighthouse was strong enough comfortably to hold centre stage, and the subtle colour graduation in the sky had a pleasing transition. The bright yellow of the grass was not at all overpowering, and it added to the dream like quality of the sky which also made the moon seem a lot more purposeful.

Thanks for this excellent video! I recently moved to a coastal location and have been doing some location scouting for landscapes. I do struggle with composing images, and using leading lines, and to create dynamic landscapes. Sometimes I can walk in a location and not really see anything worth shooting, where I know that there are landscapes there to be found. I am learning to “see” more and this is definitely my biggest struggle. I also do feel that telephoto lenses are much easier to find compositions than the ultra wide angles I have. I will keep at it and hopefully I can learn to see with my wide angle too!

Hey Mads! Thanks for the video! I think I like the darker colour one. I agree with you about the center framed photos. Nothing wrong with them. I mean you can still have elements in the left or right thirds and then something in the middle but it is fine even without them! Keep shooting!

Again - a nice video - with a lot of photographical tips/advice. If you include the focal length and the exposure time of your photos, as you once did. Our take a way "benefit" of your leaning would increase even more. We of cause know the focal length is between 28 and 200mm 🙂 Thanks Mads
